In Austin’s professional experience, the most infuriating thing about optical glass in an industrial setting wasn't thermal expansion, refraction index drift, or solar radiation darkening; it was fingerprints.

"Commander Xue Long," Austin’s voice crackled across the construction void-channel, dry, raspy, and entirely devoid of divine grace. "Did you touch the front face of Mirror Unit 4,112 with your bare leather gauntlets?"

Out on the zero-gravity assembly truss of Dreadnought Foundry 04, former Vanguard Commander Xue Long froze in mid-stride.

The four-eyed terror of the Star-Devouring Citadel was currently floating thirty yards above an immense, five-hundred-meter parabolic dish of silvered quartz glass. He was wearing an oversized high-visibility lime-green vest over his spiked void-armor, a yellow plastic hard hat tied to his curved horns with stainless-steel baling wire, and a heavy tool harness carrying two cordless impact wrenches, a pneumatic grease gun, and a cardboard box of lint-free microfiber shop rags.

Beside him, two hundred of his former dreadnought officers—similarly attired in lime vests and yellow hard hats—were meticulously checking the alignment pins on the mirror’s three-axis motorized gimbal mount.

"I... I was merely steadying the gimbal arm as we torqued the azimuth trunnion bolts to twelve hundred foot-pounds, Lord Architect!" Xue Long pleaded into his radio, his four yellow eyes blinking rapidly in sheer terror.

"You left an oily thumbprint right on the focal sweet spot," Austin said, his voice coming from a thousand miles away on the central transit platform of the Geosynchronous Ring, where he was peering through his theodolite's high-magnification telephoto lens. "At five hundred exawatts of concentrated solar flux, that smudge of organic grease will absorb thermal radiation, heat up to four thousand degrees in six-tenths of a second, and cause localized thermal shock fracture across forty square yards of polished quartz. Do you know how long it takes to grind and polish a five-hundred-meter quartz parabolic blank?"

"Three... three centuries of spiritual refining, Lord Architect?" Xue Long guessed weakly.

"It takes four hours in Dreadnought Two's automated optical mill, but it costs sixteen thousand kilowatt-hours of clean power that I need for the magnetic stator ring," Austin snapped. "Take out your microfiber rag, spray it with the ninety-nine percent isopropyl alcohol in your hip bottle, and wipe it in small, concentric circles until the optical reflectivity returns to ninety-nine point nine eight percent. If I put the digital lux meter on that glass and see a single streak when the laser collimation test runs, your crew loses dessert privileges in the mess hall for the rest of the week."

"We shall polish it until it outshines the souls of our ancestors!" Xue Long screamed in panic, frantically whipping a blue microfiber cloth from his vest pocket and scrubbing the glass surface with desperate, circular strokes.

Beside him, Xuan Ming drifted by on an automated robotic maneuvering pack, holding an electronic torque wrench and checking off itemized entries on an aluminum clipboard.

"Work with vigor, Commander Xue Long!" Xuan Ming bellowed through his suit speakers, his pristine white supervisor hard hat gleaming with moral and regulatory authority. "The Lord Architect has graciously granted your heretical souls the supreme opportunity to achieve redemption through zero-defect structural assembly! Under Section 4 of the Celestial Construction Code, a white hard hat is earned only through three consecutive months of zero lost-time incidents and flawless QA inspection! You lost your white hat privileges the moment you dented that valve stem with your illegal siphon! Polish with reverence!"

"Yes, Supervisor Xuan Ming!" Xue Long chanted, tears of exertion pooling in his four eyes beneath his visor. "No streaks! Absolute ninety-nine point nine eight percent optical specular reflectance!"

Down below them, the true scale of the deployment was breathtaking.

Over the past forty-eight hours, the thirty converted dreadnought foundries—operating on continuous, round-the-clock three-shift industrial production cycles—had stamped, polished, coated, and launched eleven thousand additional parabolic collector mirrors into high planetary orbit.

Now, a total of twelve thousand mirrors—each five hundred meters in diameter, constructed of ultra-lightweight beryllium-aluminum honeycomb backing and faced with nine-layer dielectric reflective coatings—were arrayed in a vast, glittering spherical shell encompassing the orbital ring.

They were not merely floating randomly. Each mirror was equipped with a three-axis brushless servo-gimbal, a cold-gas attitude thruster cluster, and a laser transceiver linked directly to Austin’s master control terminal on the Geosynchronous Ring.

Austin stood on the central broadcast tower of the Geosynchronous Ring, leaning against the schedule-40 galvanized steel railing with his clipboard in one hand and a calibrated optical pyrometer in the other.

Behind him, hovering fifty yards above the magnetic transit rail, was an automated flotilla of four hundred and fifty "squeegee drones"—small, spherical maintenance robots Austin had fabricated from scrap sheet metal, surplus servo motors, and heavy-duty silicone windshield wiper blades. Equipped with heated tanks of de-ionized wash fluid and ultrasonic scrubbers, the little drones zipped from mirror to mirror across the void like mechanical bumblebees, diligently scrubbing away stray particles of cosmic dust, rocket propellant residue, and solar wind soot.

At the edge of Mirror 884, Chonker the giant panda was floating in an oversized, spherical silver void-suit. The panda had somehow managed to wedge his puffy rear end into the cargo cradle of a squeegee drone, happily holding a high-pressure spray nozzle in both paws and hosing down the quartz glass with soapy fluid, letting out muffled, joyful snorts over the radio.

"Chonker," Austin called over the radio, sighing deeply. "Get off the squeegee drone. You're overloading the pitch trim motor."

Chonker waved a puffy silver paw, gave the glass one final triumphant wipe with his paw-mitt, and gently drifted back toward the dreadnought airlock, clutching a dried bamboo shoot in his mouth.

"Looking good," Austin muttered, clicking his ballpoint pen and checking off the optical collimation column. "Clean glass is happy glass."

Jiang Taixu floated over to Austin's side, his ancient robes sealed securely inside his custom void-suit. The old sword grandmaster was staring out into the vast, dark emptiness of the outer solar system, where a dense cluster of dark crimson points of light was rapidly swelling into a terrifying, blood-red constellation.

"Lord Architect," Jiang Taixu said, his voice solemn and heavy with the dread of impending cosmic annihilation. "The deep-void scrying arrays have confirmed the worst. It is not merely a vanguard fleet. Sovereign Chen Tian... the supreme Grand Master of the Star-Devouring Citadel... has arrived in person. He leads the Ancient Void Armada: one hundred Class-X dreadnoughts, and at their center, *The Void Devourer*... a fifty-mile mobile fortress forged from the crushed core of a dead star."

Austin didn't even look up from his checklist. "Fifty miles, huh? That’s roughly two hundred and forty million tons of low-grade structural steel and void-iron. That would give us enough raw plate to build the secondary orbital railway around the southern hemisphere."

Jiang Taixu blinked beneath his helmet, his jaw dropping inside his visor. "Raw plate? Lord Architect, they have brought the Sovereign Star-Drills! They possess the power to anchor their siphons into both of our suns, strip our atmosphere into vacuum, and use the iron of our planetary core to forge slave shackles for a thousand generations! The ancient scriptures state that wherever the Void Devourer passes, stars go dark and mortal realms are reduced to wandering dust!"

"They can't even keep their own exhaust plumes within basic emissions limits," Austin said, finally tucking his clipboard into his leather pouch and pulling out a pair of high-powered laser rangefinder binoculars.

He pointed the binoculars toward the approaching crimson armada.

Through the multi-coated optics, the enemy fleet was visible in chilling, unmistakable detail. One hundred massive, spiked black warships, each five to ten miles long, were advancing in an interlocking wedge formation. In the center hovered *The Void Devourer*—a monstrous, jagged black mountain of void-iron fifty miles in length, surrounded by swirling vortexes of stolen red star-plasma and crackling with jagged arcs of dark crimson lightning.

Behind the fleet, long, filthy trails of black, unburnt carbon particulates and toxic sulfurous propellant gases were billowing across the pristine vacuum of space, drifting directly toward Austin's newly deployed mirror array.

Austin lowered the binoculars, his eyes cold, his jaw set in profound, righteous contractor fury.

"Look at that exhaust plume," Austin whispered, his voice trembling with genuine outrage. "No catalytic converters. No particulate traps. No urea injection systems. They’re running unrefined bunker-C void-fuel through open-chamber thrusters. The sulfur particulate cloud is going to deposit a three-micron film of oily soot over every single mirror in Sector Eight before four o’clock."

Jiang Taixu swallowed hard. "The... the soot, Lord Architect?"

"Do you have any idea how long it takes four hundred and fifty squeegee drones to wash twelve thousand five-hundred-meter mirrors with isopropyl alcohol?!" Austin roared, turning toward the central control console. "It takes seventy-four hours! We don't have seventy-four hours! The Level 82 core collapse countdown timer is down to twenty-two hours!"

He slammed his hand down on the primary pneumatic intercom lever, broadcasting across all twelve thousand mirrors, all thirty dreadnought foundries, all twelve elevator spires, and down to the mortal empires below.

"All maintenance personnel, squeegee operators, and pandas, clear the focal plane immediately! I am re-orienting the entire twelve-thousand-mirror array from passive solar collection to active parabolic reflection!"

Across the void, twelve thousand massive quartz dishes turned in terrifying, synchronized precision.

Their electric gimbal motors whined in unison, tracking the orientation pings transmitted from Austin’s master console. Within eight seconds, twelve thousand five-hundred-meter mirrors pivoted sixty degrees, their curved, silver faces catching the blazing, five-hundred-exawatt fury of the binary suns and concentrating the reflected solar flux into a single, razor-sharp, blinding beam of pure golden-white light focused directly at the focal point of Broadcast Dish 01.

Down on the surface of the planet, Emperor Wu and High Sovereign Ling Feng stepped out onto the balcony of the Imperial Palace, looking up in breathless wonder as the night sky turned into a shimmering, kaleidoscopic canopy of silver light.

"Target the lead exhaust plume," Austin commanded, his hand resting on the primary optical shutter release. "If they want to dirty my clean glass, I’m going to clean their hulls down to bare, sparkling metal."
