Rook announced the contractor’s removal beneath the same shelter sign that still said the failure was unforeseen.
Cameras stood behind a rope line. Residents gathered on the pavement, some holding copies of Jo’s report and others carrying photographs of the damaged building. Rook spoke without a raised platform. Celia stood beside him with a folder, and a city official waited near the fence.
“Aegis will end the current contract with Central Shield Facilities while the inquiry examines the records,” Rook said. “We support an independent review of the shelter warning and the clearance process.”
Eli looked at the contractor name. C-S and CSF appeared in Quill’s packet as abbreviations. The announcement gave those letters a likely match, but it did not establish that every reference in the packet meant the same company or that Rook had ordered a report changed.
A resident called from the crowd. “Does removal mean they suppressed the warning?”
“The inquiry will determine what happened,” Rook replied. “The decision reflects concerns about the contractor’s handling of records and its cooperation with the review.”
“Who told them to do it?”
“We won’t speculate before the evidence is examined.”
