The assessor put an empty tray on the table between them.
“This is where you may place the artifact.”
Eli kept his hands in his lap. Nora sat beside him with her own notebook. The interview room had a window facing an interior courtyard, a wall clock, and a camera whose indicator light was on. The assessor, a woman named Dr. Nordin, had explained that the recording would be retained under the policy Nora had received.
“I don’t have an artifact to place there,” Eli said.
Dr. Nordin did not move the tray. “Your earlier statement referred to one.”
“It was misleading. I don’t possess an artifact that caused the anchoring effect in the shelter.”
“Did you possess one at the time?”
“No.”
