Chapter 102: Planting the Sun-Pumpkins

The morning air on Solitude Spire carried the crisp, sweet scent of mountain pine and fresh earth.

Felix Vance sat on the cedar porch steps, scraping the bottom of a glazed ceramic bowl with a wooden spoon.

He finished his sweet rice porridge, set the bowl down on the low cedar tea table, and took a sip from his Infinite Cozy Teacup.

Underneath the short left table leg, Grandmaster Vivienne’s purple Sovereign Heart Seal held the furniture rock-steady against the deck boards.

Right beside it, the glowing Soul-Pearl kept Felix's drop-rate charts pinned flat against the morning breeze.

A few feet away on his brass stand, Barnaby the clockwork owl watched the horizon with dim amber crystal eyes.

The thick black rubber stopper remained clamped tight between the owl's brass mandibles, holding the polished copper tip in an unbreakable grip.

Inside his brass chest, his internal gears spun with a soft, steady rhythm: *tick... tick... tick...*

Down in the clover meadow, the Thunder Gryphon lay curled into an enormous golden ball, snoring peacefully with its tail over its snout.

Every few seconds, a tiny spark of violet ozone puffed harmlessly from its nostrils.

Near the garden path, the five-star Sun-Lotus Cabbage radiated a steady, comfortable heat that kept the entire spire wrapped at sixty-nine degrees.

Felix stood up, dusting a few grains of rice from his loose hemp tunic.

He stepped off the porch and walked out past the stone fence into the newly expanded three-square-mile territory.

The dark earth stretched outward in gentle, rolling swells, completely unplanted.

Felix walked fifty paces into the middle of the field and squatted down.

He reached out with both hands and scooped up a large clump of the black dirt.

The soil was shockingly soft and supple.

Felix kneaded the dark clump between his fingers, watching it yield and reshape without crumbling or sticking to his skin.

"Huh," Felix said aloud, pressing his thumbs into the center of the dark lump. "This stuff feels exactly like warm bread dough fresh out of a bakery oven."

It was warm to the touch, humming with a cozy vibration like a heated car seat on a cold morning.

It smelled like roasted barley, clean spring rain, and fresh yeast.

Felix opened his obsidian AetherDeck, tapping through the menus of Pocket Garden: Cozy Harvest.

He opened his virtual storage bag and selected the seed inventory:

"Five hundred pumpkin seeds," Felix muttered, tapping the virtual screen. "And one leftover radish seed stuck in the seam from the tutorial."

With a soft golden flash, a heavy burlap sack materialized on the grass beside his straw slippers.

Felix untied the rough twine rope and peered inside.

The pumpkin seeds inside were large, plump, and glowed with a cheerful golden luster.

Tucked at the bottom was a single, tiny, pearlescent white seed no bigger than a grain of salt.

"Leaving three square miles of bare dirt is just asking for weeds to spawn," Felix said, shaking his head. "Plus, blank dirt looks like an untextured developer map. Might as well drop some crops so the scenery looks decent."

He plunged his hand into the sack, pulled out a fistful of golden pumpkin seeds, and began strolling across the black field.

Using the heel of his straw slipper, he casually scraped shallow furrows into the yielding, dough-like dirt.

*Scritch. Scritch. Scritch.*

With lazy, effortless flicks of his wrist, Felix scattered the golden seeds into the furrows.

He didn't bother using a ruler or measuring distances.

He simply tossed them like he was feeding pigeons in a park, humming a jaunty tune under his breath.

Suddenly, a chorus of choked, trembling gasps rose from the edge of the terrace.

Felix paused, half a fistful of seeds still in his hand, and glanced over his shoulder.

Lord Nether-Bane, the ancient Ghost King, stood near the stone fence alongside his eighty spectral corsairs.

Every one of the undead pirates wore a spotless, bleached hemp apron tied neatly across their skeletal ribs.

In their bony hands, they held polished brass hoes, silver garden spades, and small wooden rakes.

The Ghost King looked at Felix, then looked down at the golden seeds resting in the warm black furrows.

The skeletal monarch's hollow eye sockets flared with brilliant emerald soulfire.

His bleached jaw clattered so violently that his loose molars clicked against his cheekbones.

"The... the Primordial Loam of Creation..." the Ghost King gasped, his voice cracking with unbearable reverence. "The Supreme Patriarch is sowing the seeds of the heavens with his own sacred hands!"

Behind him, eighty spectral corsairs dropped to their knees in the clover, weeping tears of pure spectral ectoplasm into their hemp aprons.

"Look at his posture!" one corsair sobbed. "He bends the supreme cosmic laws with every stride! He touches the black earth without hesitation!"

Lyra Ashford emerged from the cottage, stepping onto the cedar porch with her silver rapier at her side.

She stopped at the railing, her breath catching in her throat as she took in the scene before her.

Senior Brother was walking through the steaming black field in his loose hemp tunic, scattering radiant golden seeds into the earth with total, unhurried grace.

Every motion seemed completely accidental, yet to Lyra's trained martial senses, each toss traced the sacred geometry of the celestial sphere.

*He does not bury the seed in suffocating darkness,* Lyra thought, her pulse racing with sudden enlightenment. *He lays them upon the warm surface, trusting the supreme nourishment of the earth to welcome them.*

*He shapes the furrows with the simple tread of his straw slipper, imparting his boundless solar warmth directly into the soil!*

*This is the Dao of Effortless Generation! To cultivate life not through violent struggle, but through absolute harmony with the natural current of the universe!*

Tears of realization shimmered in Lyra's eyes as she clutched the porch railing.

*Senior Brother is demonstrating the foundational truth of creation before our very eyes,* Lyra whispered in her heart. *And he does so as casually as a mortal farmer greeting the dawn!*

Out in the field, Felix turned around completely, looking at the eighty weeping skeletons kneeling in hemp aprons.

He scratched the back of his ear, thoroughly bewildered.

"Hey," Felix called out. "What are you guys crying about now? Did someone drop a rake on their foot?"

The Ghost King immediately dropped flat onto his face, slamming his skull into the black earth with a muffled thud.

"Supreme Patriarch!" the Ghost King cried, his bony hands trembling in the dirt. "This unworthy servant begs for your forgiveness! We have disturbed your sacred sowing ceremony with our wretched presence!"

"It's not a sacred ceremony," Felix said with a tired sigh, tossing another seed into the furrow. "It's just pumpkin planting. My back is getting stiff from bending over. If you guys are just going to stand there sobbing, you can take over."

The Ghost King raised his skull, his emerald eye sockets blazing with joy.

"You... you would entrust the cultivation of the Divine Solar Gourds to our filthy hands?!" the Ghost King stammered. "To us, the disgraced remnants of the northern void?!"

"Yeah, sure, whatever," Felix said, tossing the burlap sack onto the ground between them. "There's five hundred seeds in there. Spread them out across the field so they aren't clumped together. And listen closely, this is the most important rule."

The eighty corsairs held their breath, leaning forward until their hemp aprons brushed the soil.

"Do not overwater them," Felix said firmly, pointing an index finger at the Ghost King. "Pumpkins hate soggy dirt. If the soil turns into mud, the roots rot, and then the system gives you gray-tier moldy garbage. Just rake the dirt over the seeds and leave them alone."

The Ghost King's soul trembled to its very foundations.

*Do not overwater them!* the skeletal king repeated silently, carving the words into his immortal soul with burning terror.

*He speaks of the Cosmic Principle of Yin and Yang!*

*The Golden Gourd is an avatar of Pure Solar Yang! If we drown it in the cold Yin of mortal water, the celestial flame will be extinguished!*

*The Patriarch is testing our comprehension of the supreme elemental balance! If we allow excess moisture to corrupt the holy root, we will murder a divine spirit-child!*

"We swear upon our eternal souls!" the Ghost King roared, rising to his feet with fanatical determination. "Zero drops of disharmonious Yin water shall touch the sacred roots! We shall guard the cosmic moisture balance with our very lives!"

Felix blinked, staring at the manic skeleton.

"Okay... good," Felix said slowly. "Glad we're on the same page. No swamp pumpkins. Just keep it dry."

Felix dusted off his hands, pleased that he had successfully outsourced another tedious farming chore to the local NPC workforce.

He turned on his heel and strolled back toward the porch, his straw slippers swishing through the sweet mountain grass.

Behind him, the eighty spectral corsairs sprang into action with mechanical, terrified precision.

Two corsairs carried the burlap sack between them as if it contained fragile dragon eggs.

The Ghost King personally measured the depth of every furrow using a polished bone sliver, ensuring each seed was covered by precisely two inches of crumbly, warm black soil.

"Gently, you sea-dogs!" the Ghost King hissed through his teeth, swatting a pirate's knuckles with his wooden rake. "Cover the golden prince with the tenderness of a mother tucking in an infant! If anyone harms that divine earth, I will feed your soul to the void furnace!"

Up on the porch, Felix collapsed back into his woven recliner, letting out a long, luxurious groan of relief.

He reached for his Infinite Cozy Teacup, taking another hot, perfectly brewed sip.

Beside him, Barnaby's gears continued their steady, soothing pace: *tick... tick... tick...*

Down in the clover meadow, the Thunder Gryphon rolled onto its back, exposing its golden feathered belly to the morning sun and letting out a rumbling snore.

Lyra Ashford walked over, offering Felix a warm, damp linen towel with both hands.

"Senior Brother," Lyra said softly, her voice filled with quiet reverence. "Your mercy toward those lost souls is truly boundless. To grant such corrupted spirits the privilege of tending the seeds of Heaven... you are purifying their karmic sins through sacred labor."

Felix took the damp cloth and wiped the dirt from his fingers, completely unfazed.

"Honestly, Lyra, it's just basic automation," Felix said, tossing the cloth onto the side table. "Why spend two hours manually clicking furrow tiles when you have free helper mods installed? Let the NPCs do the busywork while we bank the passive idle gains."

Lyra smiled serenely, bowing her head in quiet contemplation.

*He calls the cosmic karmic cycle 'basic automation,'* Lyra thought to herself, her heart overflowing with awe. *To him, the redemption of eighty damned souls is nothing more than assigning tasks to the wind. Truly, his realm is beyond all mortal reckoning.*

Felix pulled his straw hat down over his eyes, crossing his hands over his belly.

Underneath his ribs, the Sol-Class core radiated a steady, comfortable wave of heat that wrapped him like a down comforter.

"Wake me up around lunch," Felix murmured from beneath the hat. "Let's see if those pumpkins sprout by dinner."

Within thirty seconds, the soft, rhythmic breathing of the Supreme Solar Patriarch joined the gentle ticking of the clockwork owl, filling the sunny porch with the sweetest, most absolute peace in the heavens.
