Chapter 132: Territorial Squabbles at the Coop

Dawn broke across Solitude Spire in soft ribbons of amber and rose.

High above the cloud sea, a crisp mountain breeze rustled the needles of the ancient iron-pines.

Coiled beneath the eastern eave of the cottage, Ignis-Azureus let out a long, contented snore.

*Hsssss... puff... whistle.*

The Azure Dragon King had enjoyed the most magnificent sleep of his four-thousand-year existence.

Tucked snugly under the cedar overhang, his three-hundred-foot body had absorbed the gentle, passive warmth radiating through the walls from Felix’s Sol-Class stellar core.

The fifteen-million-degree nuclear furnace was deep within Felix's dantian, yet its soothing hydrostatic harmony bled through the floorboards like an eternal heating pad.

Ignis-Azureus felt his draconic meridians glowing with tranquil vigor.

Even the wooden gutter above his head remained completely free of debris, smelling faintly of toasted cedar.

Across the yard, a heavy wooden latch clicked open.

*Squeeeeak.*

The noise came from the western fence line, near Lord Nether-Bane's vegetable patch.

There stood the luxury roost.

Constructed during the sky-island expansion, the coop was an architectural marvel of miniature luxury, featuring double-paned mica windows and nest boxes lined with solar-cured mountain straw.

From within the shadowy interior emerged a creature of terrifying domestic majesty.

The Thunder Gryphon stepped out onto the damp clover.

The golden eagle-lion hybrid stretched its front talons forward in a deep bow, arched its feathered spine, and let out a guttural morning yawn that revealed a wicked, bone-crushing beak.

Across its fierce face sat a pair of custom-crafted accessories.

It was wearing leather sleep goggles.

Felix had cobbled the goggles together from void-bear hide, brass buckles, and soft fleece lining so the morning sun wouldn't wake the bird before nine o'clock.

The gryphon took two heavy, pigeon-toed steps across the grass.

Then, its feathered crest shot straight up.

Its sharp nostrils flared.

*Sniff... sniff... snort.*

The crisp mountain air did not smell merely of morning dew and pine resin.

It smelled of ancient, ionized storm scales.

The Thunder Gryphon reached up with a razor-sharp claw, flicking the sleep goggles up onto its feathery forehead.

Its fierce, golden eagle eyes narrowed into razor-thin slits, locking onto the porch.

There, coiled beneath the sacred eaves where the morning sun hit the cedar siding, lay a three-hundred-foot blue lizard.

The gryphon’s feathers instantly puffed out to twice their normal volume.

Its golden neck ruff bristled with crackling static electricity.

To the Thunder Gryphon, this was an intolerable violation of coop zoning regulations.

*SCREEEEEE-CHIRP!*

The gryphon unleashed a loud, haughty screech that sent a flock of distant sparrows tumbling out of the pines.

It began its territorial march.

It strutted across the clover lawn with an absurd, high-stepping swagger, puffing its chest out like a golden bowling ball on talons.

*Thump. Scratch. Thump.*

Down in the cabbage patch, Lord Nether-Bane rested his skeletal hands on his hoe, chuckling quietly through his teeth.

"Here comes the landlord," Nether-Bane clicked to his corsairs. "Ten coppers says the chicken takes a bite out of his snout."

"No bet, Captain," the lead corsair whispered back. "The bird has zero survival instinct and infinite confidence. That makes it invincible."

The gryphon reached the flagstone terrace.

With a sharp beat of its massive wings, it hopped up onto the cedar porch railing, landing barely three feet from Ignis-Azureus’s resting head.

The gryphon tilted its head ninety degrees, peering down at the massive dragon through one arrogant golden eye.

Then, it leaned forward.

*BZZZZT.*

A tiny, spiteful spark of violet static electricity arced from the tip of the gryphon’s beak, zapping Ignis-Azureus squarely on the bridge of his snout.

Ignis-Azureus’s golden eyes snapped wide open.

The Primordial Dragon King jerked his head back, his sapphire scales flaring with instinctive alarm.

For half a second, the ancient pride of the Upper Strata ignited in his veins.

*Who dares?!* the Dragon King roared internally.

*I am Ignis-Azureus, Lord of the Nine Azure Storm Courts! What impudent mortal fowl dares discharge static sparks at my primordial snout?!*

Ignis-Azureus bared his needle-sharp fangs, drawing in breath to unleash a crushing draconic roar of dominance.

He looked directly at the creature standing on the railing.

And then, his draconic breath caught in his throat.

His golden pupils dilated until they filled his eyes.

The dragon’s terrifying aura collapsed into absolute, shuddering panic.

*Wait...* Ignis-Azureus’s mind screamed. *Look at this beast!*

Through his ancient senses, the dragon king perceived the horrifying spiritual reality of the bird in front of him.

The gryphon’s golden feathers were saturated with pure, concentrated fifteen-million-degree solar vitality from rolling in the Master's discarded tea leaves.

Its talons bore traces of five-star Sun-Lotus Cabbage stalks.

Even worse, resting on its feathery brow was a tailored artifact of enchanted leather and polished brass.

*The Sovereign crafted bespoke headgear for this winged entity!* Ignis-Azureus realized, cold sweat breaking out beneath his scales.

*It resides in an ornate private villa with insulated walls and heated straw!*

*This is not a pet. This is the Senior Familiar of the Sanctuary!*

Ignis-Azureus mentally recalculated his entire life.

He had arrived at Solitude Spire yesterday morning as a probationary eaves-sweeper.

This bird was a tenured resident.

If he so much as hissed at this feathered grandmaster, the Sovereign Vance would banish him back to the cold, drafty Upper Strata without any solar warmth.

The gryphon took another stiff step along the railing, clicking its beak aggressively.

*CLACK. CLACK.*

It let off another tiny shower of static sparks, glaring at the dragon with pure contempt.

Ignis-Azureus did not roar.

He clamped his jaws shut, tucked his massive lightning antlers flat against his neck, and slowly lowered his chin until it was pressed completely flat against the wooden floorboards.

He flattened his entire body, pressing himself as tightly as possible against the wall beneath the cedar eaves.

He made himself look as small, skinny, and non-threatening as a common garden garter snake.

*Purrrrrr... rumble... purrrr.*

From deep within his draconic chest, Ignis-Azureus produced a soft, rhythmic, submissive vibration.

He rolled his golden eyes upward, gazing at the gryphon with complete deference.

*I am merely the junior eaves-cleaner,* his posture screamed. *The yard is yours, Senior Brother Bird!*

The Thunder Gryphon stared down at the trembling dragon for three silent seconds.

It puffed its feathers out one last time, asserting its absolute moral victory.

Then, it leaned down and delivered a sharp, condescending peck right between the dragon’s eyes.

*TOCK.*

It sounded like a wooden hammer striking a ceramic plate.

Ignis-Azureus didn't even flinch.

He took the disciplinary peck with stoic humility, keeping his eyes respectfully lowered.

The gryphon let out a satisfied *cluck-chirp*, turned its feathery rear toward the dragon, and casually hopped down from the railing onto the porch.

It strutted over to its ceramic breakfast bowl near the kitchen steps, completely ignoring the three-hundred-foot leviathan behind it.

At that exact moment, the kitchen screen door creaked open.

Felix Vance shuffled out onto the porch, yawning widely.

He was wearing his faded gray cotton pajama pants, an oversized linen shirt, and his woven-straw slippers.

In his right hand, he held the white porcelain Infinite Cozy Teacup, its Nine-Sun tea steaming comfortably at exactly 68.5°C.

In his left hand, he carried a wooden bowl filled with roasted pumpkin seeds and dried cloud-melon rinds.

Felix stopped at the top of the porch steps.

He looked at the gryphon, which was happily munching on dried beetles in its bowl with its sleep goggles pushed up like sunglasses.

Then he looked over at the massive blue dragon wedged flat against the wall beneath the roofline, shivering like an apologetic basset hound.

Felix raised an eyebrow.

"Morning," Felix muttered, taking a sip of his warm tea.

*Slurp.*

He pulled out his obsidian AetherDeck to see what the morning commotion was about.

A notification window hovered on the dark glass screen:

Felix tapped his Inspector HUD, glancing between the two beasts.

【Target: Thunder Gryphon】 【Status: Victorious Alpha Backyard Tyrant】 【Current Mood: Smug, Well-Rested, Entitled】 【Inspector Note: An apex predator that has completely forgotten how to hunt in the wild. Extremely self-aware of his probationary status. Will not cause trouble.】

Felix let out a low chuckle.

"Good," Felix said, walking down the steps. "No PvP in the front yard. I hate having to clean up feathers and scales before my morning tea."

He walked over to the gryphon's bowl and dumped half of the roasted pumpkin seeds inside.

"Good boy," Felix said, giving the gryphon a brief scratch behind its feathered ears.

The gryphon let out a happy, rumbling purr, rubbing its cheek against Felix's linen sleeve.

Then Felix turned toward the corner of the porch.

He looked at the giant blue dragon, which was still watching him with wide, pleading eyes.

Felix reached into the wooden bowl, pulled out a thick strip of sun-dried cloud-melon rind, and tossed it through the air.

"Here," Felix said. "Catch."

The melon rind arced across the porch.

Ignis-Azureus snapped his neck forward with lightning speed, catching the melon rind delicately between his front teeth.

He swallowed it whole.

The moment the dried fruit hit his draconic belly, a wave of pure golden vitality exploded through his spirit veins.

The melon had grown right next to the Sun-Lotus Cabbage, nurtured by the passive solar exhaust of Felix's stellar core.

To Felix, it was fruit compost.

To Ignis-Azureus, it was a heavenly pill of celestial marrow.

The dragon's eyes turned misty with profound gratitude.

*The Sovereign feeds me!* Ignis-Azureus wept silently, resting his chin on his paws. *Even though I am merely the junior pet, he grants me the divine fruits of his celestial garden!*

Over by the kitchen entrance, Lyra Ashford stood frozen in the doorway, carrying a fresh plate of steamed buns.

Her silver-trimmed robes fluttered in the morning breeze as she stared at the scene, her soul reeling with awe.

*Unbelievable...* Lyra thought, her hands trembling against the porcelain platter.

*Ignis-Azureus is an ancient Sovereign King of the Primordial Dragon Realm, an existence worshiped by three thousand sects!*

*Yet before Senior Brother Vance, worldly bloodlines and ancestral status are utterly meaningless!*

*In Senior Brother's eyes, there are no kings and no emperors.*

*There are only those who respect the peace of the sanctuary!*

*By allowing the gryphon to discipline the dragon, Senior Brother has taught the heavens a profound lesson in cosmic humility.*

*The proud dragon bows to the humble bird.*

*The mighty submits to the weak.*

*This is the Great Reversal of the Heavenly Dao!*

Lyra bowed her head reverently toward the garden.

"Senior Brother’s domestic governance reflects the harmony of the stars," Lyra whispered with boundless devotion. "Where all living things find their rightful station in peace."

Felix walked back up the porch steps, completely oblivious to Lyra's internal crisis.

He set his teacup down on the low cedar table, right next to the glowing Soul-Pearl paperweight.

Underneath the table leg, the Sovereign Heart Seal held the furniture perfectly rigid against the wood.

Barnaby the clockwork owl stood on his brass perch nearby, his black rubber stopper locked securely in his beak, his internal gears clicking with steady, soothing perfection: *tick... tick... tick.*

Felix pulled his wicker chair out, sat down, and leaned back against the warm cedar siding.

He lifted his Infinite Cozy Teacup and took another long, slow sip of the 68.5°C Nine-Sun tea.

*Slurp.*

The yard was quiet.

The gutters were clean.

The gryphon was happily eating seeds in its goggles.

The dragon was curled neatly under the eaves, acting as a decorative draught-excluder.

Felix smiled faintly, closing his eyes as the morning sun warmed his face.

"Zero pet drama," Felix sighed happily. "That's another daily quest checked off with zero effort."
