Chapter 134: Storm Pearl Fairy Lights

As late afternoon bled into evening, the rainstorm over Solitude Spire settled into an endless, soothing drizzle.

The heavy thunder had rolled away, leaving behind a thick blanket of pewter clouds that turned the sky dim and shadowy.

Beneath the cedar roof of the porch, the air was cool, fresh, and completely dry.

Thanks to the Abyssal Storm-Slate splash guard and Ignis-Azureus’s tireless service at the corner downspout, zero water reached the flagstones.

However, a new domestic irritation had arisen.

It was too dark.

Felix Vance lay nestled in his cloud-silk hammock, holding his obsidian AetherDeck above his face.

He was trying to read through the newly downloaded patch notes for the offline mobile mini-games.

With the heavy cloud cover blotting out the sun, the covered porch had plunged into an awkward, murky twilight.

Felix squinted at the screen, rubbing the bridge of his nose.

"Eye strain," Felix muttered, lowering the slate with a deep, aggrieved sigh. "Reading in the dark is how you get a permanent debuff to your vision stat. Who turned off the ambient lighting?"

He looked around the porch.

In standard fantasy cultivation realms, illumination was always a nightmare.

Sect elders loved using blinding spirit-crystal lamps that blasted six thousand lumens of harsh, sterile, hospital-white glare directly into your retinas.

Those lamps gave Felix an instant migraine.

The alternative was ordinary mortal oil lanterns, which smelled of greasy mutton fat and smoked up the clean cedar rafters.

Felix didn't want a celestial searchlight, nor did he want a greasy lantern.

He wanted what every sensible modern gamer wanted on a rainy afternoon: warm, aesthetic patio mood lighting.

He wanted fairy lights.

He wanted that soft, honey-golden, 2700K ambient glow that made a covered deck feel like a cozy mountain cafe.

Felix's gaze drifted toward the far corner of the porch.

There, resting against the cedar siding, sat an ornate embroidered silk sack.

It was the celestial tribute bag that Herald Ao-Kun had hurriedly shoved into Felix's hands during his frantic, weeping apology that morning.

Felix had tossed it into the corner and completely forgotten about it.

"Let's see if those sky lizards packed anything useful," Felix said, swinging his legs out of the hammock.

He shuffled over in his woven-straw slippers and nudged the bag open with his toe.

He reached inside and began digging through the loot.

"Vendor trash," Felix muttered, pulling out an ancient jade scroll detailing dragon combat maneuvers and tossing it aside. "Vendor trash," he added, discarding a chest-plate forged from sovereign dragon scales that looked far too heavy to wear around the house. "More vendor trash," he grunted, setting aside a pair of glowing lightning daggers.

Then, his fingers brushed against a padded velvet pouch at the bottom of the sack.

Felix opened the pouch.

Inside rested eight fist-sized, translucent crystal spheres.

Each sphere was formed from deep azure crystal, swirling with intricate, microscopic patterns of pale violet luminescence.

They were smooth, perfectly round, and surprisingly lightweight.

Felix pulled out his AetherDeck and tapped his Inspector HUD.

【Item: Primordial Sky-Thunder Orbs (Complete Set of 8)】 【Classification: Cataclysmic Celestial Munition】 【Composition: High-Density Void-Compressed Lightning Essence】 【Destructive Potential: SSS-Tier (Single Orb Output: 50 Megatons Kinetic Plasma)】 【Historical Record: Forged in the primordial depths of the Upper Strata to obliterate rebel god-realms. Capable of shattering mountain ranges and disintegrating Soul Formation patriarchs upon detonation.】 【Secondary Property: Emits an exceptionally clean, flicker-free, 2700K warm-amber luminescence when current is capped. Zero heat emissions, infinite operational lifespan.】 【Inspector Note: Apocalyptic super-weapons currently in the hands of a lazy mortal. If wired in series with suppressed voltage, they make remarkably aesthetic, zero-cost patio fairy lights.】

Felix’s eyes lit up with genuine delight.

"Cordless," Felix murmured, rolling two of the heavy crystal spheres in his palm. "Infinite battery life. Zero heat output. And it's locked at 2700K warm white."

He looked at the spheres, then looked up at the main cedar beam running the length of the porch ceiling.

"Perfect patio string lights," Felix decided. "Good drop."

He walked over to the wooden garden tool rack near the shed door.

He grabbed a spool of rough, brown hemp twine—the cheap, ordinary string Lord Nether-Bane used to tie up climbing bean stalks.

Felix pulled out his small pocket knife and cut eight equal lengths of twine.

He walked back to the porch table.

With quick, practiced motions, Felix tied an ordinary macrame cradle knot around each of the eight cataclysmic thunder orbs.

He dragged a wooden bench beneath the porch eaves.

Stepping up in his slippers, Felix tied the first Sky-Thunder Orb to the eastern corner of the cedar beam.

He spaced them out carefully, tying one orb every four feet along the timber beam, letting the hemp twine sag slightly into gentle, elegant festoons.

Within five minutes, all eight doomsday orbs were suspended along the porch roofline.

However, the moment the eighth orb was secured, the spheres reacted to the high moisture in the rainy air.

*BZZZZT! CRACKLE!*

Intense, jagged arcs of blinding azure tribulation lightning suddenly began dancing across the crystal surfaces.

The air grew thick with ozone.

The orbs began to vibrate violently, preparing to discharge forty thousand gigawatts of realm-shattering plasma directly into the atmosphere.

Felix frowned, waving his hand at the nearest orb.

"Hey," Felix said firmly. "Cut that out. No strobing, no blinding flashes. Soft ambient glow only. Keep it under twenty lumens."

Deep inside Felix's chest, his 1.0-Earth-Mass Sol-Class stellar core gave an imperceptible micro-pulse.

A razor-thin gravitational dampener washed across the porch ceiling, latching onto each of the eight spheres like an absolute electrical governor.

The violent, crackling plasma was instantly crushed down into a whisper of harmless static.

The harsh, blinding azure lightning softened, shifting through violet, then pale gold, until it settled into a rich, honeyed amber.

The eight orbs glowed with a steady, tranquil, warm-white luminescence.

The light cast long, comforting shadows across the cedar floorboards, illuminating the hammock, the low tea table, and the rain-slicked steps with the exact ambiance of a cozy, high-end mountain lodge.

Felix stepped down from the bench, brushing off his hemp trousers.

"Now that's proper mood lighting," Felix said, smiling with quiet satisfaction. "Zero glare. Exactly 2700 Kelvin."

Meanwhile, fifty miles away across the cloud sea, chaos erupted at the First Spire of the Radiant Dawn Academy.

In the High Observatory, Grand Chancellor Alistair stood before the great bronze Celestial Scrying Basin alongside Head Enforcer Valen and six Grand Elders.

They were monitoring Solitude Spire to ensure the Dragon King hadn't slaughtered the Seventh Spire.

Suddenly, the surface of the scrying water flared with blinding, apocalyptic crimson warning runes.

*CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!*

The academy's ancient defensive ward bell began tolling on its own, vibrating with frantic terror.

"Spiritual surge detected at the Seventh Spire!" the Chief Astrologer shrieked, clutching his hair. "The energy reading is off the charts! It’s... it’s breaking the measurement needles!"

Alistair leaned over the basin, his face turning the color of chalk.

Through the scrying mist, the image of Solitude Spire resolved.

There, strung along the front porch of Felix's humble cottage, eight celestial points of absolute destructive authority blazed against the rainy gloom.

Valen took one look at the mirror and fell backward out of his chair, scrambling across the marble tiles like an overturned crab.

"The... The Eight-Trigram Thunder Extermination Array!" Valen screamed, his voice cracking into a high-pitched squeak. "By the ancestors! That is the lost primordial formation of the First War!"

"Eight Primordial Sky-Thunder Cores..." Alistair whispered, his voice trembling so violently his teeth clicked together. "Each one forged from the core of a ninth-layer heavenly tribulation! Combined, their resonance creates an absolute field of spatial annihilation!"

Alistair grabbed the edges of the bronze basin, his knuckles turning dead white.

"Look at how they are bound!" Alistair rasped, pointing a shaking finger at the scrying water. "He... he has suspended eight cataclysmic planetary cores with... with coarse mortal hemp string!"

The grand elders gasped in collective horror.

"Hemp string?!" one elder cried, clutching his chest. "A single spark of tribulation energy should incinerate the twine! The fact that the string remains intact means his spiritual suppression is holding eight apocalyptic stars in absolute, suffocating submission!"

"It is a warning," Alistair breathed, tears of sheer dread leaking from his eyes. "A silent, terrifying warning to the entire world. Sovereign Vance is declaring that the wrath of the heavens is nothing more than a toy hanging from his porch beam! A single twitch of his will, and those eight stars could wipe out all seven spires in an instant!"

Alistair turned to Valen, his voice frantic: "Issue an immediate decree to all seven peaks! All flying swords are grounded! Any student who enters the airspace of the Seventh Spire shall be expelled and thrown into the void!"

Back on the porch of Solitude Spire, the kitchen door creaked open.

Lyra Ashford stepped out carrying a fresh porcelain bowl of chilled melon wedges.

She stopped at the threshold, her breath catching in her throat as she looked up.

The eight glowing orbs hung gracefully along the cedar timber, bathing the porch in a breathtaking, sacred golden light.

Lyra felt the faint, terrifying pulse of primordial tribulation power locked inside each crystal, completely subdued beneath Senior Brother's gentle atmospheric command.

*Senior Brother Vance has captured the eight tribulations of heaven...* Lyra thought, her eyes glistening with overwhelming awe.

*Cultivators spend millennia living in fear of the heavenly lightning.*

*Sovereigns sacrifice entire clans attempting to survive a single tribulation strike.*

*Yet Senior Brother Vance hung eight tribulations along his eaves like festival lanterns!*

*He did not do it to show off his power.*

*He did not do it to threaten the world.*

*He simply desired gentle illumination while listening to the rain!*

*To turn the ultimate wrath of the universe into an ornament of peace... this is the highest enlightenment of the Great Dao!*

Lyra stepped forward, placing the melon bowl gently on the cedar table.

She bowed deeply toward the hammock, her voice filled with sacred reverence:

"Senior Brother’s illumination brings eternal clarity to the rainy dusk."

Felix looked up from his hammock, nodding slightly.

"Yeah, it's nice, isn't it?" Felix said casually. "Way better than those obnoxious white lanterns. Gives the porch a nice coffee shop vibe."

He pulled up his AetherDeck.

The screen displayed an updated sanctuary overview:

Felix smiled, tapping his Inspector HUD.

【Item: Hanging Fairy Light Configuration】 【Aesthetic Rating: SSS-Tier】 【Current Function: Providing warm, flattering light for afternoon lounging.】 【Inspector Note: The outside world believes you have armed a doomsday extermination array. Felix chuckled softly.

"Good HUD," Felix muttered. "Accurate assessment."

He reached over to the low cedar table.

Grandmaster Vivienne’s purple Sovereign Heart Seal held the table rock-steady beneath his hand.

The glowing Soul-Pearl held his gacha notes securely in place.

Nearby, Barnaby the clockwork owl stood silently under the warm amber glow, his black rubber stopper locked firmly in his beak, his internal gears clicking with tranquil perfection: *tick... tick... tick.*

Felix picked up his Infinite Cozy Teacup.

The Nine-Sun tea inside steamed gently, held locked at precisely 68.5°C by its thermodynamic anchor.

He took a slow, deeply satisfying sip.

*Slurp.*

The nutty, fragrant tea warmed his chest, perfectly complementing the cozy golden glow of the hanging fairy lights.

Outside, the rain drummed softly on the cedar roof.

At the corner post, Ignis-Azureus continued channeling the downspout runoff into the barrel with silent devotion.

Felix nestled deeper into his cloud-silk hammock, pulling his blanket up to his chin.

"Warm tea, steady rain, and perfect lighting," Felix sighed happily, closing his eyes. "Now this is how you play an idle game."
