Chapter 066: The Deep Abyss Levels (21–30)

The afternoon sun over Solitude Spire was mild and harmless.

A gentle breeze drifted across the overgrown herb garden, carrying the sweet scent of the blooming Sun-Lotus Cabbage. The massive five-star vegetable glowed with warm golden light, its broad leaves fanning out like polished jade plates.

Down in the clover patch, the Thunder Gryphon lay flat on its stomach.

The imperial war-mount let out a rumbling snore, paws twitching as it chased imaginary sheep in its sleep. Its brass feathers gleamed under the sun, useless as a guard dog.

Inside the quiet kitchen, Grandmaster Vivienne’s Sovereign Heart Seal remained wedged under the front left leg of the pine table. The primordial relic hummed with faint violet sparks, keeping three ceramic bowls from wobbling.

On the porch railing, Barnaby the clockwork owl sat motionless.

The thick black rubber stopper was jammed deep into his open brass beak, sealing off his motivational speeches. Barnaby held a tarnished copper coin tucked tightly beneath his left talon, amber crystal eyes tracking a yellow butterfly across the yard.

Felix Vance shifted slightly in his Zero-Gravity Recliner.

The chair floated an inch above the weathered cedar planks on magnetic repelling coils. Felix had his straw hat tilted over his eyes, bare feet crossed at the ankles, and hands resting lazily over his stomach.

Inside his chest, his 2.0-Earth-Mass terrestrial core hummed with deep stability.

Two whole planetary masses of condensed primordial weight sat comfortably behind his ribs, anchoring him like a mountain. To Felix, it just felt like a heavy lunch that refused to digest.

He tapped the obsidian screen of his brass-cased AetherDeck with a lazy thumb.

The screen chimed with a cheery 8-bit jingle:

DEV CONSOLE

• Unlock the Abyssal Void Gate
• Defeat the Stage Guardian on Floor 30

Stamina Cap: 100/100

Felix let out a tired sigh beneath his straw hat.

"Platforming sections," Felix muttered. "Why is it always platforming sections?"

He dragged his thumb across the brass directional pad, nudging his pixel knight forward.

On the screen, the retro knight wore blocky armor and carried a tiny pixel sword. The dungeon had shifted from stone corridors to floating obsidian ruins suspended over an endless purple chasm.

Every few tiles, stone blocks drifted up and down on jerky pixel cycles.

"I hate floating ruins," Felix grumbled. "Who builds a dungeon with moving platforms over a pit? That is terrible design. Fire the architect."

The screen door creaked softly.

Lyra Ashford stepped onto the porch carrying a wooden lacquer tray. She moved with light steps, white-and-silver disciple robes rustling like fresh silk. Her posture was straight, golden hair pinned with carved jade, expression filled with reverence.

She knelt beside Felix’s floating chair, setting down a celadon cup of cold honey-dew tea and a plate of sesame rice cakes.

"Senior Brother," Lyra whispered softly. "Afternoon tea is prepared, chilled with northern frost jade."

"Thanks," Felix mumbled without lifting his hat. "Put it on the stool. Don't shake the porch, I'm timing a jump."

Lyra’s eyes widened with immediate awe.

*Senior Brother is timing a jump?* she thought, pulse quickening. *Could he be calculating a dimensional leap across void boundaries? The astronomical ley lines must be shifting!*

She stared at the obsidian slate in Felix's hands.

On the dark glass, tiny glowing icons flickered in blocky patterns. To an unenlightened mortal, it looked like a child’s toy with colored lights.

Lyra knew better.

She had seen his finger taps flatten imperial sky-fleets. That slate was the sacred Scrying Plate of the Primordial Void, through which Senior Brother commanded reality.

Felix tapped the virtual jump button.

His pixel knight leaped from an obsidian ledge, cleared a bottomless gap, and landed on a floating square tile. The tile flashed red, blinking a three-second collapse warning.

"Crumbling tiles," Felix complained. "Zero original ideas. Just recycled mechanics from thirty years ago."

He flicked the d-pad, hopping to a narrow ledge on the right.

At the ledge sat a shimmering golden star icon:

【Item: First Star Fragment】 【Grade: Primordial Void Anchor】 【Inspector Note: A crystallized shard of ancient astral iron. Used to align floating spatial ruins. Completely useless for tea, but looks neat in your pocket.】

Felix tapped the collect button.

The pixel knight scooped up the golden star and stashed it in his bag with a bright chime.

At that exact moment, four thousand miles south beneath the Abyssal Mountains, the earth groaned.

Deep within the subterranean dark, the Grand Joint Expedition of the Radiant Dawn Academy was fighting for survival.

Arch-Inquisitor Valen stood on a trembling basalt outcrop, his black robes soaked in grime. His starched collar was crooked, and his silver rapier crackled with strained lightning.

Around him, sixty senior elders and two hundred disciples formed a defensive ring against crawling void beasts.

Before them lay the Abyssal Sunken Crypt of the First Epoch. The vault was filled with floating monolithic ruins, suspended in mid-air by ancient spatial arrays that had decayed over millennia.

"Hold the ward line!" Valen roared, parrying a shadow beast. "Void gravity is dragging our spirit shields down!"

"Elder Valen!" a formation master shouted. "The path to the deep vaults is severed! The floating ruins drifted out of alignment! There is no bridge! We will be buried alive!"

Valen gritted his teeth, knuckles white on his hilt.

Across the subterranean chasm, stone islands spun out of control in the black void. Crossing without an anchor meant dropping into molten rock below.

"Have the ancient gods sealed this tomb forever?" Valen muttered in despair.

Then, the cavern froze.

High above the vault, a massive golden beam of pure astral force pierced straight through three thousand feet of granite.

The ray did not shatter the rock. It passed through the earth like a phantom spear, striking the central floating ruin with the chime of a giant temple bell.

*DING.*

The chaotic rotation of the floating monoliths instantly stopped.

The first stone island, a thousand paces wide, shuddered violently. Pulled by an invisible magnetic hand, it swung ninety degrees through the air and locked into place with a deafening *THUD*.

A golden bridge of starlight extended from its edge, connecting the cavern entrance directly to the first platform.

Valen’s jaw dropped.

"The... the First Star Anchor?" Valen stammered, lowering his sword. "The three Star Fragments that govern the Abyssal Vault... someone claimed the first one?"

"Elder Valen, look at the starlight!" the formation master shrieked. "That starlight carries no elemental mana! It possesses the immovable density of a terrestrial world! Only one being wields such weight!"

Valen went pale, knees trembling.

"Solitude Spire..." Valen whispered with profound dread. "Senior Brother Vance... he is rearranging the tectonic plates of the world from his mountain porch!"

The disciples dropped to their knees in the dirt, weeping with gratitude and terror.

"Praise the Slumbering Sovereign!" they cried. "He paves the void with starlight!"

Back on Solitude Spire, Felix picked up a sesame rice cake and took a bite.

The sweet bean paste and crispy crust were great. He washed it down with a sip of chilled honey-dew tea.

"Not bad," Felix murmured. "Good crunch. Needs a bit more sugar, but solid."

Beside him, Lyra watched with rapt attention.

She had felt the localized gravity well in Felix's chest pulse just a moment ago. A tiny ripple of planetary mass had flattened the grass by half an inch before settling down.

Senior Brother had clearly crushed a calamity beast across the continent while critiquing a pastry.

"Senior Brother," Lyra asked respectfully, "did your divine maneuver proceed smoothly?"

"Eh, sort of," Felix replied, staring at his slate. "The hitboxes on these crumbling blocks are terrible. The d-pad has terrible input delay."

Lyra’s breath caught in her throat.

*Input delay?* she thought, mind racing. *The temporal lag between mortal intent and heavenly execution! Even across infinite space, his will feels atmospheric friction! How terrifying that he notices a millisecond of dimensional lag!*

"The mortal realm is full of friction, Senior Brother," Lyra said solemnly. "Your patience is truly boundless."

"Yeah, whatever," Felix said, tapping his thumb. "One fragment down. Two more before this gate opens."

He flicked the d-pad, steering his pixel knight onto the second floating section.

The screen showed an obsidian path flanked by two gargoyles spitting blue fireballs. Felix watched their rhythm: two shots, pause, three shots, pause.

"Basic three-beat cycle," Felix noted dryly. "Easiest timing window ever."

He tapped sprint.

The pixel knight darted through the gap, hopped a spinning blade trap, and slid into a stone alcove.

Inside rested the second star:

【Item: Second Star Fragment】 【Grade: Primordial Void Anchor】 【Inspector Note: A dense lump of fallen cosmic starlight. Smells like burnt toast and cold vacuum. Two out of three collected.】

Felix tapped the screen. The knight grabbed the star.

Down in the subterranean depths, another deafening chime rang through the dark.

*DING.*

A second golden beam pierced the cavern ceiling, striking the ruins.

The second colossal stone island rotated smoothly, grinding against the cavern air with titanic force. It locked against the first island, forming a wide stone highway across the abyss.

The spinning void blade traps that had torn through academy scouts ground to a sudden halt, gears frozen solid by gravitational pressure.

Arch-Inquisitor Valen stared at the frozen blades in shock.

"He bypassed the Netherfire Array in five seconds," Valen whispered, clutching his chest. "Our ancestors spent four centuries charting those fire paths, and he walks through them like a private garden!"

Back on the porch, Felix rolled his eyes.

"Alright, last one," Felix mumbled, guiding his pixel knight across a crystal bridge toward a crumbling obsidian tower. "If the drop rates on this boss are garbage, I'm logging off."

At the tower's peak hovered the third star:

【Item: Third Star Fragment】 【Grade: Primordial Void Anchor】 【Inspector Note: The final key piece. Emits enough spatial energy to jumpstart a dead moon. Slot it into the gate before stamina runs out.】

Felix tapped the button. The knight held the star high, doing a little victory hop.

A deep hum echoed from the AetherDeck:

DEV CONSOLE
STANDALONE HOST
[ABYSSAL GATE: UNLOCKED]
3/3 Star Fragments Placed in the Celestial Array!
The Path to Floor 30 is now OPEN.
Warning: Level 30 Boss Presence Detected in the Depths!

Miles below the earth, the third golden beam struck the final vault door.

A pair of prehistoric bronze gates, fifty paces tall and sealed since the First Epoch, slowly swung inward with a cavernous roar.

The path to the heart of the Abyss stood open.

Valen and his elders stood at the threshold, trembling so hard their teeth clicked.

"The gate is open," Valen breathed, voice shaking. "The Sovereign cleared the road. But what horrors await within?"

Up on the sunny porch, Felix set the AetherDeck on his lap, picked up his tea cup, and took a long sip.

He stretched his arms above his head, letting out a lazy yawn that tilted his straw hat.

"Good enough for now," Felix said, sinking into the mesh of his floating recliner. "Floors twenty-one through twenty-five cleared. I'll deal with the boss after my nap."

He pulled the straw hat over his nose, closed his eyes, and drifted into sleep.

Beside him, Lyra stood guard, watching the peaceful rise and fall of his chest with tears of reverence in her eyes.

*He opened the gates of the First Epoch,* Lyra thought proudly, *and now he slumbers to grant the heavens time to comprehend his mercy.*

Down in the yard, the Thunder Gryphon snored loudly, untroubled by the fate of the world.
