In ancient cultivation myths, gold was praised as the marrow of the sleeping earth dragon. Platinum was revered as the frozen tears of the celestial white tiger. Transuranic star-jade was worshipped as the divine bone of deceased astral lords who had dissolved into the ancient void.

To Austin, they were just elements seventy-nine, seventy-eight, and ninety-two on the periodic table. He stood on the magnetic loading dock of Dreadnought Foundry 01 with a handheld X-ray spectrometer. Right now, those precious metals were creating a massive hazard in the ring’s primary transit lane.

"Look at this mess," Austin muttered into his helmet microphone, clicking the trigger on the spectrometer. The device beeped twice with a cheerful digital chirp, displaying a bright green spectral readout on its small, back-lit liquid-crystal screen:

"Seventy-two percent gold," Austin sighed, tapping the spectrometer against his denim-clad thigh with an expression of profound contractor weariness. "Do you have any idea how soft pure gold is? You can't build a load-bearing column out of it. It cold-flows under static compression like warm cheddar cheese. If you bolt an I-beam with gold bolts, the flange will yield within forty-eight hours and your roof comes down on your head. It’s only good for electrical plating, wire bonding, and high-conductivity grounding busways. As a structural material, it's essentially expensive yellow mud."

Beside him, standing on the open diamond-plate deck, Jiang Taixu, Emperor Wu, and High Sovereign Ling Feng were staring out into the dark void in absolute, paralyzed, open-mouthed stupor.

A glittering, blazing river of solid precious metals and radiant star-gems drifted along forty thousand kilometers of the orbital ring. House-sized boulders of pure gold floated peacefully in the magnetic field. Their mirror-polished surfaces reflected the fierce glare of the twin suns. Iridescent violet star-jade tumbled alongside slabs of silver-white platinum alloy.

The Chief Imperial Treasure Master of the Great Yan Empire, an ancient minister with a long white beard, reached out with trembling hands, caught a fist-sized nugget of floating gold, and immediately brought it to his mouth to bite it, checking its purity with ancient merchant instincts.

"Drop that!" Austin barked, pointing his carpenter’s pencil at the old minister’s nose. "Clause 4.12 of the Site Sanitation Code! Never put uninspected orbital scrap into your mouth! That nugget just precipitated out of a five-hundred-million-Kelvin nuclear plasma. It’s covered in residual trace radon and beta-decay isotopes. You put that in your mouth and your teeth will fall out before your digestive tract can even begin to regret it."

The Treasure Master squeaked in terror, dropping the gold nugget into his canvas apron and vigorously wiping his tongue with his sleeve.

"The... the Golden River of the Nine Heavens..." Emperor Wu whispered, his hands trembling violently beneath his white work gloves. "For ten thousand generations, the mortal dynasties of our world waged wars that drowned entire provinces in blood, sacrificing millions of lives to seize a single gold vein in the western mountains. And here... floating in the void like gravel in a quarry driveway... is more gold than has ever existed in the history of mortal kind."

High Sovereign Ling Feng fell to his knees on the diamond-plate deck, his fingers clawing at the rim of his yellow hard hat. "The star-jade... Look at the purple star-jade! A single pea-sized pebble of transuranic star-jade can nourish a Nascent Soul patriarch for a thousand years! It can break the bottleneck of the Void Tribulation realm! There is... there are hundreds of millions of tons of it!"

Ling Feng looked up at Austin, his eyes wide and bloodshot with desperate, unadulterated longing.

"Lord Architect! I beg of you! Grant the Western Jade Lands but a single boulder of this divine star-jade! We shall build a grand temple fifty miles high to venerate your sacred name! We shall forge a golden throne upon which your descendants shall sit until the sun burns cold!"

Austin looked down at the Western sovereign with an expression of profound, weary irritation.

"Ling Feng, if I catch you hauling uninspected scrap out of this sorting bay without a signed property release form, I'm docking your kingdom’s clean energy allocation by twenty percent for the next fiscal quarter."

Ling Feng froze, blinking in terror. "A... a property release form?"

"Form 88-B: Transfer of Salvaged Industrial Byproducts," Austin recited, pulling a green paper form from his clipboard. "All materials produced by the Controlled Supernova Flash are classified as municipal surplus. Everything must be weighed, assayed by the metallurgical lab, stamped with a serial number, and assigned a designated structural application. If you want scrap offcuts to forge decorative knick-knacks, you can wait until the sorting crew finishes separating the high-conductivity busbar stock, and then you can submit a written requisition through the procurement desk at Sunset Peak. At current spot-metal commodity rates."

"We... we shall pay whatever rate you decree, Lord Architect!" Ling Feng stammered, bowing until his helmet clinked against the deck.

Austin turned to Xuan Ming, who was standing beside a newly installed thirty-ton magnetic crane.

"Xuan Ming, deploy the automated orbital dredges," Austin instructed. "I want the thirty converted dreadnoughts operating their forward tractor scoops at maximum throughput. Run the raw material through the magnetic separators. Stream One: gold and silver to the busway casting bays. Stream Two: platinum and iridium to the high-temperature bearing foundries. Stream Three: star-jade to the dielectric insulator extrusion shop. Stream Four: uranium and heavy transuranics to the ballast fabrication vaults."

"By your command, Lord Architect!" Xuan Ming roared with booming pride. He keyed his radio, switching to the all-hands salvage frequency. "All crews, engage magnetic dredges! Mobilize the orbital scrap cars! Laborer Chen, bring up the heavy push broom and the slag carts! You have fifteen million tons of gold dust to clear off Track Bravo before the afternoon freight run!"

Down on Track Bravo, former Sovereign Chen Tian was sweating profusely inside his fluorescent orange vest. The ancient cosmic horror—who had once commanded forty thousand star systems—was vigorously pushing a four-foot industrial push broom across the magnetic guide rail, sweeping mountains of sparkling, eighteen-carat gold filings into a galvanized steel dump cart pushed by Elder Mo Fan.

"Faster with the cart, Mo Fan!" Chen Tian grunted, wiping sweat from beneath his single horn. "If we leave gold filings on the stator coils, it causes magnetic eddy current drag! Supervisor Xuan Ming said if we don't clear the track by noon, we don't get the cold iced tea during our fifteen-minute break!"

"I am pushing as fast as my ancient bones permit, Sovereign!" Mo Fan wheezed, hauling the heavy two-wheeled steel cart along the rail. "Look at this platinum nugget, Sovereign... It contains enough sword intent to pierce heaven..."

"Forget the sword intent and sweep the dust!" Chen Tian snapped. "Do you want Supervisor Xuan Ming to write us another citation?! Did you not see what the Lord Architect did to our fleet with a focused mirror beam?! Keep your head down and sweep!"

High above on the central gantry, Austin watched the automated dredges swing into action.

Four massive, mile-long scoops—retrofitted from the bows of captured Harvester warships—glided through the river of glowing metals. High-power electromagnets pulled the dense metallic boulders inward, funneling them into continuous industrial jaw crushers and induction melting furnaces housed within the dreadnought foundries.

Inside the *Canine Orbital Defense Module Alpha-One*, an automated delivery tube hissed, dropping a newly fabricated toy into Pug’s shearling bed. It was a regulation-sized tennis ball, precision-milled from solid, nine-times-refined platinum, stamped with black laser engraving: `OSHA APPROVED - PROPERTY OF PUG`.

Pug’s center head sniffed the shiny platinum ball, gave it a gentle lick, and clamped his powerful jaws around it with a wet, contented *chomp*. Finding the metal pleasantly heavy, cool, and impervious to tooth punctures, all three of Pug’s tails began thumping against the foam carpet in synchronized bliss.

Tie Kuang walked over to Austin’s side, holding a smoking, freshly cast bar of star-jade in a pair of heavy iron tongs.

"Austin," Tie Kuang said, his voice tinged with quiet awe as he held up the glowing purple metal. "We just ran the dielectric breakdown test on this star-jade ingot. It withstands eighty million volts per centimeter without arcing. The thermal conductivity is four times higher than diamond, and it doesn't expand or contract between absolute zero and three thousand degrees."

Austin pulled his stainless steel slide gauge from his pocket, measuring the width of the ingot across three points.

*Click. Click.*

"Four point zero zero two inches," Austin nodded with satisfaction. "Good dimensional tolerance. That’s our primary busway material for the next phase. With four hundred million tons of this stuff, we can run high-voltage exawatt transmission lines all the way out to the asteroid belt and beyond."

He tucked the slide gauge back into his pocket, took a sip of black coffee from his thermos, and looked down at his clipboard.

The harvest was well underway. The planetary Dyson Swarm had not merely survived the supernova; it had converted the explosion into fifty billion tons of high-grade industrial materials and filled the planet’s energy banks to overflowing.

And deep within Austin's chest, the tiny, five-kilometer black seed of matter hummed with a quiet, terrifying resonance that was about to redefine the entire scope of the cosmos.
