Thick river fog coiled around the massive steel suspension cables of the Rain-Mist River Bridge. Midnight mist rolled off the dark water below, reducing visibility to less than thirty paces. Yellow streetlamps along the four-lane highway cast eerie halos through the damp gloom.
The three black Maybachs of Taichu Group glided smoothly across the empty bridge deck.
Suddenly, heavy iron spike strips clattered across the wet asphalt fifty meters ahead. Two heavy dump trucks swerved out from behind the bridge towers, blocking both lanes with an ear-splitting screech of locked tires.
The Maybach driver tapped the brakes with practiced precision. The heavy armored vehicles came to a controlled stop in the center span of the bridge.
Behind them, three black vans pulled across the highway, cutting off their retreat.
Tie Niu leaned forward from the front passenger seat, checking the armored glass panels on the doors. His dark eyes narrowed as he peered through the mist. “Chairman, it’s an organized blockade. At least thirty hostiles with heavy mechanical weapons, plus two high-tier internal martial specialists in the shadows.”
Lin Mo sat in the back of the lead Maybach, leaning back against the plush leather. Beside him sat Chu Lingxiao.
In her left hand, she held a large thermal cup of taro milk tea with a wide purple straw. Her right hand rested lightly on the polished hilt of the restored Millennium Frost-Moon Sword.
