Stepping out of the lead black sedan as his motorcade rolled to a halt outside Cleanroom Tower One, Governor Zhou Weimin carried an embossed red leather presentation case across the sunlit plaza of the Taichu Sanctuary High-Tech Park.
Ten senior provincial officials accompanied him in neat dark suits as red banners fluttered in the crisp autumn breeze.

“Chairman Lin,” Governor Zhou greeted Lin Mo with two warm hands. “The provincial council stayed in session until two o’clock this morning. Your live battery test has shaken the ministries in Beijing. The Ministry of Industry and the National Science Council have approved an immediate five-star technology citation.”
Lin Mo smiled politely, shaking the governor’s hand. “The credit belongs to Academician Fang and Dr. Lin Wei, Governor. They did the hard work. I only paid the electric bill.”
Academician Fang Dequan and Dr. Lin Wei stepped forward. They wore crisp blazers provided by Taichu’s staff.
Governor Zhou opened the presentation case. Inside lay three gleaming gold medals shaped like blooming lotuses, suspended from crimson silk ribbons.
“For ten years of selfless dedication to national energy independence,” Governor Zhou announced, pinning the first medal to Academician Fang’s lapel. “On behalf of eighty million citizens of Jiangnan, we thank you, Academician.”
