Chapter 126: The 50-Foot Eviction Notice

2,182 wordsUse ← / → keys to navigate

Morning arrived over Solitude Spire accompanied by an irritating, high-altitude drizzle.

A damp, gray mist rolled in from the Upper Strata, drifting over the western perimeter fence and coating the pine needles in shiny droplets.

Inside the luxury roost, the Thunder Gryphon opened one sleepy golden eye, tucked its head under a massive wing, and resumed snoring pale violet ozone rings.

Down in the vegetable patch, Lord Nether-Bane leaned on his iron rake, his bleached skull glistening with water droplets.

The former Ghost King wore his stained hemp apron with pristine dignity.

"Mind the drainage channels, men," Nether-Bane called out, his jaw clicking with quiet discipline. "If excess rainwater pools around the roots of the Master's five-star Sun-Lotus Cabbage, I will personally throw you into the astral compost heap."

"Aye, Lord Captain," two skeletal corsairs chanted in unison.

They shoved their wooden wheelbarrows along the gravel path, carefully inspecting each row of glowing golden-green cabbage heads.

Thanks to the cabbage's passive heat aura, the garden soil stayed pleasantly warm, emitting faint wisps of steam into the damp mountain air.

Up on the covered porch, Barnaby the clockwork owl stood on his brass perch, entirely motionless.

The thick black rubber stopper jammed between his mandibles held the polished copper tip clamped shut, preventing any obnoxious early-morning motivational lectures.

His amber crystal lenses glowed with dull satisfaction while his internal chronal gear produced a slow, steady rhythm: *tick... tick... tick.*

Beside him, the low cedar tea table stood rock-solid on the floorboards, firmly stabilized by Grandmaster Vivienne’s purple Sovereign Heart Seal jammed under the front leg.

On top of the table, held down against the breeze by the glowing Soul-Pearl paperweight, lay Felix Vance’s scribbled notes detailing the dismal drop rates of the latest limited gacha banner.

Right next to the papers sat the white porcelain Infinite Cozy Teacup.

The fragrant Nine-Sun mountain tea inside steamed gently, held at precisely 68.5°C by its absolute thermodynamic anchor.

On the porch's cloud-silk hammock, Felix Vance stirred.

*Drip... drip... drip.*

The sound was faint, rhythmic, and deeply offensive to a man trying to enjoy an uninterrupted morning nap.

Felix opened one eye beneath the brim of his straw hat.

A steady stream of gray drizzle was cascading off the cedar roof tiles, hitting the flagstone terrace with wet, muddy splatters.

Even worse, the splashback was bouncing across the porch steps, sending fine specks of dirty water directly toward his clean woven-straw slippers.

Felix let out a low, weary sigh.

"Unbelievable," Felix muttered, his voice gravelly with sleep. "Did the developers break roof collision in the latest patch? The rain splash radius is completely overtuned."

Before Felix could pull the blanket over his head, the sky directly above Solitude Spire split apart with a deafening crack of thunder.

The gentle drizzle suddenly churned into an ominous, spiraling vortex of azure gale-force winds.

From the swirling cloud bank descended a colossal, serpentine shape covered in iridescent sapphire scales.

It was Herald Ao-Kun of the Azure-Storm Dragon Court.

The dragon herald possessed twin antlers carved from solid lightning, claws that warped the surrounding air, and robes embroidered with celestial storm runes.

In his massive foreclaws, Ao-Kun gripped an enormous, fifty-foot slab of prehistoric abyssal storm-slate.

The tablet was six feet thick, weighed over four hundred thousand pounds, and crackled with ancient, jagged lightning runes that pulsed with absolute administrative wrath.

Ao-Kun hovered thirty yards above the garden, beating his massive wings with enough force to churn the cloud sea below.

"Hear the Sovereign Decree of the Nine Azure Storm Courts!" Ao-Kun bellowed, his voice vibrating through the valley like an earthquake.

Nether-Bane didn't even look up from his cabbage bed.

"Keep your voice down," Nether-Bane muttered under his breath, carefully raking mulch over a exposed root. "You're disturbing the soil compaction."

Ao-Kun ignored the undead gardener and thrust the massive stone slab forward.

"Mortal occupant of Solitude Spire!" the Herald roared, his draconic eyes burning with pride. "You stand in gross violation of Upper Strata Atmospheric Code 88-B!"

"Your unregistered, runaway thermal pillar has expanded into sovereign draconic flight corridors without a permit!"

Ao-Kun flared his storm-wings, allowing lightning to arc across the front of the fifty-foot tablet.

"The Azure-Storm Court demands immediate cessation of all illegal thermal expansion!" Ao-Kun proclaimed. "Surrender this floating spire and vacate the airspace within three solar hours, or face the total wrath of the Ancient Storm Sovereign!"

The runes on the tablet blazed with blinding blue fire, radiating an aura of crushing spatial pressure.

Around the corner of the cottage, Lyra Ashford rushed onto the porch, her silver-trimmed robes billowing in the storm wind.

She stopped dead in her tracks, her face pale as she beheld the colossal stone monument.

"The Sovereign Decree of the Azure Strata..." Lyra whispered, her knuckles whitening against the doorframe. "That stone was carved from the heart of the Abyssal Thunder Trench."

"It carries the ancestral legal weight of ten thousand dragon elders," Lyra breathed in terror. "A single strike can crush an imperial citadel into powder!"

Lyra turned her gaze toward Senior Brother Vance, her heart hammering with panic.

Felix was still lying in his hammock.

He hadn't reached for an immortal sword.

He hadn't channeled a defensive barrier.

Instead, Felix rubbed the sleep from his eyes, yawned loudly, and pulled out his obsidian AetherDeck.

He tapped the screen to summon his Inspector HUD, squinting at the giant rock floating in front of his house.

A glowing blue appraisal window popped up in his vision:

【Item: Abyssal Storm-Slate Eviction Tablet】 【Material: High-Density Void-Compressed Basalt】 【Weight: 215 Metric Tons】 【Properties: 100% Water-Repellent, Completely Impermeable, Smooth Planar Surface, Natural 5-Degree Drainage Slope】 【Durability: Indestructible by Standard Weather】 【Inspector Note: A massive, overly dramatic slab of stone covered in angry draconic legalese. While legally intended to ruin your morning, its dimensions and water-shedding properties make it exceptionally well-suited for exterior civil drainage applications.】

Felix stared at the tooltip.

He looked at the puddle of muddy water creeping closer to his slippers.

Then he looked back at the giant, perfectly flat stone tablet.

"Huh," Felix said softly. "Non-porous basalt with a five-degree bevel. That’s actually pretty convenient."

Up in the air, Herald Ao-Kun puffed his chest with pride, mistaking Felix’s blank stare for petrified terror.

"Quake before the judgment of the dragon realm!" Ao-Kun sneered, releasing his draconic grip. "Let this tablet stand as an eternal monument to your trespassing!"

"Perish under the weight of sovereign decree!"

The Herald hurled the two-hundred-ton slab downward.

The stone descended like a falling mountain, howling through the air, aimed directly at the center of the porch.

Lyra gasped, her hands instinctively forming a defensive seal.

Felix didn't even sit up in the hammock.

He simply raised his left index finger and gave it a lazy, dismissive flick toward the ground.

Deep within his chest, his Sol-Class stellar core gave an imperceptible micro-pulse.

A localized, razor-thin gravitational shear snapped into existence directly beneath the falling tablet.

The colossal stone slab didn't smash into the cottage.

It didn't shatter the flagstones.

Instead, the moment the tablet entered the porch's gravitational boundary, its downward velocity dropped to zero with a quiet *click*.

The two-hundred-ton monolith rotated ninety degrees in mid-air, sliding horizontally like a buttered breadboard.

With a smooth, sliding glide, the fifty-foot stone tablet slipped perfectly beneath the cottage's dripping roofline.

*Schwiiip.*

*Thump.*

The slab settled neatly along the edge of the stone terrace, wedged firmly between the foundation pillars and the front lawn.

It was tilted at an exact four-degree angle.

The ancient, glowing draconic eviction runes faced straight up toward the sky.

A second later, the cascading roof water hit the smooth, polished storm-slate.

*Splatter-shhhhh.*

Instead of splashing mud toward Felix's porch slippers, the rainwater struck the impermeable stone, broke into a clean, gentle sheet, and flowed smoothly down the carved lightning runes.

The water channeled directly into the gravel drainage ditch near the fence, flowing harmlessly toward the compost pile.

Zero mud splashed onto the porch boards.

Felix's straw slippers remained completely dry.

Felix leaned over the edge of the hammock, inspecting the water flow with mild satisfaction.

"Nice," Felix muttered. "No more splashback. That saved me having to dig a trench with a wooden trowel."

High above, Herald Ao-Kun hovered frozen in mid-air.

His draconic jaw hung completely slack.

His golden whiskers twitched with sheer, stunned disbelief.

The Abyssal Storm-Slate Tablet—an artifact forged in the celestial core of the Upper Strata, inscribed with the sovereign mandate of ten thousand dragon lords—had just been redirected with a twitch of a finger.

The mortal hadn't even stood up.

He hadn't broken a sweat.

He had caught an extinction-level legal decree in mid-air and used it as an outdoor gutter splash guard to protect a pair of cheap straw sandals.

*Impossible!* Ao-Kun’s mind screamed, his draconic soul trembling to its absolute core.

*The mass of that tablet carried the momentum of an astral meteor! To halt its kinetic force without causing a single crack in the floorboards requires absolute mastery over gravitational vectors!*

*He treats our ancestral eviction decree as ordinary stonework!* Ao-Kun realized, cold terror gripping his spine.

*He didn't even read the writing!*

Over on the porch, Lyra Ashford stared at the newly installed storm-slate splash board, her eyes wide with overwhelming enlightenment.

Her breathing hitched as the Dao behind Senior Brother’s action unfolded in her mind.

*Senior Brother Vance is truly beyond the realm of mortal masters,* Lyra thought, her hands trembling with awe.

*The Upper Strata sent their heaviest stone to declare authority over the mortal realm.*

*Yet Senior Brother didn't retaliate with violence.*

*Instead, he turned their weapon of eviction into a tool of passive drainage!*

*To conquer an enemy's wrath and force it to protect the hem of your slippers... this is the highest form of Non-Action!*

*This is the Sovereign Solar Dao!*

Lyra stepped forward, bowing deeply toward the hammock with reverent tears glimmering in her eyes.

"Senior Brother’s architectural foresight is boundless," Lyra whispered with immense devotion. "The storm itself now cleanses your entryway, while their ancestral tablet guards your threshold against the dirt of the lower earth."

Felix swung his legs out of the hammock and slid his feet into his dry slippers.

He gave the stone tablet a light tap with the toe of his sandal.

The slate didn't budge a millimeter.

"Sturdy stone," Felix remarked, picking up his Infinite Cozy Teacup from the low table. "Decent texture. Would make a good ramp for wheelbarrows too, if we ever need to move extra manure."

He took a slow, leisurely sip of the warm Nine-Sun tea.

*Slurp.*

The 68.5°C liquid warmed his throat, washing away the lingering grogginess of his nap.

He opened his AetherDeck, bringing up his daily quest tab.

Felix scrolled past the notification, tapping the daily login chest on his screen.

He received three minor copper coins and two bags of low-tier birdseed.

"Garbage RNG as usual," Felix grumbled, shaking his head. "Three coppers for a seven-day streak. The devs are getting stingier with every update."

Up in the storm clouds, Herald Ao-Kun stared down at the small human sipping tea.

The mortal hadn't even looked back up at him.

He was clicking a glowing black tablet, completely absorbed in his own trivial business, treating the Herald of the Azure Storm Court like an annoying housefly.

Ao-Kun’s pride flared through the terror, boiling into draconic fury.

"Mortal insolence!" Ao-Kun bellowed, his voice cracking with rage.

"You dare use the Sovereign Mandate as a gutter board?! You dare mock the Azure Dragon King?!"

Ao-Kun threw his head back toward the sky and unleashed a piercing, sonic screech that shattered the surrounding clouds.

"Armies of the Upper Strata!" Ao-Kun howled into the tempest.

"Descend upon this peak! Sunder this mountain into cosmic dust!"

Felix paused, his teacup halfway to his mouth.

He glanced toward the sky, frowning at the loud screeching that was echoing off the valley walls.

"Man," Felix sighed, his brow furrowing in irritation. "Why do high-level zone mobs always yell so loud? Some of us are trying to enjoy our morning tea."
