The Upper Strata did not take long to respond to the herald's call.

Far above the cloud ceiling, the sky darkened from pale morning gray into deep, bruise-colored indigo.

A jagged rip tore through the upper atmosphere, followed by the appearance of a colossal draconic war armada.

Ten thousand storm wyverns descended in tight, swirling spirals through the thunderheads.

Each beast measured forty feet from snout to tail, clad in razor-sharp azure scales that crackled with arcs of wild electrical mana.

Their draconic wings beat the air with rhythmic fury, churning the surrounding mist into a vortex of localized hurricanes.

High above them, Herald Ao-Kun raised his lightning-wrapped foreclaw, pointing down at Solitude Spire with vindictive glee.

"Let the mortal hear the judgment of the Azure Storm Court!" Ao-Kun commanded. "Unleash the Great Sky-Sundering Battle Cry!"

Ten thousand storm wyverns drew breath simultaneously.

Their massive chests swelled, drawing in entire clouds of ionized moisture as their internal thunder sacs glowed with incandescent blue plasma.

Then, they roared.

The combined battle cry was an apocalyptic acoustic catastrophe.

It was designed to shatter mountain ridges, liquefy the internal organs of enemy armies, and collapse mortal soul-palaces across a hundred leagues.

The air warped visibly, sending rippling shockwaves of high-frequency atmospheric pressure racing across the peaks.

Down in the luxury roost, the Thunder Gryphon opened one eye, irritated by the sonic vibration.

It tucked its beak deeper under its wing and let out a grumbling ozone puff.

Out by the garden fence, Lord Nether-Bane dropped his rake and clapped his skeletal hands over his ear-holes, even though he had no eardrums left to burst.

"Insolent sky lizards!" Nether-Bane hissed, his jaw rattling against his skull. "The frequency of that roar is shaking the fine loam loose from the cabbage roots!"

"Have you no respect for topsoil aeration?!"

Beside him, the two spectral corsairs gripped the handles of their wheelbarrows, their ghostly teeth chattering from the violent vibrations.

Up on the covered porch, Barnaby the clockwork owl remained blissfully unbothered.

The black rubber stopper stayed locked between his brass mandibles, and his chronal anchor gear continued ticking at its steady, measured pace.

Beside the cedar table, however, Felix Vance was having a significantly worse morning.

Felix had just lifted his white porcelain Infinite Cozy Teacup to his lips.

He was anticipating a warm, soothing mouthful of Nine-Sun tea at precisely 68.5°C.

Just as the rim touched his teeth, the acoustic shockwave hit the porch.

*Rattle-clink-rattle.*

The violent vibration vibrated the porch floorboards, shaking the low table and sending a sharp tremor through the teacup.

The porcelain bounced against Felix's front teeth.

A single droplet of amber tea splashed over the porcelain lip, landing squarely on his bare wrist.

Felix froze.

He lowered the teacup very slowly.

He looked down at the tiny splash of tea on his skin.

Then, he looked up at the sky, where ten thousand winged reptiles were hovering in tight formation, screeching with all the subtlety of a broken fire siren.

A deep, profound exhaustion washed over his face.

"Are you serious right now?" Felix muttered, wiping his wrist on his hemp sleeve. "What developer thought this audio mixing was acceptable?"

To Felix's gamer sensibilities, this looked far from an awe-inspiring mythical display.

This felt like a classic day-one audio bug.

It was the kind of atrocious sound balancing where ambient weather effects were cranked to two hundred percent, completely drowning out the background music and clipping the player's speakers.

"Ambient thunder turned all the way up," Felix grumbled, shaking his head in disgust. "Zero spatial audio falloff."

"Who coded this weather patch? It’s completely unplayable."

Up in the heavens, Herald Ao-Kun grinned maliciously.

He expected to see the mortal cultivator drop to his knees, clutching his bleeding ears while vomiting blood from shattered meridians.

Instead, Ao-Kun saw the human reach into his pocket with a look of pure, unadulterated annoyance.

Felix pulled out the obsidian AetherDeck.

He thumbed the side dial, flicking past the farming idle menus and the gacha pull screen until he reached the system preferences.

Felix stared at the master volume slider.

"One hundred percent," Felix sighed. "Default settings are always garbage."

With a flick of his thumb, Felix touched the virtual slider.

He dragged it firmly to the left.

The bar contracted.

Eighty percent.

Fifty percent.

Twenty percent.

Zero percent.

Felix tapped the confirm icon.

"That's better," Felix said.

In that exact microsecond, the universe broke.

The ten thousand storm wyverns were still roaring at the absolute top of their lungs.

Their chest cavities were visibly expanding and contracting, their throat sacs glowing with blinding azure fury.

Their draconic jaws were opened wide enough to swallow horses whole.

Yet, from their throats emerged nothing.

Zero sound.

Zero decibels.

Zero acoustic pressure.

The massive, continent-shattering roar simply ceased to exist.

No lingering echoes remained in the mountain passes.

No muffled sound waves leaked through the air.

The fundamental physical concept of sound wave propagation had been completely stripped from the atmosphere across a five-hundred-mile radius.

The wind still blew, but it made no howling noise.

The storm clouds clashed together, but produced zero thunder.

The trees swayed, but their needles rustled in total, supernatural silence.

High above the spire, the wyverns suddenly realized something was terribly wrong.

A wyvern commander snapped his jaws shut, expecting a thunderous crash of teeth.

*Clack.*

Nothing.

He beat his massive leathery wings with all his might.

The resulting hurricane-force gale tore through the sky, but produced not even the softest breeze sound.

Several wyverns began frantically clawing at their own throats, convinced their vocal cords had been severed by an invisible blade.

They turned to look at one another, their glowing yellow eyes filled with rising panic.

They opened their mouths, screaming silently into the void, looking like a swarm of distressed, flapping fish pulled from an ocean of air.

Herald Ao-Kun hovered in the center of the armada, his sapphire horns trembling violently.

He brought his claws to his ears, then struck his chest with enough force to dent dragon scales.

Silence.

Absolute, horrifying, primordial silence.

*The Dao of Sound...* Ao-Kun’s mind screamed in paralyzed terror. *Where did the sound go?!*

*He did not erect a barrier!*

*He did not unleash a counter-frequency!*

*He reached into the fundamental laws of the celestial sky and erased acoustic vibration from reality itself!*

*Sound is the vibration of life! It is the voice of the thunder, the breath of the storm!*

*To sever acoustic propagation across five hundred miles without altering air density or creating a vacuum... this is the Divine Law of Absolute Void!*

Ao-Kun looked down at the tiny mortal on the porch.

Felix was sitting peacefully in his wicker chair, leaning back against the cedar siding.

He raised his white porcelain cup once more.

This time, there was no vibration to rattle the cup.

No thunder to shake the porch boards.

No obnoxious environmental noise to ruin his morning.

Felix took a long, leisurely sip of the hot Nine-Sun tea.

*Slurp.*

To Felix, the tea tasted fantastic.

Because he had toggled the setting locally on his own AetherDeck, his immediate personal space retained perfect, comfortable audio feedback.

He could hear the soft clink of his cup resting on the saucer.

He could hear Barnaby's steady *tick... tick... tick* coming from the brass perch.

He could hear the gentle rustle of his own hemp robes.

Everything outside the porch perimeter, however, was as quiet as a paused YouTube video.

Lyra Ashford stood beside the porch pillar, her hands clasped tightly against her chest, her violet eyes wide with staggering realization.

She looked up at the sky, where ten thousand ancient storm wyverns were flapping their wings in frantic, soundless hysteria.

*Senior Brother did not even raise his head,* Lyra thought, her soul shuddering with profound enlightenment.

*Ten thousand sovereign beasts unleashed the primordial battle cry that once shattered the Void Bastion.*

*An imperial sect would have mobilized three thousand grand elders and five ancestral arrays to withstand such might.*

*Yet Senior Brother merely glanced at his divine slate and adjusted the harmony of heaven.*

*He decreed that their noise was unworthy of existence.*

*So heaven itself held its breath!*

*The True Dao does not scream to prove its supremacy.*

*The True Dao silences all things so that it may drink its morning tea in peace.*

Lyra felt tears of sacred awe welling in her eyes.

She pulled out her jade brush, her fingers trembling as she recorded the moment in her sect chronicles:

*On this day, the Sovereign Vance silenced the roar of ten thousand dragons with the slide of a thumb, declaring the middle heavens a domain of eternal tranquility.*

Down on the flagstones, Felix set his teacup down with a quiet clink.

He pulled up his Inspector HUD to check on the situation overhead.

【Target: Upper Strata Storm Wyvern Vanguard】 【Quantity: 10,000 Flying Units】 【Status: Severe Acoustic Confusion / Throat Fatigue】 【Inspector Note: A swarm of oversized lizards currently experiencing extreme cognitive dissonance after realizing their volume slider has been set to zero. Prolonged silent screeching may result in draconic laryngitis. Harmless so long as they do not drop guano onto the freshly weeded vegetable patch.】

Felix nodded to himself.

"Good," Felix murmured. "Keep it on mute. Devs should make zero percent the default setting for all flying raid encounters."

He picked up a piece of dried melon from the low table and popped it into his mouth.

It was sweet, crisp, and refreshing.

Up in the heavens, the silent panic of the wyvern armada was reaching its breaking point.

Hundreds of wyverns were bumping into each other, unable to hear flight commands or altitude signals.

Formations were breaking.

Chaos was spreading like wildfire through the vanguard.

Herald Ao-Kun grit his teeth so hard a fanged tooth cracked, his draconic eyes bloodshot with helpless humiliation.

"Withdraw!" Ao-Kun tried to bellow, waving his wings frantically in complex aerial sign language.

"Break formation! Do not engage!"

The wyverns understood the gestures immediately.

They turned their tails and began scrambling backward into the high cloud ceiling, desperate to escape the soundless horror of Solitude Spire.

Ao-Kun lingered for a single second, glaring down at the human sipping tea on the porch.

*You think you have won, mortal?!* Ao-Kun thought, his mind burning with draconic rage. *You have merely silenced the vanguard!*

*The Master of the Upper Strata has awakened!*

*The Primordial Sovereign of the Azure Heavens will not be silenced by your void trickery!*

Ao-Kun turned and shot upward into the eye of the swirling hurricane.

High above, deep within the churning heart of the upper troposphere, a colossal silhouette began to uncoil.

This newcomer utterly dwarfed every forty-foot wyvern in the vanguard.

This was a true dragon of the Primordial Era.

Its serpentine body spanned three miles across, shimmering with crackling rings of azure plasma lightning that could incinerate mountain ranges.

The Azure Dragon King, Ignis-Azureus, was descending.

And even in total, absolute silence, the sheer weight of his celestial presence began to crush the sky.
