By early afternoon, the autumn sun sat high in the cloudless skybox.
A gentle breeze whispered through the iron-pines, carrying the faint scent of warm resin.
On the covered porch, Barnaby the clockwork owl remained perched in peaceful, enforced silence.
The thick black rubber stopper Felix had jammed between his brass mandibles held his copper tip firmly clamped shut.
Barnaby’s amber crystal lenses followed Felix’s movements with quiet curiosity, accompanied only by the steady *tick... tick... tick* of his internal chronometer.
Beside the porch railing, the low cedar tea table stood firm, anchored by Grandmaster Vivienne’s purple Sovereign Heart Seal beneath its front leg.
On top of the table, pinned safely beneath the glowing Soul-Pearl paperweight, lay Felix's gacha banner notes.
Right next to them, the white porcelain Infinite Cozy Teacup released a steady curl of steam, its Nine-Sun tea resting at precisely 68.5°C.
Felix leaned back against the porch pillar, finishing the last bite of a cold sesame dumpling.
Down in the garden, Lord Nether-Bane was inspecting the dark soil around the five-star Sun-Lotus Cabbage.
The giant cabbage emitted its customary soothing thermal field, keeping the courtyard at a perfect sixty-nine degrees.
Over by the garden bench, the stacks of Upper Strata Dragon Gold bars had been arranged into neat rows resembling patio pavers.
However, the wooden crates sitting near the porch stairs were still overflowing with Void Amber chunks and Sky-Thunder Cores.
Felix stared at the leftover glowing rocks, scratching the back of his neck.
"Still so much clutter," Felix muttered, pulling his AetherDeck from his pocket.
The screen illuminated with his active quest log.
Felix tapped the quest banner.
"Fifty gacha dust is fifty dust," Felix reasoned. "And if I string these glowing pebbles along the fence, I won't need a candle when walking to the outhouse at midnight."
He reached behind the porch bench and grabbed a spool of hemp rope and a pair of wire cutters.
Felix walked down the porch steps, his straw slippers crunching softly against the gravel.
He stopped beside the first crate and picked up a fist-sized Sky-Thunder Core.
He brought up his Inspector HUD to check the item properties.
【Item: Sky-Thunder Core (Grade 3)】 【Energy Output: Low-Voltage Constant Glow】 【Safety Rating: 100% Insulated】 【Inspector Note: Emits a soft lavender light without generating heat. Practically begs to be hung from patio eaves during summer festivals.】
"Perfect," Felix muttered. "Solar-powered holiday lights with infinite battery life."
Felix began wrapping the rope around the grooves of the thunder cores, tying neat knots around each sphere.
Every three feet along the rope, he alternated between a violet Sky-Thunder Core and a polished chunk of amber resin.
The amber rocks cast a rich, honey-colored radiance, perfectly balancing the cooler violet hue of the electric spheres.
Felix carried the glowing garland toward the whitewashed cedar fence bordering the vegetable garden.
With lazy efficiency, he draped the line along the fence posts, securing the rope with small iron staples.
*Tap. Tap. Tap.*
He moved along the perimeter, humming a relaxed tune.
From the cedar fence, he extended the line across the yard toward the chicken coop.
Inside the luxury roost, the Imperial Thunder Gryphon lay on a thick bed of fresh straw.
Hearing the footsteps, the massive beast opened its golden eyes.
It watched Felix stretch the glowing line across the roost's entrance, fastening three violet cores right above the doorway.
*Chirp?*
The gryphon tilted its head, letting out a soft, questioning rumble.
A tiny, harmless ring of pale violet ozone drifted from its curved beak.
"There you go, bird," Felix said, giving the gryphon’s shoulder a friendly pat. "Now you won't bump your head when you stagger out for water."
The gryphon let out a deep purr of contentment, closing its eyes as the warm amber glow washed over its feathers.
Felix continued stringing the garland along the boundary line, eventually looping the final knot back toward the porch.
He had formed a completely closed circuit encircling Solitude Spire's entire living quarters.
Felix stepped back onto the porch, wiping a speck of dust from his palms.
He picked up his Infinite Cozy Teacup and leaned against the railing to admire the finished setup.
The soft violet and golden lights shimmered gently along the fence line, casting a warm, dreamy glow across the clover lawn.
"Nice," Felix murmured. "Cozy, low glare, and zero flickering. That’s at least an eight out of ten on homestead mood lighting."
What Felix did not realize, however, was the reality of what he had assembled.
Connecting high-density Void Amber with active Sky-Thunder Cores in a continuous closed loop, while situated directly within the passive gravitational field of his stellar core, produced an unintended effect.
The alternating electrical charges of the thunder cores began drawing faint traces of solar fusion energy leaking from his core.
The energy entered the amber resin, exciting the dormant atmospheric storms trapped inside the fossilized sap.
Without any sound, an invisible plane of compressed gravitational force snapped into place.
It rose like a dome from the fence posts, arcing smoothly over the cottage and garden before anchoring into the island's bedrock.
To mortal eyes, it looked like pretty garden fairy lights.
To local space, it was an absolute, multi-layered spatial repulsion grid.
Down in the hot spring trough, the Azure Dragon King and his three elders were still floating in the mineral water.
Elder Ao-Bao blinked, his draconic whiskers twitching frantically as he stared at the cedar fence.
"Your Majesty..." Ao-Bao stammered in a terrified whisper. "Look at the perimeter."
The Dragon King turned his head, his golden slit pupils instantly contracting.
"By the nine heavens..." the Dragon King gasped.
"He did not use array flags," Elder Ao-Jing whispered, his voice trembling. "He simply tied our ancestral thunder cores to common hemp twine with sailor knots!"
"That is no common perimeter," Herald Ao-Kun whimpered. "The thunder cores are alternating polarity with the void amber at an exact golden ratio! The resonance is feeding directly off his sovereign presence!"
"It is a Heaven-Sealing Domain Barrier," the Dragon King breathed, terror gripping his soul. "A barrier constructed from discarded vendor junk and garden rope! If an entire fleet bombarded that fence with siege cannons, the shells would bounce off like dry peas!"
Before the elders could finish their panic, the sky above the archipelago changed.
A sharp, whistling screech tore through the upper cloud layers.
Far above Solitude Spire, a dark tear formed in the high atmosphere.
A rogue iron meteorite five hundred paces wide had slipped out of the Upper Strata's debris belt.
The colossal jagged rock was plummeting through the air at blinding speed.
Friction ignited the asteroid into a roaring ball of crimson fire.
The sheer pressure of its descent pushed a colossal shockwave ahead of it, flattening clouds and casting a blood-red shadow across the peaks.
"Meteorite!" Elder Ao-Bao shrieked, splashing water as he scrambled deeper into the trough. "An Abyssal Iron Meteorite! It has locked onto our altitude!"
"The mass is immense!" Ao-Jing howled, pulling his robes over his head. "If that kinetic strike lands, the entire mountain will be sheared into gravel!"
"Sovereign Vance!" the Dragon King yelled, looking toward the porch in desperate pleading. "A cosmic danger descends!"
Felix was still leaning against the porch railing, calmly sipping his tea.
He glanced up toward the ceiling of clouds.
Through the mist, he saw a glowing orange streak falling rapidly toward the valley.
Felix frowned slightly, adjusting his grip on the porcelain cup.
"Man," Felix sighed. "The weather particle effects on this server are totally unoptimized. Look at that rendering flare. Looks like an oversaturated fireball asset from an old arcade game."
The flaming iron asteroid hurtled directly toward the cottage roof.
It crossed the thousand-foot mark in an instant.
The roaring wind tore through the pine needles outside the fence, howling fiercely.
Then, the burning meteorite struck the invisible boundary line directly above the chicken coop.
There was no deafening explosion.
There was no earth-shattering shockwave.
There was only a crisp, metallic chime that sounded like a silver fork tapping against a crystal glass:
*Ping.*
The Sky-Thunder Cores along the cedar fence flashed with a brief pulse of lavender light.
The Void Amber chunks hummed with a soft golden sheen.
The moment the five-hundred-pace iron meteorite made contact with the fairy lights' spatial plane, its kinetic energy was completely reflected.
The colossal burning asteroid did not shatter.
Instead, like a rubber ball striking a trampoline, the massive rock stopped dead in mid-air and bounced.
*Boing.*
With twice its original speed, the asteroid rocketed straight back up into the heavens.
It cut a clean hole through the dark clouds, leaving behind a glowing spiral of air as it shot out of the atmosphere and vanished into the cold outer void.
Within two seconds, the sky was completely clear again.
The pleasant autumn breeze returned, gently rustling the pine needles.
The lavender and golden lights along the fence continued to glow with their soft, festive warmth.
In the luxury coop, the Thunder Gryphon didn't even lift its head from the straw.
It merely gave a contented snore, blew out a tiny ring of violet ozone, and went back to sleep.
Down in the hot spring trough, the four dragon elders were frozen in petrified silence.
Their mouths hung open.
An extinction-level kinetic impact from an astral iron asteroid had just been deflected by a string of holiday lights.
The mortal hadn't drawn a sword.
He hadn't raised his hand.
He had simply watched it happen while holding his teacup, complaining about visual rendering balance.
"He bounced an astral iron star..." Ao-Bao croaked, his voice barely a squeak. "He bounced it like a child's toy."
"Not even a ripple on the surface of the tea," the Dragon King whispered, his eyes wide with holy terror. "The boundary line absorbed zero shock into the foundation. The spatial elasticity of this array exceeds the supreme ancestral formations of the Dragon Gods."
"And he built it..." Ao-Kun wept softly, clutching his azure robes, "...to give the chicken coop ambient mood lighting."
Up on the porch, Lyra Ashford stood clutching the doorframe, her body trembling with sacred awe.
She pulled out her jade recording slip, her brush moving with lightning speed.
*The Sovereign's festive garland is the true Aegis of the Cosmos,* Lyra wrote, her eyes shining with profound devotion.
*He hung the stars upon a common hemp line, wrapping his sanctuary in the absolute law of reflection.*
*When heaven hurled its wrath in iron and fire, his boundary replied with a gentle chime, casting the calamity back into the abyss.*
*To defend a garden requires only a spool of twine and the Dao of Peace.*
On the porch steps, Felix took another slow sip of his 68.5°C tea.
*Slurp.*
He glanced up at the empty blue sky where the orange streak had vanished.
"Weird audio cue," Felix muttered, shaking his head. "Why did an atmospheric fireball make a pinging sound? The developers really need to patch these sound-effect triggers."
He pulled up his AetherDeck to verify the quest completion.
Felix smiled, pocketing the slate.
"Fifty gacha dust and a lawn chair blueprint," Felix said softly, walking back to his cloud-silk hammock. "Now that’s a decent return on fifteen minutes of chores."
He lay back down, pulled his straw hat over his eyes, and let out a relaxed sigh as the warm fairy lights flickered softly along the fence.
