Chapter 149: The Dragon Eaves Treaty

The rain fell in gentle, steady sheets over Solitude Spire.

Through the new mythic brass downspout, every drop of runoff was drawn into a smooth, silent whirlpool that trickled into the stone rain barrel with musical precision.

*Trickle... splash... trickle...*

The porch remained completely dry, shielded by the clean cedar overhang.

Down on the soggy clover lawn, Patriarch Ao Cang slowly pushed himself up from the mud.

His twenty-foot draconic frame no longer radiated suffocating, apocalyptic killing intent.

The crimson fire in his eyes had softened into a deep, subdued ember of profound enlightenment.

He wiped the mud from his scaled cheeks with the back of a trembling claw.

He looked up at the cottage porch.

He saw the polished brass downspout gleam beneath the rain, effortlessly guiding the tears of heaven into peaceful storage.

He saw his descendants—the three azure flood dragons—lounging happily along the cedar railing, purring with content.

And in the center of it all sat the young mortal in the yellow dragon-scale poncho, comfortably resting his feet on a dry wooden stool while sipping warm tea from an unspillable porcelain cup.

*He is not a mortal,* Ao Cang thought, his soul bowing in total, absolute submission.

*He is a primordial being who existed before the First Epoch.*

*A being for whom our greatest wars, our bloodline grudges, and our ancestral treasures are merely minor inconveniences.*

*He does not conquer through violence.*

*He conquers by effortlessly rewriting reality so that all things find their true, harmonious place.*

Patriarch Ao Cang straightened his broad shoulders, composing himself with the ancient, solemn dignity of the True Dragon Race.

He took three slow, measured steps toward the porch.

At the base of the cedar stairs, he dropped to both knees.

He pressed his massive, horned forehead firmly against the bottom step, bowing so low that his obsidian whiskers touched the damp wood.

"Supreme Celestial Sovereign," Ao Cang spoke, his voice deep, resonant, and stripped entirely of arrogance. "This foolish old serpent was blind. I mistook your boundless cosmic mercy for insolence."

He raised his right claw into the air.

Golden-and-crimson dragon fire flared at the tip of his talon, slicing open the scales of his palm.

From the wound emerged an ancient, rolled scroll woven from celestial kraken-silk and framed in fossilized dragon bone.

Ancient runes of draconic soul-blood crawled across the surface of the parchment, blazing with the authority of the primordial ocean.

The Draconic Soul-Oath of the Deep Trench.

The absolute, unbreakable blood covenant of the True Dragon Clan.

"In the First Era, my ancestors swore that this oath would only ever be presented to the true ruler of the Nine Heavens," Ao Cang proclaimed, holding the burning scroll high with both trembling talons.

"Today, this sovereign presents the eternal allegiance of the Nine Seas! We pledge our bloodlines, our ancestral domains, and our primordial souls to your celestial will for all eternity!"

Lyra Ashford’s breath hitched in her throat.

Her aristocratic composure shattered completely.

*The Draconic Soul-Oath...* Lyra thought, her hands trembling beneath her silver silk sleeves.

*A treaty signed in primordial dragon blood that even the Divine Emperor of the Central Heavens could never obtain!*

*Empires have collapsed chasing a single paragraph of that covenant!*

*Yet Patriarch Ao Cang is offering the entirety of the True Dragon Race... unconditionally... to Senior Brother Vance!*

*The balance of the entire world has shifted forever on these three cedar steps!*

She turned her gaze toward Senior Brother, wondering what grand celestial edict he would proclaim.

Felix Vance reached into his yellow poncho pocket.

His AetherDeck had just buzzed with a short, rhythmic vibration.

*Bzz-bzz.*

"Hold on," Felix said, waving a hand toward the kneeling giant. "System notification coming through."

He unlocked the obsidian glass screen with his thumb.

A standard post-crafting delivery and installation dialog box was waiting for him:

Felix raised an eyebrow at the screen.

His passive Inspector HUD projected a helpful, deadpan breakdown over the floating dialog:

【Contract: Residential Eaves & Gutter Maintenance Agreement】 【Signee: Patriarch Ao Cang & The Scions of the True Dragon Race】 【Terms: 24/7 Gutter Monitoring, Zero Leaf Accumulation, Emergency Hail Deflection】 【Inspector Note: A lifetime residential drainage maintenance warranty. In exchange for zero compensation, ancient apex predators of the primordial ocean will personally inspect your roof seams, blow away stray twigs, and ensure uninterrupted rainwater flow. Felix let out a soft snort.

"Free gutter cleaning included with the hardware?" Felix muttered. "Finally, a developer who understands basic customer convenience. If I had to climb onto that roof every autumn to shovel wet leaves out of the gutters, I would've lost my mind."

He swiped his index finger across the blank line on the screen, scribbling a casual, wavy squiggle.

Then, he tapped the glowing button:

`[ CONFIRM & SIGN ]`

*Ding!*

A crisp, cheerful digital chime chimed from the AetherDeck.

Instantly, a pillar of pure, golden celestial light shot out from the obsidian slate!

The light did not destroy; it radiated an aura of absolute cosmic authority that washed over Solitude Spire.

The golden beam struck the floating Draconic Soul-Oath scroll hovering before Ao Cang.

*FLASH!*

The ancient parchment absorbed the light, bursting into a brilliant halo of golden flames before dissolving into millions of tiny, glowing dragon runes.

The runes swept across the cottage roofline, embedding themselves permanently into the cedar eaves, the wooden rafters, and the three brass brackets holding the mythic downspout.

A faint, golden seal shaped like a dragon coiled around a cedar tile pulsed three times along the roof's edge before fading into the wood.

The Draconic Soul-Oath had been accepted and bound directly into the fabric of the sanctuary.

Patriarch Ao Cang felt an ancient, golden chain of cosmic karma settle deep within his dragon core.

It wasn't a chain of slavery; it was an anchor of absolute, divine protection.

As long as the eaves of this cottage stood, his clan would be shielded beneath the unfathomable umbrella of the Master's Dao!

Ao Cang looked up, his eyes shining with profound devotion.

"Master!" Ao Cang choked out, pressing his forehead against the step once more. "Command us! Shall we march upon the Central Continent? Shall we flood the astral realms? Shall we dredge the deep trenches for lost stellar treasures?!"

Felix looked at the twenty-foot giant, thoroughly perplexed.

He rested his forearms on the cedar railing and leaned forward.

"What are you talking about?" Felix said flatly. "Did you not read the contract?"

Ao Cang blinked through his tears. "The... the contract, Master?"

"Yeah, the maintenance agreement," Felix said, pointing up toward the cedar roofline. "Look, your job is very simple. Keep the gutters clear of dead leaves, pine needles, and moss."

Felix pointed directly at the mouth of the new brass downspout.

"Don't let anything clog the pipe," Felix emphasized. "If the water backs up and starts splashing over the edge of the porch again, I'm canceling the service contract and leaving a one-star review. Got it?"

Ao Cang’s heart hammered against his ribs.

*The gutters...*

*The downspout...*

*The Master has entrusted the True Dragon Race with the most sacred task in the cosmos!*

*To guard the divine conduit through which the tears of heaven flow into the earthly realm!*

*He does not care for mortal empires or blood-soaked treasures.*

*He has appointed us as the Sacred Guardians of the Eaves!*

*To ensure that zero earthly filth interrupts the pure, harmonious flow of the Dao!*

Ao Cang’s entire body trembled with immense, overwhelming honor.

"THIS SERVANT ACCEPTS THE SACRED CHARGE!" Ao Cang bellowed, tears of spiritual ecstasy streaming down his scales. "ZERO PINE NEEDLES SHALL DEFILE THE SACRED SPOUT! WE SHALL GUARD THE EAVES WITH OUR IMMORTAL LIVES!"

With a majestic, golden flash of light, Patriarch Ao Cang’s colossal twenty-foot frame compressed itself.

His scales smoothed, his horns shrank, and his body elongated into a sleek, eight-foot-long dragon of polished obsidian and gold.

He rose gracefully into the autumn drizzle, circling the cottage roof in a silent, fluid arc.

He landed neatly along the western ridge of the roof, right above the brass downspout.

His obsidian claws gripped the cedar shingles with feather-light precision, not displacing a single tile.

Beside him, the three azure flood dragons slithered up from the porch railing, taking their positions along the northern, eastern, and southern eaves.

The little emerald wyrm scampered up the corner post, perching happily right above the gutter entrance.

Whenever a stray pine needle drifted down from the ancient iron-pines overhead, Patriarch Ao Cang would release a gentle, warm puff of draconic breeze from his nostrils:

*Whoosh.*

The stray needle was instantly deflected away from the roof, fluttering harmlessly down into the garden compost bin.

The gutters remained spotless.

The water flowed down the mythic brass downspout without a single hitch, trickling peacefully into the barrel.

*Trickle... splash... trickle...*

Felix watched the dragons bustling along the roofline, nodding in approval.

"Now that's what I call automated base maintenance," Felix said, thoroughly satisfied. "Zero labor, zero maintenance fees, and pristine gutters. Five stars."

He turned back to his wooden recliner and sank into the cushions.

Up on his brass perch, Barnaby the clockwork owl watched the four dragons patrolling the roof with wide, glowing amber lenses.

The black rubber stopper remained firmly locked between his brass mandibles, holding the copper tip in place.

Inside his chest, his gears ticked with a slow, hypnotized rhythm:

*Tick... tick... tick...*

The owl had calculated eighty-four thousand different scenarios for how an encounter with an ancient dragon patriarch would end.

Zero scenarios involved the patriarch becoming a glorified roof squeegee.

Lyra Ashford stood beside the tea table, staring up at the obsidian dragon coiled peacefully along the ridge.

*The Dragon Eaves Treaty,* Lyra thought, her soul weeping in pure, boundless enlightenment.

*A hundred thousand years of hatred, war, and pride... resolved without a single drawn blade.*

*He did not defeat the dragons.*

*He gave them a home.*

*He gave them purpose.*

*He taught them that the highest honor in the universe is not to conquer the heavens... but to keep the rain from disturbing a peaceful porch.*

Lyra bowed deeply toward Felix, her voice trembling with sacred reverie:

"Senior Brother Vance... your wisdom encompasses all creation."

Felix reached out, picked up his Infinite Cozy Teacup, and took a warm sip of tea.

"Thanks," Felix muttered. "I just really hate wet slippers."
