Chapter 165: The High-Gravity Radish Fermentation

Late afternoon arrived over Solitude Spire in long, amber sheets of fading sunlight.

High above the mountain canyon, the three Western dreadnoughts hung quietly in the skybox, their decks spotless from hours of draconic lye scrubbing.

Between their towering prows, Felix Vance’s laundry fluttered gently, completely dry and smelling pleasantly of clean mountain air.

Down on the cottage porch, Felix pushed himself up from his wooden recliner.

His 1.0-Earth-Mass stellar core hummed in his dantian with a warm, steady glow, its companion white dwarf providing its usual soothing lower-back vibration.

Beside his chair, the white porcelain Infinite Cozy Teacup rested securely atop its pale-green celadon saucer.

Under the front left leg of the table, Grandmaster Vivienne's purple Sovereign Heart Seal held the heavy timber completely motionless.

Beside his armrest, the glowing Soul-Pearl paperweight held down his evening farm notes.

On the brass perch, Barnaby the clockwork owl stood at silent attention, the black rubber stopper clamped tight between his mandibles:

*Tick... tick... tock.*

Felix rubbed his stomach, feeling a sudden, hollow rumble in his lower abdomen.

"Nap is over," Felix announced to the empty porch. "Stamina bar is full, but hunger meter is flashing red. Time for dinner."

He strolled into the kitchen, ladled a steaming bowl of fluffy white rice from the cast-iron pot, and brought it back outside.

Rice was good, but it lacked texture.

Felix craved something sharp, savory, and aggressively crunchy to cut through the starch.

He walked down the porch steps and headed toward the garden shed.

Near the compost beds, Lord Nether-Bane and his two spectral corsairs were stacking freshly harvested root vegetables into wooden crates.

The former Ghost King wiped his bony forehead with the hem of his clean hemp apron, bowing low.

"Good evening, Milord! The harvest from the third terrace is complete. Twelve bushels of five-star Sun-Lotus Radishes, crisp as winter frost and bursting with solar nectar!"

Felix looked into the wooden crate.

The radishes were plump, pristine, and radiating a faint, warm golden shimmer.

"Radishes," Felix mused, nodding with approval. "We’re making pickles."

Nether-Bane clacked his jaw enthusiastically. "An ancient pickled delicacy! Allow me to prepare the ceramic fermentation crocks, Milord. I shall mix the coarse rock salt, wild mountain garlic, and red chili flakes immediately!"

"How long does the traditional recipe take to cure?" Felix asked casually.

Nether-Bane paused, stroking his skeletal chin. "Under proper cellar conditions, pressed beneath a two-hundred-pound granite river stone... roughly three to four weeks for optimal lacto-fermentation."

Felix stared at the skeleton in utter disbelief.

"Three to four weeks?" Felix repeated, his tone flat and horrified. "That’s nearly a month. That’s twenty-eight daily login cycles just for a side dish. Who has that kind of attention span?"

"Uh... traditional alchemical curing takes time, Milord," Nether-Bane stammered.

"Unacceptable," Felix said firmly. "There has to be a fast-forward toggle."

He pulled the brass-cased AetherDeck from his yellow poncho.

He opened *Pocket Garden: Cozy Harvest*, tapped the pantry management tab, and navigated to the artisanal food processing menu:

DEV CONSOLE
STANDALONE HOST
[AETHERDECK OS: POCKET GARDEN - FOOD PROCESSING]
Selected Recipe: Crisp Sun-Radish Pickle Crock (3 Gallons)
Ingredients: 20x Sun-Radishes, Coarse Salt, Garlic, Chili
Standard Fermentation Duration: 21 Days
[ACCELERATED FERMENTATION MOD DETECTED]:
• High-Gravity Molecular Injection
• Target: Companion White Dwarf Gravity Focus
• Surface Pressure: 500G Hyper-Baric Field
• Process: Instant Capillary Brine Infusion
• Accelerated Duration: 12 Seconds
Execute 500G High-Gravity Pickle Cure? [YES / NO]

Felix’s eyes lit up with profound gamer satisfaction.

"Twelve seconds versus three weeks," Felix said. "Now that is what I call proper game optimization."

Felix tapped `[YES]`.

He grabbed a heavy brown earthenware crock from the tool shed, washed it quickly in the rain barrel, and began chopping radishes.

With a kitchen knife, he sliced the crisp white roots into thick, bite-sized cubes.

He tossed the radish cubes into the crock, dumped in three handfuls of coarse gray sea salt, four crushed garlic cloves, a handful of dried red chili flakes, and half a cup of aged rice vinegar.

He gave the mixture a brisk stir with a wooden spoon.

Then, he placed a flat ceramic pressing plate directly on top of the vegetables.

"Nether-Bane," Felix instructed. "Step back about five paces. I’m activating the gravity focus."

"Standing clear, Milord!" Nether-Bane said, scurrying behind the tool shed with his rake.

Felix set the earthenware crock down on a flat granite paving stone in the center of the yard.

He stepped back, unlocked his AetherDeck, and selected the gravitational focus toggle.

Deep within his lower abdomen, the tiny, dense white dwarf core orbiting his central sun shifted into alignment.

A localized, micro-focused gravitational beam projected from Felix’s dantian, anchoring directly onto the ceramic plate inside the brown crock.

*VZZZZT.*

The air above the crock warped into a shimmering optical lens.

Five hundred times Earth's normal gravity slammed downward onto the pressing plate with absolute, surgical precision.

Under normal circumstances, five hundred gravities would crush an earthenware crock into a puddle of microscopic dust.

However, the AetherDeck’s physics engine held the outer shell of the jar in localized stasis, directing the entire 500G crushing force purely into the ceramic pressing plate.

Inside the jar, the physics of food preservation broke down and reconstructed themselves at lightspeed.

The cellular walls of the radish cubes did not rupture into mush.

Instead, under five hundred atmospheres of relentless gravitational pressure, the moisture inside the radish fibers was instantly forced outward, while the salty vinegar brine and red chili oils were driven directly into the plant's core capillaries.

The organic sugars and solar qi within the radishes crystallized under the immense pressure, hardening into an ultra-dense, semi-translucent matrix.

*Ping.*

The twelve-second timer on the AetherDeck flashed green:

DEV CONSOLE
STANDALONE HOST
[AETHERDECK OS: FERMENTATION COMPLETE]
Result: 500G High-Gravity Sun-Pickle Jewels (3 Gallons)
Texture Matrix: Diamond-Grade Hyper-Crystalline Snap
Aging Simulated: 3 Years in Heavy Oak Casks
Flavor Profile: Deep Umami, Spicy Tang, Solar Sweetness
Acoustic Rating: 120 Decibels [SUPERSONIC CRUNCH]

Felix dismissed the gravity field.

The shimmering air settled back to normal.

Felix walked over and peered into the earthenware crock.

His passive Inspector HUD popped up with an enthusiastic breakdown:

【Item: 500G Sun-Pickle Jewels】 【Grade: Primordial Solar Elixir (Disguised as Pickled Radish)】 【Acoustic Resonance: 120 Decibels (Supersonic Bite)】 【Inspector Note: Cured under 500 times normal gravity. The radish fibers have compressed into solid diamond-grade crystalline crunch. Eating one produces an acoustic shockwave capable of dispelling lower demons and alerting neighbors three valleys over. Pairs excellently with plain white rice.】

"Look at that color," Felix muttered, his eyes widening slightly.

The radish cubes were no longer dull white.

They had transformed into glowing, translucent amber gemstones, glittering beneath the evening sun like carved topaz.

The brine was thick, golden, and shimmering with microscopic specks of red chili oil.

An aroma billowed out from the jar that was so intoxicatingly savory, tangy, and rich with roasted garlic that Nether-Bane’s ghostly eyes spun in their sockets.

"By the Abyssal Void..." Nether-Bane whimpered, sniffing the air from behind the tool shed. "That smell... it carries the concentrated soul of three centuries of harvest!"

Felix took a pair of bamboo chopsticks from his pocket.

He reached into the jar, picked up a single golden radish cube, and brought it to his mouth.

He took a bite.

*KRA-BOOM!*

The sound was not an ordinary vegetable crunch.

It was a sharp, concussive, acoustic detonation that cracked through the evening air like a lightning strike hitting a brass bell!

A visible ring of golden acoustic shockwaves blasted outward from Felix’s teeth, rippling through the garden clover and vibrating the cedar porch railing!

*Snap-crunch-crackle!*

The crunch resonated with terrifying, crystal-clear acoustic clarity, echoing off the granite cliffs of Solitude Spire and rolling across the three-mile chasm toward the rest of the academy!

***

Three miles away, on the flight deck of the *Iron Behemoth*, Admiral Vane and sixty imperial marines dropped their scrub brushes, clutching their chests in terror.

"What was that?!" the flagship battle-mage screamed, his knees shaking. "A spatial fissure?! A ninth-tier lightning tribulation?!"

Admiral Vane stared across the chasm toward Solitude Spire, his weathered face pale as chalk. "The sound... it was the snapping of a dimensional barrier! The Sovereign has cracked open a primordial seal!"

Meanwhile, atop the First Spire, inside the academy medical wing, Chancellor Valen had just regained consciousness after his scrying collapse.

Elder Yun was gently holding a cup of calming ginseng tea to Valen’s lips.

"Easy, Chancellor," Elder Yun murmured soothingly. "Breathe deeply. The crisis is past. Senior Brother Vance was merely hanging laundry."

Valen let out a weak, tremulous sigh. "Yes... laundry... merely laundry... I am well, brother. My mind has returned to peace—"

*KRA-BOOM!*

The acoustic sonic boom struck the First Spire’s stained-glass windows, rattling the lead frames so violently that dust showered down from the rafters!

Chancellor Valen gasped, choked on his ginseng tea, and sat bolt upright in bed with his eyes bulging.

"The Tribulation Bell!" Valen shrieked, his voice climbing to a deafening pitch. "He is shattering the firmament! Senior Brother has devoured the heart of an ancient dragon! Sound the retreat! Abandon the spire!"

"Chancellor, lie down!" Elder Yun yelled, tackling the hysterical administrator back into his pillows. "Someone bring more smelling salts! The Chancellor's soul is destabilizing again!"

Across the Blade Spire, hundreds of elite sword disciples who were meditating in the open courtyard found their spirit blades humming in resonant vibration.

They scrambled to their feet, bowing toward Solitude Spire in breathless awe.

"Did you hear the Heavenly Crack?" a senior disciple whispered, his voice trembling. "Senior Brother Vance has achieved the Great Crystalline Enlightenment! His Dao resonates like thunder through the Nine Heavens!"

***

Back on the porch of the Seventh Spire, Lyra Ashford stood by the wooden table, holding a fresh pot of roasted barley tea.

She stared down at Felix Vance in absolute, frozen reverence.

She had watched him place the jar over the white dwarf gravity focus.

She had watched the air bend under 500 gravities.

And she had heard the world-shattering sonic crack of his teeth snapping through the golden cube.

*He compressed the weight of a dying star into pickled vegetables,* Lyra thought, her soul shuddering with overwhelming enlightenment.

*To the mortal eye, he is merely eating a snack with his rice.*

*Yet every bite releases an acoustic shockwave of pure, unadulterated gravitational intent! He is testing the vibrational resonance of the continent with every chew!*

*He conquers armadas in his pajamas, and he tempers the fabric of space-time over a bowl of pickles!*

She bowed low, her voice quivering with profound respect. "Senior Brother... your Primordial Thunder-Cure is breathtaking. The entire archipelago has heard the judgment of your teeth."

Felix Vance, who was currently chewing through a second golden radish cube, paused.

*Crunch.*

Another crisp, satisfying snap echoed softly across the porch, though this one was muffled by his cheeks.

He looked at Lyra, then looked down at his bowl of plain white rice.

"Judgment of my teeth?" Felix mumbled, swallowing the savory, spicy radish with a deep, content sigh. "Lyra, it's just pickled radish. The salt balance is actually pretty decent."

He scooped up a large mouthful of rice and chased it with another golden pickle jewel.

"Though honestly," Felix added, tapping his chopsticks against the bowl, "the acoustic volume on these things is absurd. The developers definitely forgot to balance the sound effects. My ears are ringing."

He swallowed the rice, reached over to his celadon saucer, and picked up his Infinite Cozy Teacup.

*Slurp.*

The roasted barley tea washed down the spicy chili oil at a perfect 68.5°C.

Underneath the table, the Sovereign Heart Seal held the floor rigid.

Beside his elbow, the Soul-Pearl kept his notes in place.

On the perch, Barnaby’s rubber stopper kept the clockwork owl completely silent, ticking in quiet harmony with the evening crickets.

And up in the twilight sky, three eight-hundred-foot dreadnoughts hung like peaceful iron lanterns, while four ancient dragons watched over the laundry lines.

Felix Vance leaned back in his wooden recliner, pulled his yellow dragon-scale poncho over his chest, and smiled softly into the evening breeze.

"Good food, quiet porch, and zero lag," Felix whispered, closing his eyes. "Now this... this is peak idle gameplay."

And with a quiet, satisfied sigh, the master of Solitude Spire drifted off into his evening nap.
