Chapter 211: The Cosmic Dust Bunny

The morning routine of an idle gamer is sacred, delicate, and entirely dependent upon low network latency.

Felix Vance adjusted his straw hat, yawning as he stretched his arms toward the stars.

Thirty miles above the rolling green hills of Aethelgard, the geostationary wicker recliner hovered in complete silence.

The cosmic void stretched out in every direction, an endless ocean of ink sparkling with cold diamonds.

Yet within the five-yard comfort bubble sustained by Felix's Level 60 accretion disk, the air was seventy degrees Fahrenheit, softly perfumed with mountain cedar, and pleasantly humid.

Felix picked up the AetherDeck from his chest to collect his automated morning quest rewards.

A tiny yellow exclamation mark flickered in the upper-right corner of the glass screen.

Felix frowned, his eyebrows knitting in mild irritation.

"What now?" Felix muttered under his breath. "Did the macro crash?"

He tapped the flashing icon.

A diagnostic interface snapped open with clean, crisp lines:

[1. DISMISS] [2. AUTO-CLEAN] [3. OK]

Felix clicked [2. AUTO-CLEAN].

A dull buzz vibrated through the console.

`Error: Robotic vacuum unit not unlocked. Manual labor required.`

Felix let out a heavy, suffering sigh that could have parted oceans.

"Fourteen point eight milliseconds," Felix grumbled, glaring at the number as if it were a personal insult. "Two whole milliseconds of input lag. If I play any rhythm mini-games today, my timing will be completely ruined."

He twisted in his wicker chair, looking behind him.

Mounted on the cedar back rail of the recliner, the six-foot copper parabolic dish gleamed in the sunlight.

On the shiny concave surface, a thin coating of grey, powdery matter was clinging to the metal.

It was cosmic dust.

Microscopic grains of comet residue, stellar ash, and solar wind silica had drifted into the local gravitational well of his white dwarf companion core, settling onto the warm copper like pollen on a windowsill.

Right in the center of the collector horn, a fluffy clump of stellar grit had rolled into a ball the size of a peach.

It looked remarkably like a dust bunny under a college student's bed.

"A cosmic dust bunny," Felix muttered, shaking his head. "You can travel thirty miles into orbital space, and you still can't escape routine household chores."

Felix reached behind the base of his wicker chair.

Tucked into the side pocket of the woven frame was an old, wooden-handled goose-feather duster.

He had grabbed it from the broom closet on Solitude Spire three days ago when Nether-Bane was sweeping the front steps, intending to use the soft feathers to dust the AetherDeck's screen.

He weighed the duster in his palm.

An Inspector HUD tooltip materialized above the wooden handle:

【Item: Humble Goose-Feather Duster】 【Material: Domestic Grey Goose Down, Varnished Pine Handle】 【Condition: Slightly frayed at the tip, smells faintly of lavender wax】 【Inspector Note: A mundane household tool designed for sweeping cobwebs off ceiling rafters. Currently wielded by an orbital cosmic entity sitting thirty miles above the stratosphere. To mortal stargazers below, this looks like the legendary Nine-Phoenix Celestial Whisk capable of sweeping away galaxies. Highly recommended to shake out the feathers before sneezing.】

Felix snorted, swinging the duster through the air with a casual flick of his wrist.

"It is just a duster," Felix said aloud. "No need to get dramatic."

He sat up slightly on the linen cushion.

He did not want to stand up.

Standing up required engaging his core muscles, which ran contrary to his entire life philosophy.

Instead, Felix leaned over the left armrest of the recliner, extending his right arm as far as it would reach.

He stretched the goose-feather duster toward the copper dish.

The tip of the soft grey feathers crossed the boundary of his personal five-yard atmospheric bubble, entering the hard vacuum of deep space.

In normal astrophysics, a goose feather exposed to vacuum should have flash-frozen into brittle ice or degraded instantly under solar radiation.

Within the dense gravitational field of Felix's Level 60 white dwarf core, however, every atom of the feather duster was saturated with relativistic stability.

The feathers remained supple, soft, and completely undisturbed by the absolute zero temperatures.

*Swish.*

Felix lightly tapped the center of the copper dish with the feathers.

*Swish. Swish.*

A cloud of grey cosmic dust dislodged from the reflective surface, floating into the vacuum like glittering silver powder.

Down on the surface of Aethelgard, the morning sky was clear and bright.

At the Astral Observatory of the Radiant Dawn Academy, sixty senior astrologers were peering through their long brass telescopes, monitoring the newly consecrated Dyson Ring.

Chancellor Valen stood in the center of the observation dome, hands clasped behind his back, basking in the steady stream of golden mana.

Suddenly, an apprentice astrologer at the primary aperture fell backward off his wooden stool, screaming in sheer terror.

"Chancellor! The Sovereign is moving!" the apprentice shrieked.

Valen sprinted to the master telescope, shoving the boy aside and pressing his right eye against the polished crystal lens.

Through the eighty-fold magnification array, Valen saw the geostationary wicker recliner floating amidst the sea of stars.

He saw the Lord of Solitude lean sideways.

He saw a divine instrument extend from the Sovereign's celestial sleeve.

It was a rod of ancient wood, tipped with what appeared to be the iridescent plumage of ninety-nine primordial thunderbirds.

"The Nine-Phoenix Celestial Whisk..." Valen whispered in trembling awe, his voice echoing through the silent observatory dome. "The sacred weapon of universal purification mentioned in the forbidden pre-stellar scriptures!"

Behind him, Vice-Chancellor Morgana rushed forward with an astral slate.

"Chancellor, what is he doing?" Morgana asked breathlessly. "Is he warding off an astral demon? Is an ancient void titan approaching our realm?"

Through the lens, Valen watched as the celestial whisk gently brushed against the golden halo of the parabolic dish.

*Flick.*

From the tip of the whisk, a burst of radiant silver stardust erupted into the cosmic void.

To the astrologers below, it did not look like common dust.

It looked like the birth of a miniature spiral galaxy, shedding billions of luminous sparks across the orbital heavens.

"Look at the divine precision!" Valen wept, clutching the brass telescope tube. "He is cleansing the celestial meridians of the Great Sun Array! The impurities of the mortal void are being scattered into stardust by his sacred hand!"

"Record this!" Morgana screamed to thirty scribes. "Every brushstroke of the Phoenix Whisk aligns with the thirty-six heavenly stems! The Sovereign is conducting an ancient liturgy of cosmic purification!"

Just two miles to the starboard side of Felix's recliner, Grand Marshal Vane-Talon stood stiffly on the bridge of the Imperial Flagship Moonlet.

The dreadnought's astral sensors sounded a frantic, melodic chime.

"Grand Marshal!" the sensor officer gasped, his hands trembling over the brass telemetry panel. "The Sovereign's whisk! A microscopic disturbance from its bristles just dispersed an accumulated cloud of void static that was jamming our long-range communication arrays!"

"Naturally," Vane-Talon replied gravely, smoothing his white mustache. "The Lord of Solitude does not tolerate celestial untidiness. Signal all one hundred and eight moonlets. Clean your exterior sensor lenses immediately. If the Supreme Architect sees fit to sweep the cosmos, the least we can do is wipe down our own bulkheads."

Up in the orbital void, Felix Vance gave the feather duster two more brisk flicks.

"Shoo. Get off," Felix muttered, blowing a puff of air from his mouth.

A particularly stubborn clump of stellar dust was stuck to the brass bolts holding the parabolic horn.

Felix swung the feather duster with a little more vigor, giving the rim of the dish a firm, sweeping backhand flick.

*SWISH.*

A localized shockwave of displaced gravity rippled through the vacuum.

The stubborn cosmic dust bunny finally surrendered, breaking apart and shooting into empty space like a tiny silver comet.

As the silver dust cascaded downward toward the Seventh Spire, it drifted into the lower atmosphere like a shower of glittering diamond snowflakes.

Down on the cedar porch, Lord Nether-Bane grabbed an empty wooden cabbage crate and scurried across the yard.

"Hold that pail, Mistress Lyra!" Nether-Bane chuckled, his skeleton fingers rattling against the cedar slats. "The Master is shaking out his duster! Catch every flake of that celestial dandruff! It does wonders for the turnip root rot!"

Lyra held out a copper basin, watching with reverence as the sparkling stardust settled into the water, turning it into liquid moonlight.

"Even the refuse of his housekeeping brings salvation to the earth," Lyra whispered softly.

Up in his geostationary chair, Felix inspected the copper dish.

It was spotless, gleaming under the golden light of the Dyson Ring like a polished mirror.

He brought the feather duster back inside his atmospheric bubble, giving it a gentle shake over the edge of the recliner.

A faint chime rang out from the AetherDeck on his lap:

[1. BUY UPGRADE (500 XP)] [2. SWEEP MANUALLY (FREE)]

Felix looked at the upgrade price and immediately tapped [2. SWEEP MANUALLY (FREE)].

"Five hundred XP for a virtual vacuum cleaner?" Felix scoffed, shaking his head. "What a rip-off. A real gamer saves his currency for core upgrades. I can flick a feather duster once every three days for free."

He tucked the goose-feather duster securely into the side pocket of the woven wicker chair.

"Eleven point nine milliseconds," Felix said with great satisfaction, resting his hands over his stomach. "Now that is what I call high-speed connectivity."

Beside his feet, Barnaby the clockwork owl let out a rhythmic series of soft clicks, nodding his brass head in agreement.

Outside the invisible bubble, the three Abyssal Star-Whales swam in lazy loops, humming their twenty-two hertz song as if singing a lullaby for the master of the sky.

Felix leaned back against his linen pillow, crossing his legs comfortably.

"Housework is exhausting," Felix yawned, his eyelids fluttering shut. "Time for a well-earned three-hour nap."

And as Felix Vance drifted into peaceful sleep, seventy mortal academies below finished their emergency treatises on the Celestial Whisk of Supreme Purification.
