Chapter 057: Planting the Golden Radishes

Felix Vance stood up from the kitchen table and stretched his arms until his spine gave three satisfying pops.

Beneath his slippers, the floorboards stayed rock solid.

The Sovereign Heart Seal remained tucked under the uneven table leg, faithfully glowing with faint violet energy. Felix gave the table a firm nudge with his hip. It didn't wobble by a millimeter.

"Best table shim in the world," Felix muttered.

He picked up the coarse burlap pouch containing the five golden radish seeds.

On the kitchen counter, the AetherDeck hummed softly. Felix scooped up the brass slate, unlocked the screen with his thumb, and tapped the icon for *Pocket Garden: Cozy Harvest*.

The screen shifted into a bright, pixelated grid showing a miniature version of his front yard:

Ambient Temperature: 71°F (Stable Micro-Climate)
Growth Speed Modifier: +250% (Proximity to Sun-Lotus)
[1. AUTO-SOW ALL SEEDS] [2. VIEW HARVEST TIMERS]

Felix scratched his chin.

"Two hundred and fifty percent growth speed," he said to himself. "If I plant these now, they'll harvest before the weekend. That's free experience points for zero active effort."

He tucked the slate into his tunic pocket, picked up an old rusted iron garden trowel from the tool bucket by the door, and pushed through the screen.

The cedar porch smelled of sun-dried pine needles and mountain breeze.

On the cedar railing, Barnaby the clockwork owl did not move an inch.

The thick black rubber stopper sat jammed firmly between his polished brass mandibles, sealing off his vocal apparatus. His amber crystal eyes narrowed into two slits of cold suspicion as Felix walked past. In his left brass talon, Barnaby still held his copper coin, gripping it so tightly the metal had begun to take the curve of his claws.

"Morning, Barnaby," Felix said, tapping the bird's brass forehead with the flat of the trowel. "Keep up the good work. Silence is golden, but copper pays the bills."

Barnaby made a faint, muffled clicking sound deep inside his internal gear train.

His clockwork neck clicked three times, swiveling his head slightly to follow Felix down the wooden porch steps. If looks could incinerate wood, Felix's hemp shorts would have been reduced to white ash.

In the overgrown yard, the Thunder Gryphon had already rolled onto its belly.

The massive beast looked like an oversized barn cat sunning itself on warm flagstones. Its golden feathers gleamed in the sunlight, and its eagle beak rested lazily on its crossed front paws. When it heard Felix’s canvas slippers swishing through the clover, its tufted ears twitched forward.

*Rumble.*

A low purr vibrated through the creature's chest, sounding like a distant thunderstorm rolling over the horizon.

"Hey there, buddy," Felix said, walking over to the small cleared garden patch beside the porch. "Don't get up. Just doing some light farm chores."

The Sun-Lotus Cabbage stood at the center of the patch, its layered golden leaves spread wide like a blooming sunflower.

The ambient warmth coming off the cabbage felt like standing near an open bakery oven. The air around the plant was clear and sweet, keeping all garden pests and biting flies twenty yards away.

Lyra Ashford walked down the porch steps with silent, measured grace.

She stopped three paces behind Felix, folding her hands inside her white-and-silver silk sleeves. Her eyes followed the rusted garden trowel in Felix's hand with intense, breathless scrutiny.

"Senior Brother," Lyra said softly, her tone hushed with reverence. "Are you... preparing to initiate the Sacred Sowing Ceremony?"

"I'm planting five radishes, Lyra," Felix said, kneeling down on a patch of soft clover. "Nothing sacred about it. The game gave me free seeds, and it's stupid to let daily farming energy cap out."

Lyra’s pupils constricted.

*The Sacred Sowing of the Five Elements...* she thought, her internal voice trembling. *Senior Brother claims it is merely a daily chore, yet he holds the Primordial Golden Seeds plundered from the First Emperor's Vault! He does not allow heavenly providence to remain idle! Every breath he takes aligns the cycles of nature!*

Felix stuck the tip of the rusted trowel into the dark earth.

The soil was remarkably rich, loose, and dark. He dug five small, evenly spaced holes in a neat row parallel to the glowing cabbage. Each hole was about three inches deep.

"Good dirt," Felix commented, crumbling a handful between his fingers. "Drainage looks solid. Not too much clay."

The Thunder Gryphon stretched its feathered wings, letting out a soft bird-like chirrup.

It stood up on all four paws, shook its golden lion mane, and trotted over to the garden bed. The beast stood nine feet tall at the shoulder, but it approached Felix with the delicate care of a kitten stepping around porcelain bowls.

It lowered its massive eagle head, resting its beak gently on the edge of the freshly turned earth.

"Whoa, easy," Felix warned, patting the griffin’s warm feathered cheek. "Watch the paws. Don't step on the rows. I just dug those."

The gryphon let out a soft huff.

Instead of moving away, the creature opened its curved beak slightly. A steady, gentle draft of warm air flowed out over the garden plot.

The draft was filled with faint crackles of pale-blue static electricity.

It smelled of clean ozone, summer rain, and warm river sand. The static sparks rolled across the open holes in the soil, dancing through the dark dirt without scorching a single speck of loam. The subterranean ground temperature rose instantly, warming the soil bed to an ideal seventy-eight degrees.

Felix blinked in pleasant surprise.

"Well look at that," Felix said, grinning. "You're a natural greenhouse fan. That saves me from having to lay down black plastic mulch to heat the root bed. Good boy."

He reached out and scratched the griffin right under its feathered chin.

The great war beast closed its eyes in sheer ecstasy, leaning its massive head into Felix's hand. Its long lion tail thumped against the grass, kicking up tiny showers of golden pollen.

Behind them, Lyra Ashford felt the spiritual blood in her veins freeze in terror.

*Heavenly Thunder Breath...* she screamed internally, her knuckles turning white within her sleeves. *The Thunder Gryphon is an ancient apex beast of the Seventh Rank! Its breath is known as the Purple Cloud Lightning Tribulation, capable of vaporizing an armored mountain fortress in a single roar!*

*And Senior Brother is using the beast's divine tribulation flame... to pre-heat the garden dirt like an oven!*

Lyra’s breath caught in her throat as she watched Felix reach into the burlap pouch.

He took out the first golden seed.

To the naked eye, the seed looked like a fat yellow grain of corn. But beneath the surface, Lyra could sense the terrifying concentration of astral energy trapped inside the husk. It contained the pure essence of ancient solar fire, condensed across ten thousand years within the imperial stasis vault.

Felix dropped the first seed into the warmed soil.

*Plop.*

Then he dropped the second, third, fourth, and fifth seeds into their respective holes, spacing them exactly four inches apart.

As the fifth seed settled into the earth, a deep, silent pulse resonated through Solitude Spire.

Deep within Felix’s chest, the **2.0-Earth-Mass terrestrial core** gave a lazy, involuntary turn.

Two full planetary masses of gravitational weight settled into the bedrock. An invisible shockwave of dense gravitational force passed downward through the mountain, compressing the subterranean minerals and locking the moisture around the five seeds into a microscopic stasis ring.

To Felix, it just felt like his core was settling comfortably after a good breakfast.

"Earth seems pretty solid today," Felix murmured, scraping the loose dirt back over the holes with his trowel. "Nice and firm."

To Lyra, the universe had just tipped on its celestial axis.

She saw the subterranean ley lines of the Seventh Spire bend toward the five small holes. The earth qi did not flow—it was violently pulled into alignment by the sheer gravitational gravity of Senior Brother’s dantian. The five seeds absorbed the planet-tier compression instantly, their golden husks drinking in the ambient solar heat from the cabbage and the static moisture from the gryphon's breath.

*The Five-Fold Heaven-Nourishing Array...* Lyra thought, her knees trembling so badly she nearly collapsed onto the porch steps. *He has synchronized the Earth Mass of his core, the Wood Element of the soil, the Fire Element of the cabbage, the Metal Element of the ancient trowel, and the Water Element of the morning mist! In three minutes of casual pottering, he has constructed an immortal divine greenhouse that defies the laws of nature!*

Felix stood up, dusting the black dirt from the knees of his linen shorts.

He walked over to the wooden rain barrel beside the porch steps, dipped a battered tin watering can into the clear water, and carried it back to the garden bed.

*Shower, shower, shower.*

He sprinkled cool rainwater over the fresh mounds of dirt until the soil was thoroughly soaked.

"There we go," Felix said, setting the tin can down beside the cabbage. "Hydration complete. Now we let the idle timers do the heavy lifting."

He pulled out the AetherDeck to inspect the progress.

A translucent Inspector HUD box hovered directly over the freshly watered garden bed:

【Flora: High-Yield Golden Radish (Immature)】 【Count: 5 Seedlings (Planted)】 【Soil Quality: Divine Terrestrial Loam (Gravity-Compressed)】 【Growth Timer: 47 Hours, 59 Minutes, 12 Seconds】 【Environmental Modifiers: Thunder Incubation (+50%), Solar Cabbage Glow (+100%), Earth-Core Stabilization (+100%)】 【Inspector Note: Sprouts are happily gorging on celestial energy. Expected harvest yield: exceptional quality. Do not let grazing animals chew on the foliage unless you want them to ascend to the Fourth Realm by accident.】

Felix nodded with satisfaction.

"Forty-eight hours flat," Felix said, slipping the slate back into his pocket. "That's two whole days of doing absolutely nothing out here. Perfect timing. I've got three new games on the deck I haven't even opened yet."

He walked back up the porch steps, stepped into his zero-gravity recliner, and let the chair tilt back to its comfortable one-hundred-and-twenty-degree angle.

He pulled his wide-brimmed straw hat down over his eyes.

"Lyra," Felix mumbled from beneath the straw brim.

"Yes, Senior Brother?" Lyra answered instantly, bowing so low her forehead nearly brushed her knees.

"If anyone comes up the mountain path trying to sell fertilizer or garden insurance, tell them we're all stocked up," Felix said, crossing his arms over his chest. "I'm going to take a twenty-minute power nap before lunch."

"It shall be as you decree, Senior Brother," Lyra whispered with absolute solemnity. "No mortal soul shall disturb the celestial germination."

Lyra drew her silver sword three inches from its scabbard, stepping into position at the edge of the porch like an imperial royal guard preparing to hold a fortress against an invading army.

Down in the yard, the Thunder Gryphon curled its body in a protective circle around the garden plot, resting its heavy chin on the grass. Its golden tail flicked lazily, keeping a warm dome of static air over the five freshly planted mounds.

On the porch railing, Barnaby the clockwork owl did not blink.

The black rubber stopper remained wedged in his brass beak. He stared at Felix’s sleeping form with unblinking amber eyes, clutching his copper coin in his left claw like a sacred relic of ancient, unpaid grievance.

Felix Vance let out a slow, steady breath.

Within seconds, the peaceful sound of his quiet breathing filled the quiet morning air, perfectly keeping time with the warm hum of the garden.
