Chapter 173: The Seven Spires Peace Accord

The morning mist burned away to reveal an unprecedented sight on Solitude Spire.

Down on the clover lawn, twenty high-ranking dignitaries from opposing ends of the continent stood in dead, anxious silence.

On the eastern side of the lawn stood the delegation from the Seven Spires of Aethelgard.

They were led by Arch-Inquisitor Valen, whose pristine white robes were stiff with gold bullion and disciplinary starch.

Behind him stood Chancellor Zhao of the First Spire and Grand Diviner Morwen from the Astral Observatory, clutching their jade tallies with white-knuckled fingers.

Opposite them stood the delegation of the Western Coalition.

Shadow Chancellor Morvath stood at the forefront, accompanied by three grand marshals whose obsidian-plated armor bore the scorched scars of the trapped armada.

Between the two hostile factions, there were no drawn blades.

There were no arrogant battle cries.

In fact, there was barely any breathing at all.

Every single eye was locked onto the wooden porch twenty paces away.

On the porch, Felix Vance reclined in his deep cedar armchair, wearing his bright yellow dragon-scale poncho.

The warm scales hummed with a gentle, soothing vibration that radiated into his lower back, easing every trace of lumbar stiffness.

On the low table beside him, his white porcelain Infinite Cozy Teacup rested on its saucer.

The tea steamed at precisely 68.5°C.

Underneath the front left table leg, the purple Sovereign Heart Seal held the furniture completely rigid against the porch floorboards.

Beside the cup, the glowing Soul-Pearl paperweight pinned down a stack of trade ledgers, casting a soft milky light across the cedar grain.

And stacked along the wall were forty-nine burlap sacks of Imperial Salted Plums, with the fiftieth sack sitting open beside Felix's knee.

Felix popped a salted plum into his mouth, chewed the tart flesh, and closed his eyes.

Up on his brass perch, Barnaby the clockwork owl stood locked in silence.

The black rubber stopper remained firmly wedged into his brass beak, holding his polished copper tip immobilized.

His internal gears gave off a faint, rhythmic cadence:

*Tick... tick... tick...*

Along the cedar roofline above, Patriarch Ao Cang rested his obsidian chin above the fluted brass downspout.

Behind him, the three azure flood dragons lay coiled in the morning sun, exhaling occasional puffs of warm steam.

Near the garden shed, Lord Nether-Bane leaned on his rake, watching the gathered diplomats with hollow, amused eye sockets.

And by the fence, the Thunder Gryphon was fast asleep on its belly, snoring softly like a golden hen.

Arch-Inquisitor Valen took a single, agonizingly slow step forward.

His leather boots barely grazed the damp clover, terrified of producing even a fraction of a decibel.

The report of the plum seed had reached the High Council yesterday evening.

An ancient Tier 6 Calamity Demon—the Nine-Headed Nether-Crow Sovereign—had been obliterated across eighty leagues of open sky by a piece of discarded fruit waste.

The astral diviners had spent all night measuring the kinetic impact crater in the clouds.

Their conclusion was unanimous: if Senior Brother Vance sneezed while facing east, the First Spire would be sheared in half.

Valen stopped at the base of the porch steps, dropping to one knee with the stiff, reverent grace of an inquisitor facing a primordial god.

Morvath immediately mirrored him, dropping to both knees on the grass.

"Lord Vance," Valen whispered, keeping his voice strictly modulated to conversational levels. "The High Council of the Seven Spires and the Western Imperial Court have reached full accord."

Felix didn't open his eyes.

He slowly chewed his plum.

"If you're here to deliver another invoice, Valen, drop it in the metal tin," Felix murmured. "I already told you, the tuition fees are auto-debited."

"No invoices, Lord Sovereign!" Valen stammered in a terrified whisper. "Never again! We come to ratify the Eternal Solitude Treaty!"

Morvath raised a two-foot-wide cylinder of pure white dragon-silk, embroidered with threads of woven stellar gold.

"The Western Coalition formally surrenders all territorial claims across the Middle Skyways," Morvath whispered hurriedly. "A demilitarized boundary of one hundred leagues shall permanently surround Solitude Spire."

"Furthermore," Valen added, leaning forward with solemn intensity, "the Seven Spires agree to full non-aggression and open trade corridors with the Western Skies. Both realms pledge an annual joint tribute of three hundred chests of imperial teas, candied fruits, and roasted mountain nuts."

Felix opened one eye.

"Candied fruits?" Felix asked.

"The finest in the known world, Great Sovereign!" Morvath promised frantically. "Sun-ripened honey persimmons! Glazed ginger roots! Almond crumbles from the western valleys! All delivered quarterly without disturbing your afternoon quiet hours!"

Beside the porch railing, Lyra Ashford stepped forward.

She was dressed in her pristine Ashford noble tunic, her silver rapier hanging at her hip.

She received the heavy silk scroll from Morvath's hands, unfurling it across the porch railing.

Her violet eyes scanned the dense calligraphy, her heart pounding with profound awe.

*A total cessation of war,* Lyra thought, her breath trembling in her throat.

*Two world-spanning empires that have spilled oceans of blood for five centuries... completely pacified in a single morning.*

*Not through treaties signed in blood and fire.*

*Not through conquest or political compromise.*

*They surrender because Senior Brother ate a pickled plum and spat out the stone.*

*His Dao of Inaction has transcended warfare entirely. By doing nothing, he has bound the fate of the continent.*

Lyra looked down at the two trembling dignitaries with cool, majestic authority.

"Your terms are acceptable," Lyra announced softly. "The sanctuary of Solitude Spire desires only quietude. But a treaty between mortal empires requires an eternal anchor. Who shall hold the covenant?"

Valen and Morvath exchanged a breathless glance.

From behind his back, Valen lifted a velvet-lined rosewood chest.

Inside rested a massive, fist-sized seal forged from solid celestial adamantine.

The seal was carved in the likeness of a slumbering golden dragon curled atop an eternal mountain peak, radiating a heavy, immovable aura of absolute cosmic authority.

"To guarantee the peace across all the skies," Valen declared, his voice trembling with reverent awe, "both empires unanimously bestow upon Senior Brother Vance the highest mantle in the history of Aethelgard."

Valen held the heavy adamantine seal aloft.

"He shall be named the Grand Idle Protector of the Skyways! Sovereign Arbiter of the Firmament! Guardian of the Unshakable Slumber!"

Morvath slammed his forehead to the grass in fervent agreement.

"Grand Idle Protector!" the twenty diplomats whispered in hushed, reverent unison.

A sharp, cheerful chime echoed from inside Felix's poncho.

Felix pulled out his brass AetherDeck.

The screen lit up with bright green text:

Felix blinked down at the display.

His passive Inspector HUD popped up with an appraisal of the adamantine artifact:

【Item: Seal of the Grand Idle Protector】 【Grade: Primordial Adamantine Sovereign Artifact】 【Weight: 42.5 lbs】 【Durability: Infinite】 【Inspector Note: Forged from celestial adamantine, completely immune to all magical and physical damage. Completely useless for casting spells. However, its flat base and heavy weight make it an outstanding paperweight or doorstop.】

Felix looked at the massive, forty-pound block of carved adamantine sitting in the velvet box.

He looked over at his open burlap sack of salted plums.

A stiff mountain gust blew across the porch, making the coarse burlap flap open and threatening to let dry pine needles fall into his snack pile.

Felix reached out with one hand.

He picked up the forty-two-pound adamantine Seal of the Grand Idle Protector.

He didn't inspect its ancient draconic runes.

He didn't channel his spiritual Qi into its binding matrix.

He simply leaned over the armrest of his recliner and placed the heavy adamantine seal directly onto the folded corner of the burlap sack, pinning it firmly against the porch floor.

*Thump.*

The sack stopped flapping.

The plums were safely sheltered from the wind.

Valen stared at the sack.

Morvath stared at the sack.

The twenty diplomats stared at the sack with bulging, bloodshot eyes.

*He... he took the Supreme Seal of Continental Sovereignty...*

*The seal that commands four hundred imperial legions and thirty floating academies...*

*And he used it to weigh down a sack of dried fruit?!*

Morvath began to weep quietly into his velvet sleeves.

*What profound disdain for worldly power,* Morvath thought, his soul quivering with religious ecstasy. *To him, the supreme authority of two empires is worth less than keeping pine needles out of his pickled plums.*

*This is the true heart of the Grand Idle Protector! He reigns above all thrones because thrones are merely furniture to him!*

Valen wiped a tear from his eye, bowing with supreme devotion.

"We hear and obey, Lord Protector!" Valen whispered. "The peace is sealed! The skyways shall remain silent under your eternal vigil!"

Felix took another slow sip from his Infinite Cozy Teacup.

*Slurp.*

The roasted barley tea hit his tongue at 68.5°C, warm and comforting.

"Great," Felix said, waving a limp hand toward the gravel path. "Sign your papers, take your skiffs, and keep the volume down. I have a nap scheduled for two o'clock."

"Immediately, Lord Protector!" Valen and Morvath scrambled backward on their knees, refusing to turn their backs to the porch.

They gathered their treaties, tiptoed to their flying skiffs on the outer lawn, and departed without making a single sound louder than a fluttering sparrow.

Lyra rolled up the dragon-silk scroll, placing it neatly on the cedar table under the edge of the Soul-Pearl paperweight.

She looked at Felix with eyes shining like stars.

"Senior Brother," Lyra said softly, her aristocratic voice filled with solemn grace. "The continent is united in peace. You have saved millions of lives without lifting a single finger."

Felix yawned, stretching his arms inside the yellow dragon-scale poncho.

The soothing lumbar hum of his binary core purred pleasantly against his lower spine.

"The best quest is the quest that completes itself while you're sitting down," Felix murmured. "Now if everyone could just stay away until tomorrow, that would be fantastic."

He reached into the weighted sack, pulled out another salted plum, and popped it into his mouth.

Up on the roof, Patriarch Ao Cang exhaled a quiet wisp of steam, resting his head back onto the fluted brass downspout.

On his perch, Barnaby clicked with flawless precision:

*Tick... tick... tick...*

And the peace of Solitude Spire remained completely unbroken.
