Chapter 176: The Unrendered Black Polygon in the Sky

A gentle autumn breeze drifted across Solitude Spire, carrying the crisp scent of dried pine needles and toasted barley.

On the cedar porch, the wooden hammock swayed with a rhythmic, hypnotic creak.

Felix Vance lay nestled beneath a soft quilted blanket, his straw hat tilted over his eyes to block the morning glare.

Above him in the clear azure sky, an iron-clad fleet of one hundred and eight captured dreadnoughts drifted in a silent, geosynchronous ring.

Small strings of luminescent fairy lanterns wound around their gun turrets, casting faint pastel sparkles across the clouds like a festive holiday festival.

At the edge of the roof eaves, Patriarch Ao Cang and his azure flood dragons snoozed peacefully, their heavy chins resting over the polished copper downspouts to keep the cedar gutters clear.

Down in the courtyard, Ghost King Lord Nether-Bane shuffled along the gravel paths in his pristine hemp apprentice apron, gently raking fallen pine needles with a tiny iron rake.

Every movement was agonizingly slow and silent, performed with the devout terror of an undead sovereign terrified of awakening his sleeping master.

Suddenly, a strange visual glitch flickered across the eastern horizon.

Directly above the rugged sawtooth ridges of the outer mountain peaks, the blue atmosphere did not simply darken or cloud over.

It fractured.

A razor-sharp geometric polygon, roughly four hundred yards across and pitch-black as unpolished obsidian, hovered motionless in the middle of the sky.

It had no depth, no atmospheric haze, and no lighting gradient.

It was an absolute, textureless void that seemed to delete the skybox behind it, showing only a hollow void of matte black emptiness.

Felix lifted the brim of his straw hat by half an inch, blinking lazily at the sky.

"Great," Felix muttered, his voice gravelly with sleep. "Missing texture map. Did the developer push an uncompressed skybox patch overnight without testing the mesh?"

He reached beneath his sleeve and pulled out the cool brass slate of the AetherDeck.

The screen illuminated with a crisp amber glow, the idle counters ticking upward in steady, comforting increments.

[1. CLAIM AFK LOOT] [2. RESTART DRIVER] [3. IGNORE]

Felix tapped [3. IGNORE] without a second thought.

"Typical indie early-access junk," Felix grumbled, rolling onto his side. "The moment you reach mid-game, the memory leaks start eating the render pipeline. Next thing you know, the trees will turn purple."

He closed his eyes and pulled the quilt up to his chin, fully intending to catch another ninety minutes of sleep before lunchtime.

Across the courtyard, however, Lyra Ashford was having an entirely different experience.

The young sword-maiden stood frozen on the stone stairs, a polished silver tray clutched tightly in her trembling fingers.

Her aristocratic silver hair whipped in the sudden, unnatural chill that had begun creeping down from the upper strata.

Her wide lilac eyes stared at the pitch-black geometric rift hovering over the mountain ridge.

"The Great Abyssal Rift..." Lyra whispered, her voice choking on dry dread. "The ancient boundary seal of the First Firmament... it has ruptured."

For ten thousand years, the ancient sacred texts of the Radiant Dawn Academy had warned of the Forgotten Void Sea.

It was an extra-dimensional chasm that lay beneath the roots of reality, home to primordial horrors that fed on the fundamental laws of geometry and light.

And now, an unholy tear had opened directly on the border of their sky-province.

Lyra looked toward the cedar porch, expecting to see senior brother leaping into action, drawing upon the terrifying thermonuclear fires of his Sol-Class core to mend the firmament.

Instead, she saw Felix lazily reach out a bare arm from beneath the blanket.

He picked up his chipped porcelain mug, tested the temperature with the tip of his finger, and took a small, contented sip of roasted barley tea.

The tea, perpetually anchored by the localized thermodynamic gradient of his white dwarf companion core, sat at a flawless, unchanging 68.5 degrees Celsius.

Lyra’s breath hitched. A profound wave of realization swept through her chest, striking her like a physical hammer blow.

'Senior Brother saw the void tear minutes ago,' she thought, her knuckles turning white against the tea tray. 'He looked directly into the abyss, checked his celestial jade slate, and dismissed it with a single tap of his finger!'

She recalled the ancient scriptures of the Solitude Peak: *When the world falls into chaos, the true Sovereign remains motionless, for to move is to acknowledge the illusion of threat.*

'He isn't ignoring the tear because he is lazy,' Lyra's thoughts raced in fanatical awe. 'He is ignoring it because to a being who cradles a burning sun and a white dwarf within his mortal flesh, an invasion from the Outer Dark is nothing more than an uninvited speck of dust on his front porch!'

Over on the roof beam, Barnaby the Clockwork Owl puffed out his brass chest feathers.

The black rubber laboratory stopper remained clamped firmly within his beak, sealing his screeching vocal apparatus in total silence.

Clamped in the owl's brass mandibles was the polished copper tip of an ink brush, glinting brightly in the morning sun.

Barnaby’s internal escapement clicked in precise microsecond synchrony with the 18-hour spin of Felix’s internal white dwarf companion core.

*Click... tick... tock.*

The automaton glared at the black void in the sky with profound mechanical disdain, as if offended that an extra-dimensional rupture dared interrupt its master's scheduled morning nap.

Meanwhile, three floating islands away, the Third Spire of the Radiant Dawn Academy had descended into utter, apocalyptic pandemonium.

Inside the high copper dome of the Astral Observatory, brass astrolabes spun wildly out of control.

Grand Astrologer Varis sprinted across the circular balcony, his velvet robes trailing behind him like frantic banners.

"Report! What are the divination spheres showing?!" Varis roared, clutching his crystal observation telescope.

"Chancellor, the celestial firmament has lost eighty degrees of harmonic tension!" a senior diviner cried out, staring at a smoking bronze basin filled with bubbling mercury. "The spatial metric tensor across Sector Nine has flattened to zero! It's not a spatial rift... it's an ontological eraser! The Void Sea is consuming the coordinates of the mountain!"

Chancellor Valen, who had arrived via high-speed flying carriage within moments of the tear appearing, gripped the observatory railing so hard the mahogany wood groaned.

His starched imperial collar was soaked in cold sweat.

"Is the Western Coalition attacking again?" Valen demanded, his voice cracking with sheer strain.

"No, Chancellor!" the diviner gasped, pointing a shaking finger through the dome's open aperture. "The Western Coalition's one hundred and eight dreadnoughts are still parked above Solitude Spire! In fact, their crews are currently stringing paper lanterns between the cannons for Senior Felix's harvest celebration!"

Valen rubbed his temples, feeling an agonizing migraine blooming behind his eyes.

"Then what in the name of the Ancestral Heavens is that black shape?" Valen whispered.

"It is an Abyssal Vanguard Incursion," a trembling voice echoed from the shadowed corner of the observatory.

Grand Marshal Vane-Talon stepped forward, his massive frame draped not in his legendary adamantine war-plate, but in a simple gray apprentice robe and a clean hemp waist-tie.

The former commander of the Western Iron Armada had spent the last three days meditating on Felix's porch steps, studying the sublime geometry of the wooden table shim.

"I know that signature," Vane-Talon said quietly, his eyes dark with grim recognition. "The ancient chronicles of the Obsidian Spires speak of them. The Bio-Mechanical Void Swarm. Entities that dwell beyond the light of the stars. When they breach a realm, they do not conquer cities. They dissolve the matter into raw static."

Valen turned pale. "Then our academy... our floating islands... we are doomed."

"Doomed?" Vane-Talon let out a low, humorless chuckle, shaking his head. "Look through the telescope, Chancellor. Look at where the breach opened."

Valen leaned forward, pressing his eye to the massive crystalline lens of the primary observatory telescope.

The optics zoomed across the misty valleys, bringing the Seven Spires into razor-sharp focus.

The terrifying, razor-edged black polygon hung directly within the line of sight of Solitude Spire.

And on the front porch of that crooked, neglected timber hut, a young man was currently stretching his arms, letting out an enormous, leisurely yawn that echoed softly through the morning air.

"He... he is waking up," Valen whispered, his heart hammering against his ribs.

"He is not waking up to fight," Vane-Talon corrected with absolute religious conviction. "He is waking up because the void tear is blocking his morning sunlight. May the Heavens have mercy on whatever crawls out of that hole."

Back on the porch, Felix sat up on the edge of the hammock, scratching the back of his neck.

He slipped his feet into his woven straw slippers and shuffled over to the low cedar table.

Beside the teapot, pinned beneath the glowing, fist-sized Soul-Pearl paperweight, lay his daily farming checklist.

Felix tapped the paper, his gaze drifting toward the small garden patch in the courtyard.

【Item/Target: Garden Bed Alpha】 【Crop: 5-Star Sun-Lotus Cabbage & Golden Radishes】 【Soil Temperature: 69.0°F (Locked by Ambient Fusion Radiator)】 【Status: Ready for Morning Irrigation】 【Inspector Note: A minor dimensional tear in the upper sky is slightly reducing ambient photon exposure by 0.04%. If left unresolved, cabbage crispness will drop from Grade S to Grade A-. Unacceptable.】

Felix frowned at the tooltip.

"A zero-point-zero-four percent drop in vegetable crispness?" Felix mumbled, his eyebrows furrowing in mild annoyance. "I spent two weeks leveling this garden plot. If a graphical glitch ruins my cabbage crunch, I'm writing a two-page bug report on the community forums."

He picked up his battered zinc watering can from beside the porch post, gave the Sovereign Heart Seal under the table leg an affectionate tap with his slipper, and walked down the steps into the morning sun.

Above him, the black polygon in the sky pulsed with a faint, oily violet static.

The invasion of the Abyssal Void Fleet had officially begun.

And on Solitude Spire, the supreme ruler of the cosmos had just picked up his watering can.
