Chapter 177: Forbidden Whisperings and Mute Buttons

The shadow cast by the black geometric void tear hung heavy over the Eastern Sky-Province.

Around Solitude Spire, the autumn breeze carried a strange, oily metallic tang that prickled the skin.

Inside the garden courtyard, Felix Vance carefully tipped his zinc watering can over the rows of five-star Sun-Lotus Cabbage.

A thin, shimmering stream of water fell across the golden leaves, releasing a soothing hiss of steam as the soil absorbed the moisture.

Beside him, Lord Nether-Bane knelt on a woven straw mat, using a miniature brass fork to aerate the soil around the prize golden radishes.

The ancient Ghost King’s skeletal fingers trembled ever so slightly beneath his hemp cuffs.

"Careful with the root hairs, Nether-Bane," Felix remarked casually, adjusting his straw hat against the morning sun. "If you bruise the taproot, the bonus defense stat drops by two points."

"This unworthy servant shall exercise absolute diligence, Supreme Master!" Nether-Bane choked out, bowing until his skeletal chin brushed the damp compost. "Every granule of rich earth shall remain undisturbed!"

Felix let out a soft sigh, rolling his eyes beneath his hat brim.

"It's just radish fertilizer, man. Don't make it weird."

Before Felix could empty the rest of his watering can, a low, unnatural vibration began resonating through the bedrock of the floating island.

The vibration lacked any physical sound.

It was a psychic resonance, a greasy telepathic frequency that bypassed the ears entirely, vibrating directly against the cerebral cortex.

*Y'gth-krr... rrr'ksssh... the unrendered dark consumes...*

The whisper sounded like a thousand wet tentacles slithering across dry parchment, interspersed with the static hiss of a dead television channel.

Down across the lower floating islands of the Radiant Dawn Academy, disciples and senior tutors instantly collapsed to their knees.

Disciples clutching training rapiers on the Blade Spire clutched their skulls, groaning in agony as blood dripped from their nostrils.

"My mind... my spiritual sea is tearing!" an elite disciple screamed, rolling across the flagstones. "The void chanting... it is rewriting my memories into black geometry!"

Up in the First Spire, the Grand Elders desperately activated the Great Golden Sun Array, summoning eight colossal runic shields to envelop the campus.

Yet the telepathic whisper passed through the ancient defensive barriers like mist through an open window.

*Submit to the non-Euclidean eye... form is delusion... carbon is clay...*

Elderly archmages dropped to the marble floor, clawing at their ears as profound existential dread threatened to shatter their cultivation foundations.

Chancellor Valen leaned heavily against his council desk, his teeth clenched so hard they cracked.

"Mind-Suppression Pills!" Valen gasped, his vision swimming with kaleidoscopic black triangles. "Distribute the Ninth-Tier Cleansing Elixirs to all students! The Abyssal Herald... it is projecting a Mind-Devouring Hex across the entire sky-province!"

"Chancellor, the pills aren't working!" an inquisitor sobbed from the doorway, blood leaking from his tear ducts. "The frequency is too fundamental! It attacks the concept of consciousness itself!"

Back on Solitude Spire, Felix paused his watering can mid-pour.

He frowned, tilting his head.

"What is that buzzing?" Felix muttered, rubbing his left ear with his sleeve. "Did someone leave a microwave running on defrost?"

He set the watering can down on the porch stairs and climbed back up to his wicker armchair.

On the cedar table, the AetherDeck was already flashing with a persistent amber border.

Felix picked up the brass slate, tapping the glass with an irritated index finger.

[1. VOLUME DOWN] [2. AGGRESSIVE MUTE] [3. IGNORE NOISE]

Felix stared at the screen, his jaw set in pure annoyance.

"I knew it," Felix grunted. "Indie games always have the worst ambient audio mixing. You turn on a nice relaxing farming simulator, and some intern hardcodes a buzzing fluorescent light sound effect into the background soundtrack."

He slid his thumb down the side of the brass casing to option [2. AGGRESSIVE MUTE].

Beside option two, a small toggle switch read: `[Background Noise Cancellation: Aggressive Null-Wave Filter]`.

Felix clicked the toggle.

*Click.*

A faint, localized ripple of pure mathematical silence expanded outward from the glass screen of the AetherDeck.

It did not release an explosion of golden light or an earth-shattering thunderclap.

Instead, the localized space around Solitude Spire simply... stopped vibrating.

The absolute stillness of hard vacuum, anchored by the dense barycentric mass of Felix's white dwarf companion core, expanded in a spherical shockwave that rippled across the floating islands.

Where the null-wave passed, the telepathic whisperings were not merely suppressed.

They were canceled out.

The oily, slithering demonic chanting was struck by an equal and opposite phase-inversion wave of pure, indifferent silence.

*Y'gth-krr—*

*Pop.*

The sound cut off with the clean, anticlimactic snap of a speaker wire being pulled from an amplifier.

Across the seven spires of the Radiant Dawn Academy, the agonizing pressure in three thousand skulls vanished in an instant.

Disciples lying face-down in the courtyard gasped, their lungs filling with cool, clean morning air.

The bloody noses stopped bleeding.

The terrifying hallucinations of non-Euclidean black geometry dissolved into harmless morning mist.

Silence—pure, sweet, golden morning silence—returned to the kingdom.

Inside the council chambers of the First Spire, Chancellor Valen slowly lifted his head from his desk.

His trembling hands reached up to touch his ears.

There was no ringing.

No demonic chanting.

No cosmic madness clawing at his spiritual meridians.

"The... the whisperings," Valen croaked, blinking in disbelief. "They stopped?"

"Chancellor!" the chief diviner burst through the double doors, stumbling over his ceremonial robes. "The divination mirror! The entire telepathic array of the Abyssal Herald... it was extinguished in a microsecond!"

Valen lunged forward, grabbing the diviner's collar. "How?! Did the Ancestral Spirit of the First Chancellor awaken?!"

"No, my Lord!" the diviner gasped, holding up a floating scrying crystal. "The suppression originated from the Seventh Spire! A single harmonic pulse of Absolute Void Non-Existence rippled outward from Senior Felix's porch! It erased the abyssal frequency as if wiping chalk from a slate!"

Valen stared at the scrying crystal in paralyzed terror.

Through the shimmering lens, he could clearly see Felix sitting on his porch.

Felix was not chanting ancient scripture.

He was not forming complex hand seals.

He was tapping the corner of his brass gaming slate with a look of mild irritation, before tossing it onto the cedar table beside his tea mug.

"He... he treated an extra-dimensional soul-curse like an annoying fly," Valen murmured, his knees shaking uncontrollably. "He didn't even stand up from his chair."

Beside him, Grand Marshal Vane-Talon crossed his massive arms over his gray apprentice robe, his expression grim with solemn reverence.

"You still do not grasp the depth of Solitude Spire, Chancellor," Vane-Talon rumbled in a hushed, reverent tone. "Look at the table beneath his mug. The Sovereign Heart Seal of the First Era remains wedged under that left leg. A relic that once bound nine celestial realms is treated as scrap timber."

Vane-Talon pointed a thick, calloused finger toward the scrying crystal's upper edge.

"My former armada—one hundred and eight dreadnoughts forged from dark iron—now hangs above his garden like paper lanterns on a festival string. If he chose to vent one millionth of the power compressed within his white dwarf companion core, the entire rift would be sealed in blinding solar fire. Yet he chooses silence. To him, the cosmic abyss is not an enemy. It is merely unwanted noise."

Valen swallowed hard, his throat bone-dry. "Then... what should we do?"

"Do nothing," Vane-Talon advised softly. "Ensure no disciple walks near the Seventh Spire with hard boots. If you disturb his morning tea, the void will be the least of your concerns."

Back on Solitude Spire, Felix leaned over the table, tapping the glowing screen of his AetherDeck once more to verify the setting.

【Feature: Ambient Noise Cancellation (Level 3)】 【Status: Active / 100% Attenuation】 【Decibel Reduction: -85 dB across all extra-planar spectral frequencies】 【Inspector Note: Successfully filtered out low-frequency telepathic sludge broadcasted by an unrendered void entity. Warning: Does not prevent Junior Sister from initiating unskippable dialogue sequences.】

Felix let out a tired sigh, letting his head drop against the high wooden backrest of his chair.

"At least the hum is gone," he muttered, resting his hands in his sleeves. "Now if only someone would patch out the dramatic speeches."

On the porch steps of Solitude Spire, Lyra Ashford fell to both knees, her silver rapier clattering against the cedar boards.

Tears of profound, religious enlightenment welled in her lilac eyes.

She looked at Felix's tranquil, slightly bored profile, her heart pounding with fanatical fervor.

'Senior Brother's Dao of Stillness...' Lyra thought, her mind reelingly expanding into cosmic realms she could barely comprehend. 'The Abyssal Herald sought to corrupt the minds of all living beings, yet Senior Brother perceived the ultimate truth: speech is an illusion, sound is vanity, and all noise must bow before the Absolute Silence of the Great Dao!'

She bowed until her forehead pressed against the fragrant cedar wood.

"Senior Brother," Lyra whispered, her voice trembling with devout worship. "Your boundless compassion has saved three thousand disciples from eternal spiritual madness. This disciple shall carve this lesson into her soul: when the demons of the outer void roar, the master only needs to grant them silence!"

Felix looked over at her, his forehead furrowing into deep, bewildered lines.

"What are you talking about, Lyra?" Felix said dryly, scratching his nose. "I just turned on noise cancellation. My slate's audio driver was clipping. Honestly, developers who don't test their sound levels before pushing a patch should have their keyboards confiscated."

Lyra gasped softly, her soul shuddering.

'Audio... driver? Sound levels?' she repeated in her mind, over-analyzing every syllable into a sacred cipher. 'He speaks of the primordial tuning of the cosmic frequencies! The universe is his instrument, and he merely adjusted the string tension!'

"This disciple understands!" Lyra proclaimed with burning passion. "I shall guard your silence with my life!"

Felix stared at her for five seconds, took a sip of his perfectly warm 68.5°C roasted barley tea, and shook his head.

"Great," he muttered under his breath. "Another dialogue tree with no skip button."

Over on the roof beam, Barnaby the Clockwork Owl puffed out his brass feathers, his copper tip gleaming proudly in the morning light.

The black rubber stopper in his beak let out a tiny, contented squeak.

*Tick... tock... click.*

Far above in the clouds, beyond the rupture of the black polygon, the vanguard scout of the Abyssal Void Fleet was just beginning to emerge.

Its sensory eyes were scanning for resistance.

It had no idea that its entire psychological warfare division had just been muted by a man trying to take a morning nap.
