In the freezing depths of the outer abyss, High Sovereign Xylarion was nursing his wounded consciousness.
His planetary iris, once three thousand leagues across, had shrunk to a bruised, pulsing sliver of dark matter.
Surrounding him in the black void, the shattered remains of four thousand vanguard warships were drifting like charred iron teeth.
The synchronized laser barrage from the 108 orbiting moonlets had not merely burned his fleet.
It had insulted his very existence.
For nine cosmic epochs, civilizations had greeted Xylarion’s arrival with weeping, planetary sacrifices, and desperate suicidal charges.
Never in his existence had an entire world greeted his extinction fleet by stringing paper lanterns, firing multicolored disco beams, and playing crystalline wind chimes.
*IT IS IMPOSSIBLE,* Xylarion’s thoughts hissed through the dark vacuum, causing cold antimatter sparks to flare along his perimeter. *THAT MOUNTAIN SPIRE... IT IS NOT A MORTAL REFINEMENT PLATFORM. IT IS THE COMMAND CITADEL OF A PRIMORDIAL STELLAR CREATOR.*
His ancient mind analyzed the sensory data collected by the dying sensors of his cruisers.
The entity upon the porch had not even stood up from his wicker chair.
He had eaten an apple.
He had adjusted the geometric fabric of the third dimension with a single casual gesture.
He had discharged excess static from an orbiting lunar fleet as though brushing lint off an old tunic.
*SUCH BEINGS DO NOT EXIST IN MORTAL WORLDS,* Xylarion reasoned, a wave of profound ontological dread washing through his consciousness. *HE IS AN ANCIENT CELESTIAL OVERLORD WHO HAS GROWN WEARY OF CONQUEST, RETIRED TO THIS BACKWATER REALM, AND MASQUERADES AS A MERE YOUTH TO MOCK THOSE WHO DISTURB HIS SLUMBER.*
To attack such a presence again would not be war.
It would be cosmic suicide.
Xylarion summoned his chief herald, an abyssal entity known across a thousand dark galaxies as Arch-Herald Mal'Zok.
Mal'Zok appeared as a tall, slender silhouette cloaked in shifting midnight fog, his face hidden beneath a silver mask shaped like a crescent moon.
"Mal'Zok," Xylarion’s psychic voice vibrated through the herald’s hollow bones. "Take the royal emissary barge. Descend through the stabilized rift. Approach the Seventh Spire with bare hands and empty scabbards."
Mal'Zok knelt in the vacuum, his dark cloak billowing.
"Sovereign," Mal'Zok whispered in a voice like rustling dry leaves. "Does the Great Sovereign intend to offer terms of vassalage? Or do we offer the Blood Compact of Eternal Submission?"
"We offer whatever will prevent him from firing those festive party lasers into my other eye," Xylarion replied grimly. "Take the most precious treasure from the deep vault—the chest of Pure Negative-Mass Dark Matter. Find out what this ancient slumbering god desires."
Down on the cedar porch of Solitude Spire, Felix Vance had just poured himself a fresh mug of roasted barley tea.
He was sitting back in his hammock, gently swinging his legs as he browsed the AetherDeck's quest log.
A soft, cheerful harp chime echoed from the speakers.
Felix smiled, tapping his chin with the corner of the device.
"Traveling merchants?" Felix mused aloud. "Nice. I was wondering when the wandering peddler event would trigger. Every good idle sandbox game has traveling traders who show up after a boss wave."
He tapped [1. WELCOME TRADER].
An Inspector HUD tooltip immediately illuminated the northern horizon.
【Target: Diplomatic Emissary Barge [Arch-Herald Mal'Zok]】 【Faction: Deep Void Sovereignty】 【Aggression Level: Absolute Zero [Terrified to the Bone]】 【Cargo Manifest: Pure Negative-Mass Dark Matter Reagents】 【Inspector Note: A high-tier foreign merchant disguised as an ominous void specter. Carries exotic cooling agents and weightless minerals. Completely harmless unless you ask him for a refund. Sells high-value goods for basic hospitality.】
Felix nodded approvingly.
"Terrified of getting bad customer reviews, huh?" Felix chuckled. "Good. Traveling merchants who have high customer service ratings always give the best discounts."
He looked over at Lyra Ashford, who was standing at attention near the porch steps with her spirit sword sheathed at her hip.
Her posture was rigid, her silver eyes scanning the skies with relentless vigilance.
"Lyra," Felix called out, waving his hand toward the garden path. "Put the kettle on the stove again. We’ve got a traveling merchant coming down from the rift."
Lyra stiffened, her eyes widening in immediate alarm.
"A merchant, Senior Brother?" Lyra asked, her hand flying instinctively to the hilt of her sword. "From the celestial rift? Is it another vanguard scout seeking to probe our defenses?"
Felix shook his head, taking a slow sip of tea.
"Nah, the battle event ended ten minutes ago," Felix said casually. "This is just the post-raid trading NPC. He’s bringing some rare cooling minerals. Probably wants to sell some ice packs or craft materials. Just make sure the kettle is hot. Traveling peddlers always appreciate a warm cup of tea."
Lyra’s jaw dropped.
*A post-raid trading NPC?*
*The Master has already broken the will of the cosmic invaders so completely that their surviving lords are now arriving as humble traveling merchants bearing tribute!*
"This disciple obeys!" Lyra declared, bowing with absolute reverence. "I shall prepare the finest roasted barley brew to receive the tribute of the Outer Dark!"
Down in the lower spires of the Radiant Dawn Academy, the atmosphere was completely different.
Chancellor Valen, Vice-Chancellor Morgana, and twenty senior elders were standing on the steps of the Grand Hall, watching a solitary black-and-silver barge descend through the clouds.
The vessel carried no gun turrets, no battering rams, and no shimmering defensive fields.
From its main mast flew a long white silk pennant embroidered with the ancient runes of unreserved surrender.
"Chancellor!" an elder shouted, clutching his spirit compass. "The void flagship is descending directly toward the Seventh Spire! Shall we mobilize the Academy Elders' Battle Array to intercept?"
"Have you lost your wits, Elder Wu?" Valen snapped, glaring at the man through his cracked spectacles. "Look at that white banner! Look at the speed of the vessel! It is moving at three knots—the speed of a humble supplicant entering an imperial court!"
Valen pointed a trembling finger toward the Seventh Spire.
"The Senior Brother has already subjugated the Outer Dark!" Valen declared, his voice echoing across the courtyard. "The Sovereign of the Void has sent his highest emissary to prostrate before the cedar porch! Any interference from us would be an insult to the Master's grand design!"
The Academy elders held their breath as the sleek black barge glided through the perimeter of the 108 fairy-lit dreadnought moonlets.
The Western Sky dreadnoughts did not even raise their gun ports.
Grand Marshal Vane-Talon stood on his flagship prow with his arms crossed over his chest, looking down at the envoy vessel like an imperial palace guard inspecting a delivery cart.
The barge descended through the cedar canopy of Solitude Spire, coming to a gentle, silent hover six inches above the stone walkway of the vegetable garden.
Arch-Herald Mal'Zok stepped off the prow.
His tall, shadowy frame was draped in an immaculate silver-trimmed mantle of pure void silk.
He held a polished obsidian chest in both hands, cradling it with profound, terrified care.
When Mal'Zok stepped onto the garden path, his eyes fell upon Lord Nether-Bane, who was leaning on his iron rake wearing a grease-stained hemp apron.
Mal'Zok froze.
His cosmic perception penetrated Nether-Bane's appearance, instantly recognizing the aura of an ancient Nether-Sea Ghost King who had slaughtered three whole spirit realms during the previous epoch.
And this terrifying entity was raking radishes.
"Move along, shadow-boy," Nether-Bane grunted, waving the rake dismissively toward the porch. "Wipe your feet on the hemp mat before you step on the cedar planks. The Master likes his timber clean."
Mal'Zok swallowed hard, his shadowy throat bobbing behind his silver crescent mask.
He looked up at the eaves of the porch.
There, coiled lazily around the copper downspout, was Patriarch Ao Cang, whose obsidian scales radiated enough primordial dragon fire to melt a minor moon.
The dragon didn't even open both eyes.
He simply cracked one golden slit, puffed a tiny ring of grey smoke from his nostril, and went back to dozing.
Mal'Zok’s legs were trembling so violently he could hear the joints of his knees clicking beneath his robe.
Every single guard, servant, and pet on this mountain was an ancient calamity capable of crushing star systems!
And sitting at the center of the porch, reclining in a simple rope hammock while wearing a straw hat and sipping cheap grain tea, was the Primordial Solar God himself.
Felix Vance looked down from the porch railing and raised a friendly hand in greeting.
"Hey there," Felix called out, his voice calm and welcoming. "Come on up. Don't worry about the dragon on the roof, he doesn't bite unless you touch the gutters."
Mal'Zok dropped to his knees at the foot of the porch steps, pressing the obsidian chest to the ground before him.
"Supreme Lord of the Sun and Stars!" Mal'Zok cried out, his voice trembling with sheer, unadulterated terror. "The High Sovereign of the Outer Dark sends his humblest greetings and begs an audience with your divine presence!"
Felix blinked.
He turned to Lyra and whispered behind his hand.
"Man, these travelling merchant roleplay lines are getting super dramatic," Felix said with an amused smirk. "They really went all out on the voice acting for this patch."
