The afternoon sun hung low over the western horizon, casting long, amber shadows across the cedar planks of Solitude Spire.
Arch-Herald Mal'Zok had returned to the outer void only forty minutes earlier, clutching his sacred linen bundle of roasted barley grains.
Now, a second celestial descent was underway.
Through the stabilized blue rift, a column of pure, silent shadow drifted downward through the upper atmosphere.
It did not arrive with thunderous war drums or violent dimensional distortions.
Instead, the shadow condensed into a humanoid avatar about six feet in height, draped in robes woven from cosmic night and bordered with silver nebular thread.
His face was sculpted from smooth obsidian, his eyes burning with twin points of cold, starlight-blue luminescence.
It was High Sovereign Xylarion himself, manifesting in a compressed mortal vessel.
Beside the avatar floated Arch-Herald Mal'Zok, carrying a heavy scroll of black dragon-leather bound with platinum wire.
As the two void lords stepped onto the garden pathway, Lord Nether-Bane did not even pause his raking.
"Shoes off at the porch steps," Nether-Bane called out without turning around, his rake clacking rhythmically against the stone tiles. "The Master just swept the pollen off the floorboards."
High Sovereign Xylarion, ruler of ten billion abyssal entities, hesitated for half a second.
Then, with absolute humility, he slipped off his dark-matter slippers and stepped onto the cedar porch in his bare linen socks.
On the porch, Felix Vance was seated at the cedar table.
Beside his elbow, the frosted glass tumbler still held three ounces of sweet plum wine, chilled to a crisp forty degrees by the floating negative-mass cubes.
Under the front left table leg, the Sovereign Heart Seal held the cedar frame rock-solid against the floorboards.
Barnaby the Clockwork Owl puffed his brass feathers, rotating his head forty-five degrees to inspect the newcomers.
Tick... tock... click.
The chronometer purred in microsecond synchrony with the white dwarf core in Felix's dantian.
Xylarion took three steps forward, dropped to both knees on the polished timber, and bowed his head until his forehead touched the floor.
"Sovereign of the Radiant Core," Xylarion spoke, his voice deep, cultured, and resonant with ancient dignity. "I, Xylarion of the Deep Void, have come in person to offer my submission and sue for eternal peace."
Felix swallowed a mouthful of cold plum wine and blinked down at the kneeling avatar.
A floating blue bracket appeared over Xylarion’s obsidian brow.
【Target: High Sovereign Xylarion (Mortal Diplomatic Avatar)】 【Faction: Deep Void Sovereignty】 【Disposition: Extremely Polite / Deeply Chastened】 【Intent: Finalizing Neighborhood Alliance Pact】 【Inspector Note: The final boss of the void raid has converted into a friendly neighboring NPC guild leader. He is terrified that your background processes will delete his home server. Seeks a permanent non-aggression pact. Strongly recommended to sign the treaty to unlock automated neighbor perks.】
Felix smiled faintly.
"Another neighborhood pact event," Felix muttered under his breath. "Just like in *Stardew* when the wizard gives you a quest to leave him alone. Pretty standard stuff."
Felix set his glass tumbler down on the cedar table.
"Have a seat, Xylarion," Felix said, waving his hand toward the empty wooden stool across the table. "You don't need to kneel on the floor. The planks are clean, but there’s still some dried pine sap in the grain."
Xylarion’s glowing blue eyes widened in shock.
He invites me to sit at his table?
The table supported by the Sovereign Heart Seal of the Western Sky?
The table upon which rests the sacred nectar of the stars?
Xylarion stood up with great care, his movements stiff with awe.
He sat on the very edge of the wooden stool, keeping his spine ramrod straight, his hands resting flat upon his knees.
Felix pushed a small porcelain cup across the cedar surface.
"Lyra," Felix called over his shoulder. "Pour the guest some tea. And bring out that plate of dried persimmons."
Lyra Ashford stepped forward gracefully, her hands steady as she filled the cup with steaming roasted barley tea.
She set down a small glazed saucer containing three candied persimmon slices, dusted with fine sugar crystals.
Xylarion lifted the porcelain cup with both hands, taking a tiny, reverent sip.
As the roasted barley liquid touched his avatar’s palate, a jolt of pure stellar vitality rippled through his spiritual core.
The residual chill of ten million years in the outer void thawed in an instant, leaving him in a state of absolute spiritual tranquility.
"Divine nectar..." Xylarion breathed softly. "A single sip cleanses the abyssal void from my spirit."
Felix popped a candied persimmon slice into his own mouth and chewed with a lazy smile.
"It’s just barley tea, man," Felix said with a chuckle. "Great for digestion after a heavy lunch. Anyway, let’s see what you’ve got on that scroll."
Mal'Zok stepped forward, trembling as he unrolled the heavy black dragon-leather scroll across the cedar surface.
"Great Lord," Mal'Zok whispered, his voice cracking. "This is the Abyssal Non-Aggression Covenant. The Deep Void pledges never again to breach the firmament of Aethelgard. We pledge our fleets to your sovereign command. In return, we beg only that your solar radiance does not annihilate our cold realms."
Felix leaned over the scroll, squinting at the dense, glowing runes.
He tapped the screen of the AetherDeck with his knuckle.
The device instantly translated the alien script into simple, readable system text.
Felix read through the terms with genuine approval.
"Quiet hours from ten PM to eight AM?" Felix said, tapping the scroll with his index finger. "Now that is a solid clause. I can't stand loud neighbors who run their lawnmowers at six in the morning. And you guys keep those three space whales humming at twenty-two hertz?"
Xylarion bowed his head earnestly.
"The Cetacean Matriarchs have already sworn their eternal songs to your hearth, Supreme Lord," Xylarion replied solemnly. "They shall sing only the soothing lullabies of the deep vacuum. If any rogue void cruiser creates the slightest engine rumble during your sacred resting hours, I shall personally dismantle their reactor with my bare hands."
Felix nodded, thoroughly impressed.
"That’s what I call good property management," Felix said. "Alright, I'll sign."
Felix reached into the pocket of his violet void-silk robe and pulled out a short, stubby graphite pencil.
It was an ordinary carpenter's pencil he had used weeks ago to mark garden stakes.
The lead was slightly blunt at the tip.
Felix leaned over the dragon-leather scroll and scribbled his name in loose, cursive letters across the signature line at the bottom:
*Felix Vance.*
Beside his name, he added a small checkmark.
To Felix, it was just scribbling his initials on a digital delivery slip.
To High Sovereign Xylarion and Arch-Herald Mal'Zok, however, what they witnessed defied all mortal comprehension.
As the graphite tip scraped against the black dragon-leather, dark-matter sparks flared along the fibers of the scroll.
The simple carbon atoms of the pencil lead, infused with the ambient gravitational compression of Felix's dantian, underwent instant diamond-phase nuclear bonding.
The signature burned into the leather in letters of blinding, indestructible stellar fire.
The covenant was not merely recorded on parchment.
The words echoed across the dimensional fabric of twelve outer galaxies!
A resounding chime reverberated through the void, sealing the laws of time, space, and quiet hours into the fundamental cosmic constants of reality.
Down in the lower spires of the Radiant Dawn Academy, Chancellor Valen stood before the Grand Mirror of Heaven, weeping openly into his sleeves.
"The Great Porch Concordat..." Valen choked out, gripping the stone balustrade. "The Supreme Sovereign of the Void has bowed his head before the cedar table! The entire mortal cosmos has been secured by the stroke of the Senior Brother’s pencil!"
Up in the orbit of Solitude Spire, Grand Marshal Vane-Talon signaled the 108 dreadnought moonlets to stand down from combat stations.
"All ships, shift to Quiet Patrol Mode!" Vane-Talon commanded. "The treaty is ratified! Solitude Spire is the inviolable sanctuary of creation!"
Back on the porch, Xylarion let out a long, trembling breath of pure veneration.
"The Covenant of the Porch is sealed," Xylarion declared, pressing his hands together in a solemn salute. "For ten million cycles, the Outer Void shall guard your sleep."
Felix blew a stray fleck of graphite dust off the scroll, picked up his glass of plum wine, and took another refreshing sip.
"Sounds good to me," Felix said with a yawn. "Just remember, ten PM means ten PM. If I hear an engine revving while I’m dozing, I'm adjusting the resolution slider again."
Xylarion’s obsidian face paled visibly.
The memory of the metric tensor snap and the 108 disco laser beams sent a violent shudder through his spine.
"Understood, Supreme Lord!" Xylarion answered with frantic earnestness. "Absolute silence shall reign across the firmament!"
Lyra Ashford, standing beside the porch railing with the copper tea kettle, wiped away a stray tear of spiritual joy.
The terror of the cosmos had been pacified not with blood and devastation, but with a stubby pencil and a cup of plum wine.
The peace of Solitude Spire was now the universal law of the heavens.
