The dragon-leather treaty scroll was rolled up and sealed with golden wax, placed respectfully in Arch-Herald Mal'Zok’s inner robe.
High Sovereign Xylarion stood beside the cedar table, his obsidian avatar bowing once more before the young man in the hammock.
"Supreme Lord Vance," Xylarion spoke, his voice reverent and solemn. "The pact of quiet hours is eternal. Yet, as a sovereign of the outer deeps, custom demands an earnest pledge—a physical token of our unshakeable fealty."
Xylarion reached up to his head with both hands.
He lifted off his ceremonial headpiece: the Void Crown of the Ten Billion.
The crown bore no resemblance to a gaudy circlet of gold or diamonds.
The crown was an intricate, basket-shaped lattice about two feet in height, woven from threads of absolute negative-mass void silk and supported by twelve curved ribs of polished abyssal obsidian.
When set upon a flat surface, the woven lattice hovered half an inch in the air, rippling with soft, indigo-black aurora light.
It radiated a faint, odorless vacuum field that instantly neutralized all airborne dust, moisture, and impurities.
"This is the Crown of the First Chasm," Xylarion whispered, holding the magnificent artifact forward with bowed arms. "Forged in the heart of the Great Maelstrom, it commands the psychic resonance of ten billion void entities. It is indestructible, immune to the decay of time, and repels all corruption across the universe."
Felix leaned over the edge of his hammock, squinting down at the tall, hollow lattice.
He scratched the back of his neck with a puzzled expression.
"You want me to wear that?" Felix asked, frowning at the two-foot-tall structure. "Look at the height on that thing. It’s way too tall. If I tried walking through the porch door wearing that, I’d hit my head on the cedar doorframe."
He shook his head with mild distaste.
"Besides, metal crowns are terrible," Felix added casually. "They pinch your temples, leave red indentations on your forehead, and give you tension headaches within twenty minutes. I already have my straw hat. It breathes well and keeps the sun off my nose."
Xylarion’s avatar froze, his starlight-blue eyes flickering in bewilderment.
He refuses to wear the Crown of the Ten Billion?
The supreme symbol of galactic dominion... rejected because of forehead creases?
Felix sat up on the hammock, letting his bare feet touch the warm cedar planks.
He reached out and tapped the rim of the floating crown with his index finger.
A crisp blue Inspector HUD tooltip appeared above the obsidian rim.
【Target: Void Crown of the Ten Billion (Primordial Regalia)】 【Structural Integrity: Indestructible [Absolute Zero Decay]】 【Internal Volume: Approximately 45 Liters Capacity】 【Micro-Environmental Effect: Passive Antimicrobial & Odor Absorption Field】 【Moisture Retention: 0.0% [Perpetual Dry Aeration]】 【Inspector Note: A high-tier ceremonial relic that commands abyssal armadas. However, its hollow cylindrical shape, self-sanitizing vacuum weave, and zero-mildew field make it the most technologically advanced dirty laundry hamper in existence. Holds up to two weeks of dirty tunics without developing any smell. Highly recommended for lazy slackers who hate doing laundry.】
Felix’s jaw dropped.
He blinked at the tooltip, reading the third and fourth lines three times to make sure he wasn't hallucinating.
"Wait a minute," Felix muttered, his voice filling with genuine awe. "Passive antimicrobial and odor absorption? Perpetual dry aeration?"
He touched the woven void-silk mesh.
The fibers were smooth, cool, and completely breathable.
Any stray speck of dust that drifted near the opening was instantly neutralized by the subtle vacuum field, disappearing into thin air without leaving a trace.
Felix looked at his straw hat, then down at the two-foot-tall hollow crown.
"Forty-five liters of internal capacity..." Felix whispered, doing quick mental math. "That’s big enough to hold twelve tunics, eight pairs of wool socks, and three bedsheets."
He looked up at Xylarion with an expression of profound gratitude.
"Xylarion," Felix said, clapping his hands together with a wide smile. "Now this is what I call a thoughtful housewarming gift. I’ve been looking for a proper laundry hamper for three weeks."
Xylarion blinked.
Mal'Zok blinked behind his silver mask.
"A... a what, Supreme Lord?" Xylarion asked, his voice cracking slightly.
"A laundry hamper," Felix said, picking up the two-foot-tall obsidian crown by its curved ribs.
The artifact felt completely weightless in his hands, floating gently with zero resistance.
Felix carried the crown across the cedar porch, past the table, past the flower pots, and set it down in the shaded corner between the cedar wall and the bamboo drying rack.
The crown hovered half an inch above the floorboards, looking perfectly at home in the alcove.
Felix reached into his pocket, pulled out a dirty, sweat-stained cotton work rag he had used to wipe plum juice off his fingers earlier, and tossed it into the open top of the crown.
The rag drifted down into the bottom of the woven lattice.
Instantly, the faint, sour smell of dried sweat vanished completely.
A tiny, crisp blue notification pinged across the AetherDeck screen.
Felix let out a long, blissful sigh.
"Six months without doing laundry," Felix whispered reverently. "I can just dump my dirty shirts in here and wash them whenever I feel like it. No mildew. No weird damp smell when it rains. This is the greatest invention in the history of home goods."
Down in the garden bed, Lord Nether-Bane leaned on his iron rake, watching the scene with wide, admiring eye-sockets.
"By Blackbeard’s peg-leg," Nether-Bane chuckled, his skeletal jaw clacking with approval. "That’s brilliant! No more hauling damp laundry down to the mountain brook every Tuesday! The Master just turned the Void King’s crown into an odor-free linen barrel!"
Nether-Bane turned to his spectral corsairs, shaking his bony finger with stern authority.
"Hear this, ye scallywags!" Nether-Bane barked in a ghostly rasp. "Strict hamper protocol begins today! Only the Master’s sacred robes and tunics go in the void basket! If I catch any of you bilge rats tossing your smelly pirate bandanas in there, I’ll feed your spectral hides to the yard dragons!"
Up in the lower observatory towers, Chancellor Valen had his eye glued to the brass mirror array.
He watched the placement of the dark-matter crown with trembling awe.
"The Crown of the First Chasm..." Valen whispered, clutching his chest. "The supreme crown of the abyssal dynasty... placed in the corner of the porch to gather dust and laundry! The Senior Brother’s disdain for worldly power is truly boundless! What is an imperial throne to a god who commands the sun?"
Behind Felix, High Sovereign Xylarion and Arch-Herald Mal'Zok were standing frozen on the cedar porch.
Their souls were reeling from a shock more profound than the metric tensor snap.
Mal'Zok looked like he was about to pass out, his shadowy form flickering erratically.
"S-Sovereign..." Mal'Zok whispered psychically to Xylarion. "The sacred regalia... he used it as a trash basket for soiled garments..."
Xylarion’s avatar stood silent for five agonizing seconds.
Then, his starlight-blue eyes widened with sudden, overwhelming spiritual realization.
"Fool!" Xylarion hissed back psychically, his thoughts trembling with holy awe. "Look closer with your soul-eye! What are those garments?"
Mal'Zok hesitated, then focused his celestial perception upon the sweat-stained rag in the bottom of the crown.
His breath seized.
The cotton rag, having touched Felix Vance’s skin, was thoroughly saturated with pure, concentrated Solar Divinity!
The residual sweat particles contained traces of hydrogen-helium fusion energy and the absolute warmth of a 1.0-Earth-Mass star!
By tossing his garments into the Void Crown, the Supreme Lord was not defiling the artifact.
He was bathing the crown in the purest celestial essence of creation!
Every second the crown held his discarded tunics, the dark-matter fibers were being purified, tempered, and elevated into a higher cosmic order!
"It is not a mere basket..." Xylarion breathed psychically, tears of pure stardust welling in his avatar’s eyes. "It is a holy baptismal font! The Master is allowing our most sacred relic to absorb his divine aura every time he undresses! This is the highest honor ever bestowed upon the Void Sea!"
Xylarion dropped to both knees before Felix, pressing his forehead against the cedar boards once more.
"We thank the Supreme Lord for this unimaginable blessing!" Xylarion proclaimed, his voice thick with devotional ecstasy. "May the Crown of the Chasm faithfully receive your sacred garments for all eternity!"
Felix looked over his shoulder from the hamper, rubbing his ear with his pinky finger.
"Yeah, sure, no problem," Felix said with a casual shrug. "Just tell Nether-Bane when he takes the basket down to the wash basin not to use bleach on the dark-matter weave. I don't want the color fading."
"This servant shall deliver your holy commandment to every corner of the cosmos!" Xylarion vowed solemnly.
Beside the porch railing, Lyra Ashford was nodding with tearful pride.
Her Senior Brother’s wisdom was simply unassailable.
Where others saw symbols of terrifying conquest, Senior Brother Vance saw practical solutions for household chores.
He had tamed the wrath of ten billion abyssal demons, turned their ruler into a courteous guest, and solved his laundry storage problem all in a single afternoon.
The Great Void Hamper sat proudly in the corner, gently humming in the cool mountain breeze.
And the universe was at peace.
