Chapter 199: The Academy's New Astral Defense Grid

1,789 wordsUse ← / → keys to navigate

In the sacred Inner Vault of the Radiant Dawn Academy, the Great Jade Registry lay open upon an altar of solid spirit quartz.

For nine centuries, this ancient codex had recorded the political hierarchy of the mortal realm: the imperial dynasties, the sovereign sword sects, and the celestial territories recognized by the High Heavens.

Today, Chancellor Valen stood before the altar, holding the Golden Vermilion Brush in his right hand.

His official purple robes were pressed and immaculate.

Flanking the altar stood sixty-four Senior Elders, the Grand Inquisitor of the Disciplinary Hall, and the Chief Astrologer of the Astral Observatory.

Every man and woman present was holding their breath in solemn anticipation.

Valen dipped the golden brush into sacred cinnabar ink infused with stardust gathered from the Seventh Spire’s aurora shower.

With slow, reverent strokes, he inscribed a new supreme territorial designation across the title page:

*THE NAVEL OF THE COSMOS: SOLITUDE SPIRE.*

Beneath the title, Valen penned the imperial decree:

*Here lies the Eternal Anchor of the Heavens, the Sanctuary of the Primordial Hearth. All earthly laws, imperial mandates, and sect jurisdictions are hereby declared null and void upon its soil. By unanimous decree of the Grand Conclave, the sole function of the Radiant Dawn Academy is now redefined: to serve as the Outer Logistics Bureau for the Senior Brother’s Porch.*

As the final stroke dried, a golden pillar of spiritual resonance shot upward from the altar, embedding the decree into the kingdom’s ancestral ley lines.

Chancellor Valen turned to face the assembly, his gaze sharp and unwavering.

"Grand Inquisitor Morvath," Valen addressed the imposing master of the Disciplinary Hall.

Morvath, a stern cultivator who had spent three centuries executing heretics and enforcing iron discipline, stepped forward and dropped to one knee.

"This subordinate awaits the Chancellor’s command!" Morvath rumbled.

"The Disciplinary Hall is hereby dissolved," Valen declared evenly. "You and your thirty senior enforcers are reassigned effective immediately. You are now the Honorary Porch Janitorial Division."

Morvath blinked, looking up in sheer shock.

"J-Janitorial Division, Chancellor?" Morvath stammered.

"Your duties are of supreme cosmic importance," Valen explained, his tone dead serious. "You shall report directly to Groundskeeper Nether-Bane. Your primary mission is to ensure that no stray fallen pine needles linger upon the Master’s cedar walkway for more than thirty seconds."

Valen leaned forward, his spectacles flashing with intense authority.

"Furthermore, if a single woodpecker or noisy magpie dares roost within five leagues of the cedar eaves during the Master’s designated sleeping hours, your division shall personally capture the offending avian and relocate it to the southern province with sound-dampening talismans!"

Morvath’s eyes widened with profound realization.

He slammed his fist against his breastplate, bowing his head to the stone floor.

"This subordinate understands!" Morvath shouted with ferocious devotion. "The peace of the Master’s slumber is the defense grid of our entire world! I shall sweep those cedar boards with my very soul!"

Beside the altar, the Master of Finance stepped forward, clutching an abacus with trembling fingers.

"Chancellor..." the finance master whispered nervously. "Regarding the logistics budget. Dedicating seventy percent of the academy's annual spirit stone reserves to supply the Seventh Spire with mountain spring water, sweet melons, and roasted barley... is that not somewhat excessive?"

Valen turned and stared at the finance master with icy contempt.

"Excessive, Master Jin?" Valen asked in a low, dangerous tone. "Yesterday, an entity capable of compressing galaxies arrived to fold our world into a flat sheet of paper. The Senior Brother resolved the crisis with a pencil, an apple, and twenty minutes of porch lounging. If the Senior Brother requests melon slices, we shall supply him with the finest melons grown across twelve continents, even if we must sell the academy's golden roof tiles!"

Master Jin swallowed hard and immediately bowed until his forehead touched the floor.

"This servant understands! The logistics caravan departs for the Seventh Spire every morning at dawn!"

Up on the Seventh Spire, the morning was peaceful and bright.

Felix Vance was sitting in his wicker chair, gently swaying his legs over the edge of the cedar porch.

Beside his hand sat his morning mug of roasted barley tea, steaming softly at exactly 68.5 degrees Celsius.

Under the front left table leg, the Sovereign Heart Seal held the table rock-solid against the floorboards.

In the corner, the Void Hamper hovered silently, holding three unwashed tunics and a pair of wool socks in odorless, antimicrobial perfection.

Down on the stone pathway, Grand Inquisitor Morvath and twelve former disciplinary elders were dressed in plain grey hemp tunics.

They were moving in a disciplined military sweep line, wielding soft bamboo brooms with breathtaking spiritual precision.

Whenever a dry cedar needle drifted down from the canopy, Morvath’s sword-finger flicked.

A microscopic gust of compressed wind essence caught the needle in mid-air, guiding it gently into a wicker compost basket before it could touch the stone tiles.

Felix watched them through half-closed eyes, taking a leisurely sip of his tea.

He tapped the screen of the AetherDeck.

Felix let out a long, satisfied sigh.

"Man, this property management update is the best thing the developers ever added," Felix murmured, tapping [1. SIT BACK & RELAX]. "Remember when I first arrived here? I had to sweep the porch myself, the roof leaked, and annoying sect disciples kept running up the path shouting about duel challenges."

He glanced down at Morvath, who was currently polishing a flat garden stepping stone with a dry flannel rag.

"Now the local town council finally assigned proper maintenance staff," Felix chuckled. "They don't even talk to me. They just sweep the leaves, keep the birds away, and leave me alone. That’s what I call five-star property management."

At that moment, the faint clatter of wooden wheels echoed from the lower mountain trail.

Four floating spirit ox carts, led by twelve breathless junior disciples in formal white courier robes, arrived at the base of the terrace steps.

The carts were stacked high with woven wicker hampers containing plump winter persimmons, crates of cold-pressed sesame oil, jars of mountain spring water drawn from the highest glacier peaks, and sacks of five-grain pearl rice.

Lyra Ashford walked down the steps with a carved wooden inventory tablet in her hands.

She inspected each crate with sharp, imperial scrutiny, tapping her silver seal onto the delivery manifests.

"The sesame oil passes inspection," Lyra declared to the trembling courier leader. "The persimmons are unblemished. Deliver six hampers to the stone cellar and take two jars of honey to the kitchen pantry. Move quietly. If your cart axles creak, you shall answer to Senior Brother Vance!"

"Yes, Senior Sister Ashford!" the courier whispered in panic, immediately casting sound-dampening charms on the wooden wheels.

Felix glanced at the floating supply tally in his AetherDeck screen.

Felix smiled, deeply satisfied.

"Groceries on auto-delivery," Felix chuckled to himself. "I literally don't even have to walk to the market anymore."

Beside him, Lyra Ashford was standing by the tea stove, holding a polished brass water ladle.

She looked at her Senior Brother with shining, adoring eyes.

A soft Inspector HUD bracket drifted across the sweepers below.

【Target: Grand Inquisitor Morvath (Now Honorary Chief Sweeper)】 【Cultivation Stage: Peak Soul Formation Realm】 【Current Activity: High-Precision Spiritual Leaf Sweeping】 【Mental State: In A State Of Absolute Transcendent Zen】 【Inspector Note: A terrifying military judge who spent his life torturing sect traitors. Now experiences profound spiritual enlightenment by making sure your garden path has zero dust particles. Sells zero gold. Works entirely for the honor of being near your warm core.】

Felix smiled and reached into the wicker basket on the table.

He pulled out a golden, sweet dried plum and tossed it down to the pathway.

The dried plum arced through the air and landed with a soft tap right in the center of Morvath’s clean dustpan.

Morvath froze.

He stared down at the dried plum as though the heavens had dropped a star-core into his hands.

He looked up at the porch with trembling reverence.

Felix gave him a lazy wave from the hammock.

"Good job on the sweeping, buddy," Felix called out casually. "Keep the walkway clean. There’s some fresh tea in the kettle by the steps if you guys get thirsty."

Morvath fell to both knees on the clean stone tiles, clutching the dustpan to his chest with tears streaming down his rugged, scarred cheeks.

"A Divine Solar Fruit..." Morvath wept softly in prayer. "The Master has recognized our humble sweeping! He offers the Nectar of Heaven to reward our brooms!"

Behind him, the twelve disciplinary elders dropped to their knees, bowing toward the porch with boundless devotional gratitude.

Down in the cabbage garden, Lord Nether-Bane leaned on his iron rake and chuckled.

"Told ye so, Morvath," Nether-Bane rasped, giving a skeletal wink. "Sweep true and don't make no ruckus, and the Master always shares the rations! Now get back to the south stairs before the afternoon pine needles drop!"

"Yes, Senior Groundskeeper!" Morvath barked eagerly, leaping to his feet with renewed vigor, his bamboo broom whistling through the air like a legendary divine spear.

High above on the roof beam, Patriarch Ao Cang rested his obsidian chin across the copper downspout, basking in the warm seventy-degree aura.

Beside him, Barnaby the Clockwork Owl rotated his brass head ninety degrees, clicking in steady, microsecond cadence.

Tick... tock... tick... tock.

Up in the orbit of the Seventh Spire, the 108 dreadnought moonlets circled in serene silence, their paper lanterns glowing softly against the dusk.

The three Abyssal Star-Whales swam lazily through the upper clouds, their deep twenty-two hertz song cradling the entire mountain peak in a warm, protective sonic cocoon.

The mortal realm was safe.

The void invaders had become friendly trading partners.

The academy elders were sweeping the yard.

And Felix Vance was ready for his afternoon nap.
