Chapter 228: The Outer Realm Shockwave

Felix Vance was halfway through his second bowl of sliced honeydew melon when his AetherDeck emitted a series of sharp, rhythmic static pops.

The small green latency indicator in the upper-right corner of his screen flickered erratically.

It jumped from twelve milliseconds to ninety-eight, plummeted back down to sixteen, and then shot into the triple digits with a bright yellow warning triangle:

DEV CONSOLE
STANDALONE HOST
[AETHERDECK NETWORK MONITOR: TRAFFIC CONGESTION]
Inbound Packet Density: +18,400% (Anomalous Spike)
External Connection Requests: 4,921,800 Active Pings
Source Origin: Extragalactic Subnets (Unknown IPs)
Latency Jitter: ±142ms
Alert: High inbound traffic detected on edge gateways.
Diagnostic: Pre-patch login queue congestion detected.
Action: Enable Quality of Service (QoS) Bandwidth Shaper.

Felix chewed slowly, frowning at the erratic graph.

"Look at that jitter," he said to Barnaby, who was perched quietly on the cedar railing with his copper talons locked around the polished wood. "Every single time an MMO announces a server wipe, all the inactive accounts log in at the same exact time to take final screenshots."

He swallowed the sweet fruit, tapping the network settings tab with a sticky thumb.

"They're spamming the regional routing nodes," Felix grumbled. "If this keeps up, my video stream will drop to 480p right in the middle of my afternoon idle rewards. We need strict bandwidth throttling."

He dragged the local QoS slider all the way to maximum priority, reserving ninety-nine percent of the orbital dish’s throughput for his personal recliner.

The remaining one percent of bandwidth was tossed into an external guest sandbox labeled `[Low-Priority Queue]`.

【AetherDeck QoS Rule Applied: Local Host assigned [Supreme High-Speed VIP Lane]. External inbound connections throttled to 56kbps dial-up simulation. Packet queueing enabled.】

"There," Felix said, dusting his hands on his hemp trousers. "Let the tourists wait in line. My ping is back down to eleven milliseconds."

He reclined into the soft cotton of his hammock, completely satisfied with his basic home networking skills.

Across the trans-galactic void, fifty million light-years away, an entire empire of ancient celestial gods was currently in the midst of unmitigated, disastrous collapse.

In the Great Nine-Star Astral Dominion, Emperor Heng-Luo stood atop the summit of the Divine World-Forge, staring up into a sky that was turning into burning gray ash.

For forty million years, Heng-Luo had ruled seventeen galactic sectors. His word was law; his divine soul burned with the undying fire of thirty thousand consolidated spirit stars.

Now, those stars were disintegrating like scorched paper.

"Sire!" Grand Chancellor Meng screamed, falling onto the obsidian dais as blood poured from his seven facial orifices. "The Law of Void has collapsed! The Great Kalpa of Reality Erasure has entered the Ninth Cycle! Spacetime is unraveling at forty times the speed of light!"

Heng-Luo clenched his fists, his imperial golden robes whipping violently in the entropy winds.

Through his divine pupils, he watched as a neighboring spiral galaxy—home to four hundred billion mortal lives and twelve immortal sects—was swallowed whole by a silent, crawling wall of mathematical nothingness.

Stars did not explode; they simply ceased to exist. Matter dissolved into static; spiritual energy decayed into cold, lifeless void.

"Can the World-Forge hold?" Heng-Luo demanded, his voice trembling with an emotion he had not felt in three epochs: pure, unadulterated dread.

"No, Majesty!" Meng wept, clawing at his chest. "The core array is buckling! In less than three incense sticks of time, our entire galactic sector will be wiped clean from the cosmic register!"

Heng-Luo closed his eyes, preparing to ignite his own immortal soul in a futile, final attempt to shield his remaining imperial bloodline.

Then, his divine senses caught a microscopic, impossible anomaly.

Amidst the suffocating darkness where thousands of galaxies were blinking out of existence, a solitary point of light remained blazing in the distant northern quadrant.

Rather than a titanic cosmic star, it presented itself as a modest yellow dwarf, wrapped in a slender, glowing ring of spun gold and brass.

Around that star, eight planets and a ring of broken sky-continents spun in serene, undisturbed harmony.

The destructive entropy wave, which had wiped out entire stellar clusters in seconds, rolled against the perimeter of that star system and simply vanished into gentle pink vapor.

Heng-Luo opened his divine eyes so wide the skin around his temples tore open.

"What is that domain?" Heng-Luo whispered, pointing a trembling finger across the void. "What manner of ancient celestial entity commands that star?"

Meng scrambled to the grand astrolabe, sending three drops of life-source blood into the bronze scrying lens.

The lens whistled, shuddered, and projected a terrifying astronomical readout above the dying dais:

【Sector 0-Prime: Isolated Stellar Sanctuary.】 【Ambient Temperature: Permanent 72.0°F.】 【Spacetime State: Write-Protected Gravitational Diamond.】 【External Status: Kalpa Nullification Zone. Entropy Conversion Rate: 100%.】

"It is... it is the Sanctuary of Stillness!" Meng gasped, his breath hitching in his throat. "The legends of the First Dawn were true! Beyond the nine astral rings, there exists a supreme sovereign who sleeps upon the axis of eternity!"

"Assemble the Star-Arks!" Heng-Luo roared, his imperial dignity instantly shattered by the primal urge to survive. "Abandon the palaces! Abandon the spirit-stone vaults! Load the royal family, the ancestral seeds, and the surviving elders into the Nine-Star Flagships!"

"Sire, the distance is immense!" Meng warned frantically. "It will require burning ninety percent of our imperial soul-fuel!"

"Burn it all!" Heng-Luo bellowed, leaping toward the royal flight deck. "If we stay here, we are dust! If we reach that golden star, we may live!"

Within minutes, twelve gargantuan star-arks, forged from condensed stellar adamantine, ignited their warp-cores and tore through the collapsing fabric of reality, hurtling across the void toward Aethelgard.

They were not alone.

Across the wider cosmos, ancient beings from dozens of dying galaxies had detected the same miraculous anomaly.

From the Frozen Nebula of the North, the Crystal Dragon Sovereign mobilized forty thousand sky-leviathans.

From the Eternal Lotus Sect, eighty thousand immortal maidens boarded jade petal cruisers, their faces pale with terror as their home sect dissolved into gray mist behind them.

From the Dark Void Expanse, forgotten ghost-fleets of ancient god-kings turned their prows toward the radiant yellow star.

Thousands of colossal vessels, carrying the last surviving elites of a dying universe, converged upon Sector 0-Prime like desperate moths flying toward the only lantern left in an infinite, pitch-black forest.

Along the outer perimeter of the Aethelgard system, Grand Marshal Vane-Talon stood on the forward bridge of his command dreadnought.

Around his vessel, the one hundred and seven companion dreadnoughts hung in a gentle, decorative curve, their hull lights softly illuminating the vacuum like paper lanterns at a country festival.

Suddenly, the dreadnought’s long-range radar arrays screamed with ear-piercing intensity.

"Hostile contacts in the outer Kuiper belt!" the radar officer yelled, slamming his hands onto the rune console. "Spatial distortion readings are off the charts! We have hundreds... no, thousands of warp signatures dropping out of hyperspace!"

Vane-Talon drew his heavy broadsword, his armored shoulder plates clicking into combat readiness. "Raise the void shields! Prepare the magnetic lance batteries! What sect dares invade the Sovereign’s domain?"

"Wait, Marshal!" the officer shouted, zooming in with the optical telescope. "Look at their flagship banners!"

Vane-Talon peered through the crystalline viewfinder.

Emerging from the void were massive crystalline dreadnoughts five times larger than his own fleet, bearing the terrifying imperial crests of ancient galactic dynasties.

Yet their weapons ports were completely shuttered. Their main cannons were disarmed and plugged with decorative white silk pennants.

At the bow of the lead Nine-Star flagship, Emperor Heng-Luo himself stood kneeling on the open observation deck, his imperial crown laid at his feet, his hands pressed flat against the metal deck in absolute surrender.

"They are not an invasion fleet," Vane-Talon breathed, slowly sheathing his blade. "They are refugees. The gods of the outer heavens are begging at our master's doorstep."

Up on his geostationary porch, Felix took another leisurely sip of mint tea.

He noticed the external temperature gauge on the railing had dipped by half a degree as the distant entropy waves washed harmlessly against the Dyson Ring.

Felix adjusted his straw hat, smiling as the familiar, pleasant warmth settled back over his cotton-clad shoulders.

"Nice," he murmured. "Automated climate control is the greatest feature ever coded. If the developers touch this heating loop in Version 2.0, I'm writing a two-star review."

He glanced up at the edge of his vision, where the guest queue counter had just jumped from zero to four thousand, nine hundred and twelve.

"Looks like the pre-patch event is getting crowded," Felix remarked, watching the tiny icons stack up in his network monitor. "Good thing I set up the dial-up throttling. Otherwise these foreign players would be lagging my entire sky."

He reached for his graphite pencil and a small scrap of cedar shingle, preparing to write down a new set of automated sorting macros for the guest line.

"Can't have people cutting in line," Felix decided. "Even in an idle game, basic queue etiquette must be respected."

He drafted the simple logic gates with quick, clean pencil strokes: all inbound guests must reduce engine thrust to five knots, maintain a mandatory ten-mile separation distance, and refrain from blowing decorative trumpet horns.

He touched the tip of his pencil to the AetherDeck screen, syncing the draft rules directly into the orbital signal broadcaster.

【Guest Routing Protocol Configured: Sector 0-Prime Waiting Area Initialized. Maximum Decibel Level: 20dB. Free Tea Samples: Pending Approval.】

"Clean, simple, and polite," Felix said with a satisfied nod.

He leaned back in his wicker chair, crossed his ankles, and watched the first distant clusters of alien ships drift into a neat, respectful holding pattern beyond the moonlets.

With his bandwidth safely protected and the sky orderly once more, he could finally finish his bowl of melon in peace.
