From the edge of his cedar porch railing, Felix Vance frowned at the northern horizon of the orbital vacuum.
The empty, peaceful black expanse that usually framed his view had turned into an overcrowded parking lot.
Thousands of foreign vessels were idling just beyond the perimeter of the 108 dreadnought moonlets.
There were towering crystalline obelisks sixty miles tall, gargantuan flying palaces built from carved white jade, and armored void-leviathans whose scales gleamed with ancient astral runes.
All of them were hovering with engines killed, their navigation lights blinking in timid, anxious intervals.
"Look at that mess," Felix said to Barnaby, pointing with a half-eaten sesame rice cracker. "The developers must have dropped an open-beta announcement without stress-testing the lobby. The airspace is completely choked with high-tier cosmetic mounts."
Barnaby clicked his brass beak against the carved rubber stopper, his internal atomic escapement ticking in soft, agreeable triple-time.
"If they stay parked in the shipping lanes, the pneumatic freight chute won't have enough clearance to launch dinner," Felix grumbled. "We need a ticket dispenser."
He brought up the AetherDeck's local script editor.
With a few quick taps of his thumb, he created an automated routing daemon linked to the solar Dyson Ring’s wide-band broadcast antenna.
"Simple, efficient, and civilized," Felix murmured, tapping the [Deploy Script] icon. "Let’s see if the NPC pathfinding can handle basic crowd control."
A soft golden ripple expanded outward from the 360 brass nodes of the solar Dyson Ring.
Across fifty thousand kilometers of orbital void, every single star-ark, crystalline barge, and jade palace shuddered as a tiny square of glowing pine wood materialized directly upon the center of their command consoles.
Aboard the Nine-Star flagship, Emperor Heng-Luo stood surrounded by his seventy-two highest battle-lords.
Every man in the room was drenched in cold sweat, their divine spiritual armor humming at peak tension.
Suddenly, the air in the center of the throne chamber chimed with a gentle, melodic tone reminiscent of a countryside temple bell.
A three-inch wooden token, carved from humble fragrant cedar, dropped from empty spacetime and bounced lightly against the edge of Heng-Luo’s golden war-table.
Heng-Luo drew his breath in sharply, dropping to both knees before the small wooden square as if it were an imperial decree from the creator of the cosmos.
"The Divine Decreeing Tablet!" Heng-Luo whispered, his fingers trembling so hard he could barely touch the polished grain. "The Sovereign of the Star has acknowledged our presence!"
Grand Chancellor Meng leaned forward with reverent terror, his spectacles fogging from his ragged breathing. "Sire! What sacred dao-law is inscribed upon the relic?"
Meng extended a thread of his refined divine consciousness to inspect the token's metaphysical structure.
He expected ancient primordial blood runes or terrifying sacrificial bindings.
Instead, his spiritual perception encountered the scent of mountain pine and fresh morning dew, wrapped in an unshakeable, mathematical law of absolute fairness.
Heng-Luo turned the wooden token over in his trembling palms.
Inscribed upon the fragrant wood were glowing green numerals:
【NOW SERVING GUEST: #001】 【Estimated Wait Time: 42 Minutes.】 【Assigned Parking: Slipstream Bay Alpha-9 (Please shut off auxiliary soul-turbines).】 【Current Status: The Sovereign is finishing his afternoon snack. Silence is mandatory.】
"Number One..." Heng-Luo breathed, tears of ecstatic joy spilling down his weathered cheeks. "Number One! Out of all the dying galaxies across the endless void, our Nine-Star Dominion has been granted the First Karma Slot!"
"Praise be to the Supreme Lord of Solitude!" Chancellor Meng wept, kissing the floor tiles with fervent devotion. "He has assigned us Parking Bay Alpha-9! Order the fleet to extinguish all soul-turbines immediately! If a single engine emits so much as a spark of excess heat, execute the engineer on the spot!"
A hundred miles to the starboard flank, the crystalline palace of the Crystal Dragon Sovereign had just received its own token.
The great dragon lord, an ancient beast who had chewed through planetary mantles for breakfast, stared in shock at the glowing square in his claws.
【NOW SERVING GUEST: #002】 【Estimated Wait Time: 48 Minutes.】 【Notice: Please keep claws inside your own vessel. Tail-wagging is restricted in the waiting area.】
"Number Two..." the Crystal Dragon Sovereign rumbled, a deep, guttural growl of awe vibrating through his crystalline chest. "Heng-Luo arrived three seconds ahead of us! He holds the First Token! But we hold the Second!"
In a sudden surge of desperation, the dragon lord opened a private, encrypted spiritual channel directly to Heng-Luo's throne room.
"Heng-Luo!" the dragon's voice boomed in psychic space. "I will trade you three primordial spirit planets, forty thousand cartloads of star-iron, and my third dragon daughter for Ticket #001!"
Heng-Luo's cold, dismissive laughter echoed back across the telepathic link.
"Get in line, lizard! Even if you offered the entire northern quadrant of the cosmos, I would not trade away one millisecond of the Sovereign's divine grace! The ticket is soul-bound! If you attempt to barter, the Sovereign will cancel your registration!"
The Crystal Dragon Sovereign shuddered, quickly pulling his psychic tendrils back into his skull.
He turned his massive, jewel-encrusted head toward his forty thousand dragon elders.
"Fold your wings! Extinguish your breath weapons! The Sovereign has explicitly prohibited tail-wagging! Anyone caught stirring the solar wind will be flayed by my own talons!"
Further down the perimeter line, the eighty thousand immortal maidens of the Eternal Lotus Sect gathered around Matriarch Lin, who clutched a glowing token stamped with `#003`.
"We are third," Matriarch Lin whispered, her porcelain cheeks flushing with overwhelming gratitude. "Third in the line of salvation! The Sovereign of Stillness has heard our prayers! Instruct the sisters to cease all chanting! Only the purest silence may enter this sacred sanctuary!"
Gliding gracefully between the parked foreign flagships, the three Abyssal Star-Whales drifted on the solar wind.
Measuring forty miles in length, the great astral beasts acted like tranquil harbor patrol vessels, their massive fins casting gentle shadows across the alien hulls.
As they swam, they hummed their low-frequency twenty-two hertz lullabies.
The soothing sound passed effortlessly through hull plating, adamantine armor, and spiritual wards, washing over the terrified, exhausted refugees.
Across thousands of vessels, battle-hardened void captains dropped their weapons and wept with relief as centuries of accumulated karmic trauma and cosmic terror simply melted away into peaceful relaxation.
Within less than fifteen minutes, the chaotic, panicked refugee armada of the dying cosmos achieved total, miraculous discipline.
Three thousand gargantuan star-vessels shut down their plasma reactors.
Warp-drives were put into deep sleep; battle formations melted away into an orderly, single-file ring circling behind the 108 dreadnought moonlets.
The silence in the vacuum was so absolute that not even a stray radio frequency leaked into the surrounding space.
Grand Marshal Vane-Talon stood upon the observation deck of the primary dreadnought moonlet, watching the impossible spectacle unfold through his tactical scope.
His second-in-command, Captain Gerald, was trembling so violently he could hardly keep his ledger straight.
"Marshal..." Gerald croaked. "Those are the Outer Realm Sovereigns. That is the Nine-Star Emperor, the Crystal Dragon God, and the Matriarch of the Eternal Lotus! Each of them possesses the strength to obliterate an entire star system with a sneeze!"
"And look at them now," Vane-Talon replied softly, a faint, proud smirk tugging at his scarred lips. "They are holding wooden deli counter tickets with both hands, terrified that if they shift their ships by an inch, they will lose their turn."
"The Sovereign's power..." Gerald whispered.
"The Sovereign does not conquer with blades, Gerald," Vane-Talon said, his eyes filled with profound reverence. "He conquers with order. He conquers with peace. When the universe collapses into madness, the only law that matters is who possesses the right to wait in his presence."
Up on the geostationary porch, Felix adjusted his wicker recliner, nodding in mild approval as he looked through his small brass spyglass.
The clutter in his flight corridor had cleared completely.
The alien ships were lined up in a neat, symmetrical circle, floating like parked cars outside a suburban grocery store on a Sunday morning.
"See?" Felix said to Barnaby, setting the spyglass back on the cedar table. "A simple ticketing system works wonders on NPC pathfinding. Give them a clear queue objective and they immediately stop clipping through each other."
He reached down into his snack bowl, finding only a few stray crumbs of sesame cracker.
"Well," Felix said, stretching his shoulders until his spine popped with a satisfying click. "Since they’re being so polite and following the lobby rules, I suppose I can check out whatever pre-patch event quest they brought."
He tapped the intercom switch on the brass delivery tube.
"Lyra, when you send up the afternoon tea, add a plate of those steamed pumpkin buns. We might have visitors dropping by the porch, and it's bad manners not to have snacks on the counter."
Down on Solitude Peak, Lyra’s eyes went wide as saucers.
*Visitors on the porch!*
The Sovereign was preparing to grant an imperial audience to the surviving gods of the dying universe!
"It shall be done at once, Senior Brother!" she shouted back into the tube, her voice ringing with joyous fervor. "The Heavenly Buns of Boundless Grace shall be steamed with solar fire!"
Felix pulled his ear away from the receiver, grimacing slightly.
"Seriously," he grumbled, shaking his head. "Tomorrow, I am definitely installing that volume dampener."
