Chapter 187: The Abyssal Silk Kimono

The gentle afternoon breeze rippled through the cedar eaves of Solitude Spire, carrying the soft, cooling scent of rain mist and pine sap.

Down by the rain barrel, the three juvenile Nether-Medusae drifted in lazy, synchronized loops.

Every time their translucent violet bells pulsed, thin, shimmering filaments of gossamer fiber detached from their trailing tentacles, floating toward the water's surface like spun moonlight.

Lyra Ashford stood beside the barrel, holding a clean bamboo skewer.

With delicate, trembling precision, she touched the wooden tip to one of the floating violet threads, lifting it from the water.

The filament did not snap.

It stretched with impossible elasticity, reflecting iridescent rainbow hues in the sunlight while remaining completely weightless in the air.

Lyra’s breath caught in her throat.

She brought her spiritual sense close to the fiber, only to feel an absolute, impenetrable boundary of pure dimensional stillness.

"Abyssal Void-Silk..." Lyra whispered, her eyes wide with shock. "The mythic silk of the First Era! The imperial histories claim that three inches of this fiber were used to embroider the ceremonial battle standards of the Sovereign God-Kings!"

It was a substance that existed on the threshold between matter and spirit.

It was completely impervious to psychic contamination, immune to physical blade-shears, and possessed zero thermal conductivity.

An armor woven from such material could allow a mortal to walk through the crushing pressure of a black hole without tearing a single seam.

And here, in an ordinary rainwater barrel...

The three domesticated void jellyfish were shedding enough void-silk every hour to weave an entire royal wardrobe.

Up on the cedar porch, Felix Vance emerged from the tool closet, carrying an old, dusty wooden contraption under his arm.

It was a compact hand-loom—a simple contraption of oak slats, wooden bobbins, and a hand-turned crank left behind by Grandmaster Vivienne three years ago.

Felix set the loom down on the low cedar table, right next to his chipped porcelain mug.

Under the table’s front left leg, the Sovereign Heart Seal held the frame as steady as bedrock.

Felix pulled his wicker chair closer, cracking his knuckles with a quiet *pop*.

"Summer heat is getting ridiculous," Felix muttered, fanning his gray linen tunic with his hand. "This hemp fabric doesn't breathe at all. Every time I take a nap on my side, the seams dig into my ribs and I wake up covered in sweat."

He leaned over the porch railing, looking down at Lyra by the rain barrel.

"Hey, Lyra," Felix called out. "Are you done playing with the water bugs? Bring me that skewer of string."

Lyra snapped to attention, holding the bamboo skewer with both hands like a sacred imperial relic.

"Yes, Eldest Senior Brother!" she cried out, carefully ascending the porch steps in soft, reverent strides. "This disciple has harvested the sacred celestial fiber! Shall I place it in the divine alchemical crucible for ninety-nine days of spirit refinement?!"

Felix blinked at her, shaking his head.

"Ninety-nine days? Kid, I want to take a nap at three o'clock. I'm not waiting three months to weave a bath towel."

He took the bamboo skewer from her hands.

He used his thumb to catch the loose end of the violet filament, threading it through the oak guide eye of the hand-loom.

He tapped the screen of his AetherDeck, which sat propped against his tea mug.

Felix tapped [1. ENGAGE AUTO-SPIN].

He gave the wooden crank on the side of the loom a casual, rhythmic turn with his right hand.

*Whir-clack... whir-clack.*

The wooden bobbins spun with blurring speed.

To Felix, it was simply an automated crafting minigame on his console, running at four times speed to save player time.

Yet within his dantian, the localized gravitational resonance of his white dwarf companion core bled a faint, sub-atomic frequency into the wooden frame.

The gossamer void fibers did not merely twist together.

They aligned into a flawless, non-Euclidean weave, interlocking their quantum bonds with mathematical perfection.

A soft, shimmering violet cloth, translucent as morning mist yet dense as folded titanium, poured out from the bottom roller of the loom.

Within seven minutes, the weaving was complete.

Felix lifted the finished garment from the wooden frame, giving it a solid shake.

It was a loose, flowing summer lounging kimono, dyed a pale twilight violet with soft silver borders along the sleeves and collar.

It felt completely weightless in his hands, soft as down feathers, and delightfully cool to the touch.

Felix stripped off his rumpled, sweat-stained gray hemp tunic and pulled the violet robe over his shoulders.

He tied the wide silk sash loosely around his waist.

The moment the fabric settled against his skin, Felix let out a long, luxurious sigh.

"Oh man," Felix groaned in pure comfort. "Now that is what I call ventilation. No friction. No seam chafing. It feels like wearing an air-conditioned cloud."

He focused his gaze on his new sleeve, checking the Inspector HUD.

Felix nodded in deep satisfaction.

"Seamless underarms," Felix murmured, gently patting his ribcage. "Whoever designed this blueprint knew what they were doing. Nothing worse than a lumpy seam poking your armpit while you're trying to count sheep."

Across the table, Lyra Ashford was trembling so violently that her teeth were clicking together.

Her lilac eyes stared at the shimmering violet robe draped over Senior Brother's shoulders.

She had read the imperial legends of the *Robes of the Nine Heavens*.

Artifacts that required the sacrifice of eighty thousand grandmaster weavers, forged in volcanic spirit-cauldrons over centuries, capable of parting seas and turning aside divine lightning bolts.

Yet Senior Brother had sat at a wobbly wooden kitchen table.

He had turned a squeaky hand-crank for seven minutes while humming a commercial jingle.

And he had produced a primordial divine raiment of supreme cosmic defense... purely because his linen pajamas were too hot.

"Senior Brother..." Lyra choked out, her voice barely a whisper. "That robe... its spiritual barrier could withstand the collapse of a planetary core. It is the ultimate shield of the heavens!"

Felix looked at her, then looked down at his loose sleeve.

"It's just a summer bathrobe, Lyra," Felix said dryly, settling back into his deep wicker chair. "It's got good airflow. That’s all that matters. You want me to weave you one? The jellyfish shed another batch of string every two hours. I can knock out a nightgown before dinner."

Lyra’s breath seized.

Her soul felt as though it had been struck by twelve consecutive bolts of divine lightning.

'A... a nightgown of Void-Silk?!' she thought frantically, her face flushing crimson with a mixture of terror, embarrassment, and overwhelming devotion. 'He... he offers to bestow a kingdom-toppling relic upon this humble disciple as if handing out spare handkerchiefs! Such boundless, terrifying generosity!'

She fell to her knees on the porch floorboards, bowing until her forehead touched the cedar grain.

"This disciple is unworthy of such celestial grace!" Lyra cried, her voice trembling with emotion. "I shall redouble my cultivation! I shall guard your porch and chop the firewood with tenfold diligence before I dare accept the Master's divine raiment!"

Felix rubbed his temples with one thumb, letting out a weary sigh.

"I just offered you a bathrobe, kid. You don't have to write a poem about it."

Down across the valley, inside the Astral Observatory, Chancellor Valen had his face pressed against the primary crystal lens of the great telescope.

Beside him, three Grand Weavers from the Alchemical Spire were clutching their chests, gasping for air like fish out of water.

"He spun it..." a master weaver wept, tears soaking his embroidered beard. "With a mortal wooden bobbin! He aligned the cosmic metric tensor into a seamless weave! The robe radiating from his shoulders possesses zero thermal friction! He has woven the Void itself into a dressing gown!"

Valen slowly took off his spectacles, staring out the open copper dome toward the Seventh Spire.

The afternoon sun was warm.

The clouds were calm.

The black geometric rift above the ridges remained, but nobody in the academy was looking at it anymore.

All eyes were fixed on the Seventh Spire.

Where an eighteen-year-old slacker was currently curling up in his porch hammock, pulling his new violet void-silk robe tightly around his shoulders, and drifting peacefully back to sleep.

Over on the roof beam, Barnaby the Clockwork Owl puffed out his polished brass chest.

The black rubber stopper in his beak was firmly seated, and his copper tip glinted like pure gold in the afternoon sun.

*Tick... tock... click.*

The white dwarf in Felix's dantian pulsed with warm, heavy comfort.

The breeze blew softly through the pines.

And Senior Brother was officially cooler than ever.
