Clerk Tao arrived at the infirmary records desk with a revised injury sheet. He had changed the number of candidates but left Du’s dislocation under “minor fatigue.”
Wei read the line twice. “Does fatigue mean he can move his arm?”
Du tried to lift the sling. His shoulder barely moved before the pain stopped him.
“No,” Tao said. “It is the standard term.”
Luo took the page. “Change it to dislocation caused by a pressure mechanism.”
Tao lowered his voice. “That makes the examination look unsafe.”
“The candidates were injured,” Luo said. “It was unsafe at that moment. The record does not condemn the whole sect by stating a fact.”
Wei asked for every injury to include a name and location. “A later review has to match the words to a witness.”
